That was the suggestion from my GI doc but I never book the medicine and maintained a strict gluten free diet. Actually, Italy is much more sensitive to gluten free diets than the US, I found.

I have not tried that. But my gastroenterologist gave me a prescription when I was traveling to Italy for Prednisone prescribed as 10mg, 1-2 tablets daily in the am before eating to counteract any symptoms so as to not hinder my diet while enjoying Italian food. I never actually took the medicine but have used it if I inadvertently ate the wrong thing at...
