  1. kare101- I just re read my reply to your post, and I must apologize. I really went after you didn't I ? For that I'm sorry. There is nothing easy about this staying gluten-free thing. I was "felony stupid" when I stopped the gluten-free diet. To show how hard staying gluten-free is, when I gave up I was not only not feeling well but I got a case Celiac Dermatitis so bad on my butt I couldn't sit. Went to the doctor to have it looked at and treated and lied my brains out telling him I was doing great with the diet. To this day I still need to use a steroid cream to keep it under control. There are so many things that you can go through and things that can happen. It's not worth back sliding even once. Damn it's hard enough for us to just find something that isn't cross contaminated. Anyway, sorry for coming down so hard on you. You WILL be fine and you will make it.Good Luck and stay Tuff.My Best, Jess

  4. Here is something to consider. IT WILL KILL YOU! I was gluten-free for almost 3 years. It was a struggle and it wasn't easy. I had had enough. I hauled my butt to Mc Donald's, ordered a quarter pounder and never looked back. It made me feel like crap but I stayed with it and got to the point where it didn't bother me. I went for another year and a half eating anything I wanted. About 4 months ago I started getting stomach cramps but was able to blow it off for a few weeks. I ended up on the floor of a pizza place with such bad cramps I was out of my mind with the pain. I was taken to the hospital, and thank God, just in time. My intestine perforated and blew out. They took out 2 feet of destroyed intestine. I am now the proud owner of a Colostomy. If you don't know what that is, look it up. Long story short, I poop in a bag now that is attached to my stomach. Again only by the grace of God mine can be reversed and I can be put back together in a few more months.I haven't posted on this forum in a long time but your post got to me. If you were told you need to go gluten-free, you better do it. If a bowl of cereal is worth having, keep eating it. You will enjoy the bag on your side when it gets bad enough. But what the heck, it may take years.Jess
  5. I just can't seem to find yes or no. I eat bags full of Lays BBQ flavor chips. I can't tell one way or the other from the Lays site if they have gluten in them. Most all the other flavors say they don't but nothing clear at least to me on the BBQ flavor. Can you help me out please? Thanks
  6. Hello all. I was diagnosed 5 years ago with celiac disease. I went on a gluten-free diet the same day. Stayed true to the diet for 2 years but started loosing weight at a fast rate. I am male, 6' and in the beginning weighed around 180. During the 2 years I stayed gluten-free I had lost 30 lbs. and nothing I could do would stop the loss. I had every test and treatment known to man I think, and other than having celiac disease everything was fine. To make a long story short I had had enough of the gluten-free diet crap and fell right off the wagon. I eat anything and a ton of it. Had several big meals a day and snacked in between. I still lost weight but evened out for a long time at about 145, but with the gluten back in my diet I felt like crap. Now it gets good. I am down to 105 now and still not gluten-free. One more problem. My intestine perforated this past October and now am wearing an Colostomy bag. It can be reversed thankfully but not for 6 more months. I am trying to get back on a gluten-free diet but am having a very hard time doing it. I guess the moral of this story is, no matter what, don't give up your diet because it can and will get worse. We still don't know why I am loosing weight. Anyway that's my story. Jess
  7. Hi all. I hope this is the place to ask this question. If not I'm sure someone will set me straight. I have a friend that told me about a powder from China that one of her employees is useing that has all but cleared up her dermatitis. It is called "Joy" I have searched the entire internet it seems and find nothing. Has anyone run across such a powder by this name? My understanding is you mix it with water, milk or any other drink. Thanks for any leads on this that you may have. BT
  8. I have my thyroid checked every 6 months and have been on Synthroid for 15 years now to keep it in balance. Bandaids. About one year into being gluten-free and feeling pretty good, I had an ekg to check on my heart. Before I got out of the Dr's office I was sick as a dog. After some major searching I found a common gluten additave in all tape. The hospital knows about it because you can request the gluten-free patches and they will use them.
  9. Oh yes, I'm gluten-free. Down to the point that the bandages, tape on bandaids, heart monitor patches even tooth picks I special order, the ones that are gluten free. I will bet most of you didn't know that the tape on a simple bandaid had gluten in it. I can take something like a tooth pick and if it has a gluten base it makes me sick.
  10. Man I wish I had all your weight gain problems, and you had mine. I have been gluten-free now for about 3 years. The way I found out I had c/d was I had gone from 180 lbs to 140 lbs in just a few months. There was a ton of tests and I still kept losing weight. Finally my family doctor ran out of things to test me for. Except for one thing was happening that he couldn't figure out. That was this nasty rash that had found a home on my back side. He said he had seen it in a book somewhere, started the search and found it. That's when I was sent in for the you know what test. I'm 60 years old, have been blown up twice in Nam while in the Marine Corps, have had 4 heart attacks, and just a year ago went threw 15 1/2 hours of surgery getting shinny new rods in my back from my a@# to my neck. After all this trivial stuff being said, it leads up to this. This Celiac Disease is kicking my butt. I am now down to an average 125 lbs. I take in over 4000 per day, eat breakfast, lunch and most nights 2 and sometimes 3 suppers. On a good day I will shoot all the way up to 130 and weigh in that same night and be back down to 125 lbs. I am healthy and very active even with the nifty new hardware in my back. However, without any meat on my bones (literally) you can feel the rods and screw heads in my back and that's a big oweeee. I just wanted to jump in here and ask if by chance anyone else here has had this weight loss problem? My doctors won't let me touch any kind of steroid, for obvious reasons. I have always been able to take care of my own problems but this one seems to have me. It is hard for an ornery old coot like myself to ask for help in a setting like this, but that's what I'm doing here. If there are any ideas floating around here, PLEASE pass them on to me. Not the one I hear all the time, "well you can have my extra 50 lbs". This is just as real, and as big of a problem for me as it is for the folks that have tried everything to lose weight.   12. Wow, thank you all for the fast response. I take alot of meds but I saw a poster here in the sleep forum that said Ambian sleeping meds had gluten in it. Then another poster stated that it did not. Looks like the only way to be sure is to check it out on your own. I think however if you find something it should be posted some where on this site.
