  1. Before I went on the gluten free diet I started shaking really bad. It had been mild off and on for years, but in the month right before I started the diet it became very pronounced. It also began to spread in that my legs began to feel very shaky as well. About 3 weeks after being gluten free it began to improve and gradually went away for the most part...
  2. My reactions are almost all neurological and it doesn't affect my digestion very much. Our family seems to be a bit unusual in that everyone that has problems w/ gluten has c. and not d. Since the reactions are neurological I can usually tell very quickly if I've had gluten. My daughter on the other hand will get horrible stomach pains hours later which...
  3. I'd love to hear more people weigh in on the Starbuck's because I reacted after having one of their holiday coffees. I think it was the Peppermint Mocha. My brother reacted after having their hot chocolate. I came home and looked all over the internet after I got sick and found that someone said the chocolate supplier for Starbucks manufactures in a facility...
  4. I could have the same genes that you do. I did not have the gene test done (wish I had), but my parents both had it done. My dad has 7,7 and my mother has 8 and 5 (0501). My brother also had it done and his were 8,7. So, I know since my dad is a double 7 at least one of my genes is a 7. What I don't know is do I have an 8 or a 5. My brother who has...
  5. My parents have been calling me the last couple days to tell me about the gluten-free meals they have had a Disneyworld and how good they are. One place brought them rolls and according to my dad they were so good they asked for the package to see if they could find them to buy. All they told me was they were Ener-g brand so I looked on the website and...
  6. I found a Snickerdoodle recipe that turned out well! The link is: https://www.celiac.com/st_prod.html?p_prodi...-02106521815.7c It says to be sure not to overbake, but everyone liked the ones that I overbaked a bit much better. I was surprised that they were actually chewy and either I'm getting used to gluten free food or these really tasted like...
  7. I may do that with some of the recipes I just can't find. I try to avoid mixes whenever I can since I can buy the flours and mix them so much cheaper myself. I have found a handful of things so far that seem to work better with a premade gluten-free flour mix though.
  8. I'm hoping to find one that gives you a nice chewy cookie. I used to use the old Betty Crocker cookie recipe (if anyone is familiar with that) so that's the type I'm looking for.
  9. I have one that I love that's not so sweet. It's a bit different in that you use a flour/milk mixture which you boil and then cool. Butter, sugar and vanilla make up the rest of the ingredients. Very rich, but it's my favorite icing. Not sure how well it would work for kids, but we've always had success with it. The original recipe calls for flour, but...
  10. I don't use the one made for working out, but I've been taking the Shaklee protein every day with no problems. They have a list of what has gluten in it and not very many of their products are on the list. The sports nutrition products would be Physique and Performance both of which are o.k. I've heard that they will be redoing the sports nutrition line...
  11. I'm sure it sounds a bit silly, but I need to know which lipsticks are gluten free. I checked out the lipstick I'm using right now (Clarins) and the ingredients list wheat. I think Clinique is o.k., but I want to be sure before I spend the $ since the better lipsticks are not cheap. It seems the ingredient lists can be under some of the more unusual names...
  12. I'm curious how many have shaking as a symptom? I accidentally had gluten this past weekend and have been shaking off and on for the last 3 days. Finally stopped this morning. It's very similar to parkinson type shaking, but the severity fluctuates and it's never severe. Both hands used to shake, but now I notice it's more often just the right side so...
  13. That sounds very similar except my edema was non-pitting. I accidentally had gluten over the weekend and my face got puffy, fingers swelled, ankles and abdomen. I am so thankful that it's not as bad as it was. I went from size 8 jeans down to 2. I'll be interested to see how many other people react this way!
  14. I actually tested for Candida a few years back and the NP that ordered it was surprised it came back negative. All of my brothers and sisters have had it however so I'm very familiar with it and was quite relieved the test showed I was fine! At this point I am suspecting other food intolerances given my reaction to crab, but I do know gluten sets off the...
  15. Curious if anyone had edema as one of their symptoms. This was what presented first and has been a large problem. The swelling is mostly abdominal and at one point I was retaining almost 30 lbs. of water. All testing for possible causes have always come back negative and after many medications we found that Strattera keeps it off the best so it appears...
