ARCHIVED Childhood Apraxia Of Speech -- Gluten Or Possibly Casein Connectiton?
New Mama replied to New Mama's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thank you for sharing your story. It's tough when kids are older and just don't believe that food can really have such a big effect on you. My nephew is nineteen, has ADD and psoriasis and numerous other issues and I really think his problems are dietary in nature -- or at least that they could be much relieved by a change in diet. But he scoffs at his mother... -
ARCHIVED Childhood Apraxia Of Speech -- Gluten Or Possibly Casein Connectiton?
New Mama posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Some friends whose son turned two a few months ago isn't really talking much. They took him in to be evaluated and they think he has Childhood Apraxia of Speech. I'm wondering if there isn't a connection to gluten (of course, I think EVERY disorder has a connection to gluten, lol). He is very small for his age, had weird rashy stuff on his face/scalp for... -
ARCHIVED Scary Low Blood Sugar Episode Last Night
New Mama replied to sneezydiva's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The two times I've cut out carbs I felt exactly this same way the following morning. My husband had to bring me food before I could even get out of bed. The whole next day I felt weak and my stomach hurt a bit. I'd say it's cutting out the carbs and not just the gluten. HTH! -
ARCHIVED Question About Vaccinations
New Mama replied to gfgypsyqueen's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Lolabell, I am so sorry about your son. Just today a friend whose family was over last weekend called to tell us that they think their younger daughter (who had not yet received the MMR) has the measles. We don't vax, as I mentioned, and I'm not super worried about it because I'd rather my son get it now than when he's a teen or an adult. If he starts... -
ARCHIVED Question About Vaccinations
New Mama replied to gfgypsyqueen's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I have not had my son (almost two) immunized at all and I don't plan to. There are lots of other parents out there like me, too. I've heard too many horror stories and am not convinced that the pharmaceutical companies are acting in our children's best interests. In fact, I'm pretty sure they're not. -

No, I haven't. But I have been feeling this way for a long time, in winter (in Wisconsin) too. -
ARCHIVED Lightheadedness & Weakness
New Mama replied to New Mama's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I did replace the colander. I recently had some bloodwork done to check for anemia and my thyroid, among other things. It wasn't a "fasting" test, though. Is that more accurate? I'm actually currently working on the hypothesis that it's yeast overgrowth and am doing Bee's Candida Diet. If that doesn't seem to be working I'll go back to my doctor... -
ARCHIVED How Reliable Are The Enterolabs?
New Mama replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
We used EnteroLabs for my son, who is almost two. He had bumps on his cheeks and upper arms as well as red scaly patches all over his body. EL said he was gluten- and casein intolerant. We took him off dairy first and the red patches mostly cleared up. Then we took him off gluten and the bumps on his cheeks went away; the bumps on his arms are less than they... -

ARCHIVED Lightheadedness & Weakness
New Mama posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I haven't been diagnosed as GI/CI, but my son was (through EnteroLab), and since he's still nursing I thought I'd better go gluten-free/CF along with him. I do suspect I am GI as well. Some of my "symptoms" were light-headness and weakness. After going gluten-free a few months ago I immediately felt better, but now I'm feeling that way again. It's worse... -
ARCHIVED What Do We Do Before Starting Foods?
New Mama replied to iluvbread's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My son was recently diagnosed as gluten intolerant through EnteroLab -- he's now 22 months. I wish I had figured it out sooner. He was exclusively breastfed until nine months and his first few months were pretty rough. I tried eliminating foods (and since I was eating a vegan diet at the time, this was NOT FUN -- I was so hungry and skinny) but although I... -
ARCHIVED Casein And Soy Testing, How Reliable
New Mama replied to janelyb's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Well, we did the package test for my son through EnteroLab because I wanted to be thorough, and he came back as sensitive to casein. We already knew this, though, both because an IgG test had told us and because he'd had red ezcema-like patches all over his body that went away when we went dairy-free. I don't know about the soy, but I'm considering having... -

ARCHIVED Getting Pregnant But Not On The Diet
New Mama replied to KatieB's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I haven't been tested, but I believe I am gluten intolerant. My 22-month old son was tested though, and it came out positive. I had trouble getting pregnant (I didn't ovulate on my own) and we did in vitro -- I found out later that not getting a period was a major symptom of celiac disease/gluten intolerance. I went gluten free and took major supplements... -
ARCHIVED Charcoal Made With Wheat/ Cooking On An Outdoor Grill.
New Mama replied to rlemmon's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Okay...what else has gluten in it, that I'd never expect? Sheesh. I have not been diagnosed with celiac/GI, but my son was recently, and since he's still nursing I went gluten-free/CF too. And I do think I'm GI, since I've had all kinds of weird symptoms throughout the years (ramping up since my son was born almost two years ago). So...tonight DH cooked... -
ARCHIVED Bali Spice Sweet Soy Sauce?
New Mama posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Is this gluten-free? The ingredients are: Soybeans, coconut sugar, sea salt, water, spices, and yeast extract. I can't find any info online, and their contact info is a long-distance number. TIA! -
ARCHIVED Do I Really Need Separate Cutting Boards & Cooking Utensils?
New Mama posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I'm thinking I should get rid of my old wooden cutting board with the splits running through it, and also buy new wooden spoons (and only use them for gluten-free -- no more wheat noodles or other things we'd need to stir). I'm also getting a separate toaster. But if I buy a new hard plastic cutting board, our metal and plastic colanders are scrubbed out... -
ARCHIVED Natural/organic Body Care Products?
New Mama posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I was loving Avalon Organics, but they will not confirm gluten content, and they appear to use oats in someof their products. I need to find hand/body lotion, shampoo and conditioner that is not full of nasty chemicals and is gluten-free, but I'm a bit overwhelmed. Is there a list somewhere or another thread on this subject that I'm missing? Also... -
ARCHIVED Enterolab Test Results...what Do They Mean?
New Mama replied to New Mama's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I took both my son and myself off gluten and dairy about four weeks ago. In that time my light-headedness has gone away and I don't feel so bloated anymore. I used to CRAVE bready things and stuff myself and then feel bloated and FULL afterward -- no more. My stomach seems flatter and I've dropped a few pounds without trying. My tongue has also lost its... -
ARCHIVED Enterolab Test Results...what Do They Mean?
New Mama replied to New Mama's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I hit "reply" on my e-mail and the fecal fat score (as well as the ranges for "normal" for everything popped up). I guess they got cut off somehow when I viewed it as a normal e-mail. Weird. Anyway, the fecal fat score said <300, which is also the normal range. But still, if anyone else would care to comment, I'd be interested in what you have to... -

ARCHIVED Enterolab Test Results...what Do They Mean?
New Mama posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My 21-month old son wasn't really exhibiting any symptoms, but he showed up as sensitive to wheat and milk on a IgG test at the naturopath's office. Also, there are confirmed celiacs on both sides of the family and I'm convinced it runs rampant in my family, at least. And I did not have a period or ovulate at all from the age of about 12 on (we did IVF to... -
I came across this thread doing a search for "breath" because my siser, who I believe has celiac and is currently going gluten-free, has the most awful breath. It smells "infected" -- that's the only word I can think of to describe it. If she's sitting next to me, or even across the table from me, talking, I can barely stand it. I've never mentioned it to...
