  1. I rarely visit the doctor as he tends to be clueless on my condition and I never really get a chance to talk to him. It took a few different specialists before I was properly diagnosed. Once I get my paycheck I'm going to ask him to run a few tests (if possible). I haven't officially had a biopsy done of the (small?) intestine to check for Celiac, but...
  2. Spend a little time in the sun, sunscreen free. Sunscreen blocks a large amount of vitamin D production
  3. Odd, I was just diagnosed with this in January. Unfortunately I live next to a wheat field and until I get my degree I am stuck in this predicament. Have you found anything that can lessen the symptoms?
  4. Pretty much what the title describes. I moved next to a wheat field last year. I suffer from Dermatitis herpetiformis, and while I haven't seen bumps in a while I still wonder if I can get a reaction from this. I have recently (since the move) been diagnosed with Chronic Prostatitis as well (at age 20) which anecdotal evidence suggests can be intensified...
  5. Happy birthday and may God bless you today!

  6. i've noticed the shingles rash/blisters look a lot like what happens in dermatitis herpetiformis, another disorder from eating wheat (which i have...joy). so maybe get tested for that too?
  7. Yeah shingles occurs when the immune system is being suppressed in some way. Normally when infected with the virus, your body fights it off and the virus lays dormant, while the immune system periodically prevents it from coming back. Most people that get the chicken pox never get shingles until they are elderly and their immune systems are suppressed. Unfortunately...
  8. Alright, I really didn't know where to post this, but i was doing some research in my biology class and i was thinking about genetic diseases and how celiac's have (generally) a higher level of zonulin in there systems. Through Darwin's theory of natural selection, no adverse genetic trait is ever favored unless as the side effect of another gene that is...
  9. well going to then doctor's to find out if dapsone will be okay no longer matters because im finally spot free! That's right, after a month and a week of the gluten free diet the spots are basically gone [i get one or two every now and then]. Im so relieved the spots are gone, it was getting really bad. does anyone else have success stories they'd like...
  10. Thanks for the input. As of the last post i have noticed a very very bad relapse ( within a week i had as many spots, if not more. as when i started taking the prednisone). Im going to my normal doctor this week sometime to get his input on the situation since he used to swim as well. The dermatologist i went to, although very bright, seemed to be padding...
  11. I was thinking this over recently, could iodine actually help those with dh? here's my reasoning: for the spots to form, iodine bonds to the gluten and forms the spots on your skin, a decrease in iodine means less spots. But, if we did the opposite and increased iodine in our diets we'd notice more spots. If we were to go on a gluten free diet, meaning...
  12. how many grain servings are they worth on the food pyramid? if they're so huge they should be worth more than 1 right? i was never a big grain eater but i've been trying to get all of the stuff on the pyramid as best as i can. Grains has always eluded me, id get 2 maybe three servings out of the reccomended 6-11 a day. Then again i don't eat breakfast...
  13. Alright, for about every single packaged food i've been eating i read the ingredients now, only problem is anything that doesn't specifically say "wheat" i usually consider as gluten free which is probably very very wrong. I think monosodium glutamate is a bad ingredient but that's all i really know of... can someone give an ingredients list of ingredients...
  14. Hi, im on week three of this gluten free diet thing and im wondering...what's a good substitute to white bread? so far i've tried white rice bread in the wegmans gluten free section, which tastes good but has a texture and dryness of sawdust. I just started eating glutino brand corn bread which is slightly better but is also pretty dry. Now im a sandwhich...
  15. yes i have it on this place too...i know kinda weird, haha. but i guess this is common for dh. does anyone get the rash in really strange places? i've gotten it on my ears (liken the edge of the cartiledge], eyebrows, scalp, sometimes the tops of my toes, and my nose. it's all dh but i think it's weird it shows up in these places...
  16. My Dermatologist told me to consult a nutritionist about the gluten free diet as there are a lot of products that contain gluten that you would never think of.You may not be completely gluten free. I've been somewhat on a gluten "reduced" diet for about a month now and i don't get any relief from these bumps. As with eliminating iodine from your diet, it...
  17. This is very true, i was diagnosed with the Dermatitis herpetimorfis(i spell it differently every time) and no-one in my immediate family has it, or any wheat allergies. The only person in my family with wheat allergies is my aunt, of which is a Major Hypochondriac, so it's probably "self diagnosed". on another note, where do you get tested for the actual...
  18. Im from New York, Lake ontario(ish) area... i thought i was the only 17 year old with dh. also would that make me a celiac? or just a leper? haha
  19. Hi, to start this off first i'll give a little information about myself since im new to these forums... Im a 17 year old, male, actively engaged in varsity swimming, muscular build, who had just been diagnosed with dermatitis herpetiformis two weeks ago. I had first noticed symptoms in october of this year, so from what ive been reading the doctors caught...
