  1. Happy birthday and may God bless you today!

  2. Just looking at your posting. I too have pain in stomach and back constantly and bloating, celiac symptoms i'm sure, but always seem like something worse. I also had no signs of anything on ultrasound. yrs Sue

  3. Have a good b-day!

  4. I am also vegetarian, and just diagnosed with celiac. It has been suggested that I eliminate dairy and soy as well for a time, but it does really narrow my choices ... Do any of you have suggestions for vitamins and suplements that would be especially good for a vegetarian/celiac? Also, do you know if we can have hemp hearts? Because that would be a good protein replacement for the soy and tofu I usually have. I'm just worried I am not going to get everything I need! Also, is there something I can take to speed the healing process up? My boyfriend sister (who has had celiac for several years) suggested just drinking lots of water, but I wonder if there is anything else that would help de-toxify me.
  5. Do you find out from a biopsy all these things? Because I only got a blood test for the antibody, I guess, and because I was so high the celiac association said a biopsy wasn't necessary. And they said it wouldn't help anyway because i've been gluten-free for a month. But I would like to know more, like if I have any other sensitivies. Any suggestions?
  6. Thanks, Ursa, that's good to know! I've been worried because it feels something is wrong with my kidneys, but, as I said, all my results were negative. How long did it take for you to have that squeezing feeling go away? The abdomen pain has subsided a lot since being gluten-free for a month, but that back pain (although it's not the actual muscle) continues. That's good to know about certain foods - is that the same with drinks as well? I drank some rum the other night (first time I have had alcohol since I was diagnosed) and the pain was excrutiating! I don't know if it was from that, or just the fact that it was one of the first nights in a month I went out, and was on my feet a lot.
  7. That is interesting about the quitting smoking link. I would love to read more on that if you happen to remember where you saw those articles. I just got diagnosed and really want to quit smoking, but I'm not sure if I should wait a bit or not - I have enough to stress about right now without taking away my normal stress-reliever! But I also want to do everything I can so I can heal - especially since sometimes my pain is worse when I smoke. Are there any former smokers out there who know how quitting affected celiac symptoms? Or current who feel the link between smoking and symptoms?
  8. Hey there- I just got diagnosed with celiac about a month ago, and I can definitely tell you that for years I felt completely crazy. I went to numerous doctors and hospitals and they kept telling me all my symptoms were from stress - basically, in effect, that it was all in my head. I don't know about all the symptoms you described, as a lot of them are different from my own experience, and I'm no doctor. But if celiac symptoms are ringing a bell with you, definitely get tested! Either way, there's something going on in your body, so don't let anyone make you feel crazy! I would suggest that you make sure you describe all your symptoms to your doctor - I made the mistake of only mentioning a few symptoms, because I was starting to feel like a hypochondriac since I had so many and they seemed so random. But now they make sense!
  9. Hi- Does anybody know any good restaurants in Vancouver/Langley/Surrey? I just got diagnosed and have no idea of any, except for Swiss Chalet who provides allergy pamphlets listing everything that's safe. Also, anything in Ottawa? I'm staying here for awhile so it would be nice to find some here too.
  10. I've been told that I need to be careful and buy organic spices because regular ones may use flour as filler. There are few stir-fry sauces I used to buy before I got diagnosed that I love - korma, in particular. It looks gluten-free, except I don't know if the spices they use are. Should I avoid it?
  11. hi- i just diagnosed a month ago, and have been doing my best to be gluten-free since then. i was wondering, though, because i have had bad pain in my lower back - it feels like my kidneys are being squeezed really hard. it's very on and off. also i get sharp pains in my abdomen. has anyone else had that? is it a process of healing, maybe? i went to the emergency and they did an ultrasound, x-rays, pelvic exam, urine samples, and all the results were negative. i wasn't sure if these were all symptoms of celiac or not. any help would be great!!
  12. hey! i'm really new to this (i just got diagnosed a month ago) so this is all really helpful. i was wondering if anybody knew if hair dye is safe. i know to be wary of the conditioner that goes with it, but i wasn't sure about the dye itself. also, do we need to be careful of deodorants? thanks!
