  1. The rice crunch ums are not sweet! Yay! They are pretty bland, though, but a nice change from the sweet cereals. Has anybody tried cream of rice (like cream of wheat, only rice)?
  2. I got a list from Heinz and they said that their Delimex chicken taquitos are gluten free. I am sort of shocked that there is actually a frozen food that I can feed my kids... not to feed them all the time or anything, but for a quick supper when I don't feel like cooking. I was reading the label and saw Textured Vegetable Protein (soy)... I thought TVP...
  3. Kel, I have the same problem w/ cereals. The gluten-free ones are just too sweet. I have one called Cranberry Sunshine by Kashi and it is soooo sweet. I just bought some of Health Valley's rice crunch ums (supposed to be like chex) and haven't tried them yet, but I will let you know how sweet it is. Mel
  4. Do you have Trader Joe's near you? I am pretty sure there is one in West Field (I live in PA and a good friend drives there once a month to get their gluten free things). THey have some awesome gluten-free things that are REALLY well priced. Their gluten-free frozen waffles taste exactly like Eggo's and are only like $2 a box. When/if you go, ask for...
  5. Michelle, We ran out of OJ yesterday, so she didn't have her normal morning glass.. well this morning my husband said her poop was formed! (of course I missed it, because he was letting me sleep in).. I am going to keep the OJ outof her diet for a while and see if that helps. I'm normally not a big fan of fruit juice, and always water it down, etc....
  6. I forgot to ask.. how long do breads, hamburger buns, etc. stay fresh? Can they be frozen?
  7. I want to order: 1) Tinkiyada pasta.. in bulk preferably. Does anybody order this online? 2) Baking flours, etc.. I want to try to make my own breads, waffles, pizza crusts, etc. Where do you order your flours? 3) I want to order some already made bread (for sandwiches) and especially hamburger buns, as we are about to travel these would be really...
  8. How will your blood tests show if you are just gluten sensitive, or actually have celiac?
  9. Thanks for the replies.. I'm glad to hear that other kids have taken a while longer to recover. I have been very very *very* careful about cross-contamination. Her vitamins say "gluten free" on the bottle, so I'm fairly certain they are safe. I am going to work on feeding her more rice and waffles and bananas and applesauce.. I have decided to cut out...
  10. My 2 yr old dd has been gluten-free for 9 days now and is still having the same ole diarrhea. I am certain she hasn't gotten anything with gluten with it. It is just discouraging, with the diet being so difficult (we are doing no dairy as well) and still not seeing improvement. On top of that, she is not eating as much as she used to. She even started...
  11. That is very interesting.. I asked once before it anybody knew what other reasons there could be for an elevated IgG and IgA.. nobody could answer me. This is very frustrating b/c my 2 yr old did not have the other tests you are talking about, and everyone is telling me that she has Celiac simply on the two antigliadin antibodies being high. She has...
  12. Thanks Ruth! Anybody? Help! I want to get the right tests done!
  13. 1)My 2 yr old just had a positive IgA and IgG, and I want the whole family to go gluten-free.. but first I want to test my other kids to see if they are reacting to gluten. We are going to the dr tomorrow for me to get the other kids tested, and I'm not sure if they should just have the anti-gliadin tests or other tests too. 2)My 2 yr old only had the...
  14. Yes, it is possible to have Celiac and have no Gi symptoms and no skin problems. I would definitely insist on blood tests. I personally do not think you "need" to have a biopsy to make a diagnosis. The procedure is not without risk, and false-negatives are really common. I would say have the blood work up and if any of that is positive, do the gluten...
  15. Hello, Some of you may remember, that my 2 yr old dd was just confirmed via blood tests that she probably has Celiac. I am now wondering about my other kids. One of my children I suspect might have it, although he does not have any GI symptoms. The blood tests that suggested Celiac in my dd was Anti-gliadin IgA and IgG. In the meantime, I am putting...
  16. Well, one thing that comes my mind is that we fast from meat and animal products (eggs, dairy, etc.) for religious reasons during lent and before christmas. We always have diarrhea for a day or two after breaking the fast. I think it's just our bodies adjusting to food that it has not had a long time. Normally we do not react to eating meat or animal...
  17. Thanks for the replies, I decided to go ahead and go forward with the gluten-free diet for our family. I have decided that I do not want to do the biopsy. I am a little nervous about the changes, but at the same time relieved that I have some answers to her problems! I went to the store last night, that has a large health food section. I can't...
  18. I posted this in children's forum but nobody has responded. basically my 2 yr old dd has had loose frequent bowels since january. my dr did some tests, and anti-gliadin IgA was 68 (above 30 is abnormal) and IgG was 67 (above 30 is abnormal). The other tests my pediatrician did were anti extractable nuclear antigen RNP, which was negative, anti-smith anitbodies...
  19. ARGH! Anybody? I am looking on the internet and those last 3 tests don't look like they're specifically for celiac at all. I am pullling up other auto-immune disorders. I am very confused as to why my dr ordered these other tests. I don't know what to do. What do I make of the positive IgA and IgG? Thanks again, Mel
  20. Some of you may remember me posting about my 2 yr old dd Zoe.. Her test results were: IGA-68 (normal is less than 30) IGG-67 (normal i sless than 30) There were three other tests my dr did and they were all negative, and he told them to me over the phone and I may be spelling the wrong. Anti extractable nuclear antigen RNP antibiodies-- negative...
  21. Sorry.. I didnt mean that I wanted to talk to him right then.. I just wanted him to get the message that I wanted to speak to him, and at the end of the day or the next morning would be fine. I told the nurse that. Anyway, it looks like my call paid off.. the dr ordered the blood tests that I wanted. I will have her blood drawn tomorrow. Thanks for...
  22. I am so mad right now I could scream!! My dr's office must think I am a nut. I left a message this morning saying that I needed to speak with Dr. Davis etc. etc.... now a nurse just called being really smart, thinking I'm just some crazy parent that is insisting on talking to the dr. Well I told her I have seen Dr Davis several times over this matter,...
  23. Thanks for all of your replies. I am so hesistant to just try the gluten-free diet, b/c I am afraid it may just be food allergies. (or maybe a mixture of both.) I have thought of doing an elimination diet, which is just turkey, pears, rice, squash.. I couldn't make her do that diet for weeks! She would wilt away! Does anybody have any thoughts on whether...
  24. I have considered trying the gluten-free diet, but somewhere I have read it can take MONTHS to see improvement.. I cannot see just "trying" it for months when it could just be something else. Does that makes sense? I wish we could just go to another dr out of pocket, but right now we are in a strange financial state and don't have extra money to spend...
  25. Hi everybody.. Not sure if this is where we belong, but after doing alot of reading I think my 2 yr old dd Zoe may have Celiac, and I suspect my 6 yr old son does too. (my 3 yr old dd seems fine, but who knows). This all started back in January. My 2 yr old mainly nursed for a long time, eating some solids but not much. I became pregnant in November...
