  1. Maltomeal'ss cocoa dynobites, fruity dynobites, and corn bursts (like pops) are gluten-free. You can usually find those in regular grocery stores in bags. Mel
  2. Karen, Glad to hear it went okay. Do you have the results of the biopsy yet? Mel
  3. Just curious, where is the store in LA? I am visiting family in Mississippi right now and might drive down there if it's not too far. Mel
  4. I don't see anything wrong with not doing the endoscopy/biopsy if you're not comfortable with it. Although small, the procedure is not without risk. Also, I have heard too many stories of people who had a negative biopsy and told they don't have celiac or gluten intolerance, and then tried the diet anyway and had total resolution of symptoms. We decided...
  5. Another good place with a gluten free list is delphi's celiac forum: Open Original Shared Link Mel
  6. I don't think there is anything wrong with not doing a biopsy. He is obviously better gluten free-- go with your instincts. And a biopsy is not without risks; although small, it's not completely safe. You could always have stool testing at Enterolab, which doesn't require a dr's prescription. I would email Dr. Fine at enterolab's website and ask if...
  7. Hello I know we have PM'd, but just wanted to tell say my 2 yr old's symptoms sound exactly like yours. She had lots of mucus in her stools, and also complained about her tummy hurting before a bowel movement sometimes. She is also very pale and has dark circles under her eyes. She is a blond hair blue eyed gal anyway, so it might be more noticable...
  8. Once again, there is plenty of research that disputes what Richard says. I say do your own research and educute before you vaccinate, especially if you or your child suffer from an autoimmune disease like Celiac. (BTW, they stopped mass vaccination of smallpox because of how dangerous the vaccine is. Many people have been vaccine damaged, so I say what...
  9. It could still be Celiac. I don't know much about how accurate the testing is before age 2. If *you* noticed an improvement upon the cessation of eating gluten, then I would stick with your instincts. My 2 yr old was just diagnosed, and thinking back, she has had symptoms of Celiac for a long time. I think the best thing to do is keep breastfeeding...
  10. Hi, Open Original Shared Link is the bakery in Philadelphia. I have never been there. I would like to hear of more gluten free restaurants or places with gluten free stuff. I live near Scranton. Mel
  11. Baby-jarro dophilus is formulated especially for children under 2. You can also order it online if you can't find it locally. ITA about the link between Celiac and vaccinations. Any kind of stress to the body can trigger Celiac, and babies are routinely given several vaccines at once. Many children with autism are on a gluten free, casein free diet...
  12. Argh! I hate it when drs don't even want to think it's a possibility. Especially with a family history. I practically had to demand a blood test in my 2 yr old. I would demand a blood test Celiac panel right away. Also you mentioned ear infection-- did she have antibiotics? That can throw your GI flora out of whack. I would go to the health food store...
  13. What else is gluten-free at Waffle House? I wonder if the hashbrowns and bacon are safe.
  14. My 2 yr old dd with Celiac was breastfed until just recently, only because I am 27 weeks pregnant and it is uncomfortable. She never received any formula. We introduced solids around 6-7 months but she never ate MUCH until 1 1/2 or so (just preferred to nurse). I have two other kids, the first was mostly bottlefed b/c of my ignorance and my 2nd was breastfed...
  15. Brooke, Let us know how the biopsy goes. Mel
  16. Hey, I thought of you when I got Clan Thompson's newsletter. There is a new book coming out: "
  17. I posted a similar question the in the kids forum.. wondering when I should reintroduce dairy to my 2 yr old. She has been gluten-free/CF for about 3 weeks now and just started having normal bowel movements again last week. I don't necessarily want to give her cows milk to drink, but would like to have pizza and mexican food again! mel
  18. Well, if she hasn't had the blood work done for Celiac yet, I wouldn't despair just yet. Food allergies can cause diarrhea as well. She could have celiac, yes, but first I would try doing a very very careful elimination diet of all of the foods you said that bother her (dairy, eggs, peanuts, and soy). Many people that cannot tolerate or are allergic...
  19. Hi there, I am sort of in the same boat as you! My 2 yr old dd has had loose frequent stools since January. I have seen lots of mucus in her stools too, but no blood (and from what I have read, it is not uncommon to have a little blood in stools here and there). My regular pediatrician ran some basic tests, and finally I asked him to check the anti...
  20. My 2 yr old has been gluten-free and dairy free for a couple of weeks, and is finally having more "normal" poops. I know it is way too soon to reintroduce dairy into her diet... but how long should I wait? I am thinking that when I do reintroduce it, I will do it slowly, like starting with butter maybe, and then work up to cheese and see how much, if any...
  21. Hey Dorothy, I don't know if your insurance will cover Enterolab. I would go look at their website, enterolab.com. Email me if you have any more questions, and I'll see if I can help. Mel
  22. Dorothy, The only reason I would want to get some diagnostics done-- is because Celiac is a serious disease, meaning that you must adhere to the diet your ENTIRE life. If your son's problem were just a wheat ALLERGY, and it could be, then it is likely he will outgrow the problem. The problem you would face then is, if he truly has Celiac, when he is...
  23. Thanks Gillian, but we have decided not to do the biopsy. When you say positive blood work, I'm not sure if my other kids' blood work would be considered positive for Celiac. That's what I'm trying to figure out! I'm leaning more and more towards Enterolab, but I just don't know which tests to get. I would love to get all of the tests done, but $...
  24. Mariann, Thank you SO much. Which tests did you have done at Enterolab? I just can't afford to have all of those tests done. How will the tests show if they have celiac, or just non-celiac gluten intolerance? Also, I have been feeding them a gluten-free diet because it is just too risky IMO to have gluten in the house with my 2 yr old recovering...
  25. My 2 yr old was positive for IgA and IgG antigliadin antibodies..we decided to have my other two kids (ages 3 and 6) tested. My 6 yr old has some symptoms but my 3 yr old seems fine. Anyway my 6 yr old's IgG was 90 but IgA was negative, and my 3 yr old's IgG was 64 and IgA negative. My dr is out of town until the end of May, and besides that, he doesn't...
