  1. I guess I will be staying gluten free. I still have to get over the reaction that I had from testing barley on Sunday and Monday. The wierd thing is that things seem to have gotten worse over the past two days rather than better. I guess it could be a delayed reaction. I can't find anything in my food diary to suggest that I ate something else that...

    ARCHIVED Dairy Free

I am dairy, soy, gluten, egg (and several other things unrelated to this) free. I found a chocolate bar made by Terra Nostra brand called Ricemilk Choco. It says right on the wrapper that it is gluten free and "non-dairy" ingredients. The ingredients are all vegan (according to the wrapper) ... ...but it does say that it "may contain traces of dairy...
  3. So, I went to see my Dr this morning and he basically told me the same thing. He gave me a choice between getting the (very expensive) genetic testing and going to see a specialist. I chose the specialist and he referred me to Dr Rudert in Atlanta. She is also very expensive because she does not take any insurance, but she is supposed to be very good....
  4. I guess I should have been clearer on this but I have not been eating gluten since early July when I began an elimination diet to identify my food allergies. The only gluten I have had since then is the amount that I have eaten over the past three weeks to test a reaction to it (an even that was not a lot). In answer to the other question, I was last...
  5. I am on an elimination diet and have just tested gluten and reacted quite badly to it. I have had headaches, skin irritation, and severe stomach and intestinal pain along with some other GI issues. It has also made me very tired all the time and yet unable to fall asleep easily at night (so I am up until 1 AM and then take a long nap every afternoon and...
  6. I started having problems in March of this year and my Dr did a blood test for celiac disease on June 13. The results were in the normal range for everything. I finally got a copy of my results after the dietitian that I am seeing went to a training workshop on celiac disease and then told me that the blood tests I had done were not the right ones....
  7. Wow, thanks for all of the ideas. I will definitely have to post up for additional recipe ideas. I think with the protein thing I fell prey to the ideas of some dietitians who went to school back in the days of the "square meal" nutritional model and thought that it was not really a meal unless it featured meat. I had trouble convincing any of the nutritionists...
  8. It's funny, I was vegan until I went away to college in '95 and they had nothing vegan on the meal plan (even the salad bar that they claimed was a "Staple vegan option" never had a single vegan salad dressing on it and often had cheese and egg that had fallen into the other veggie bins). I went back to being just vegetarian until 2002 (I was diagnosed with...
  9. I thought that the only thing I had tried over the past 2 weeks was oats, but I did eat some Lays potato chips and some Kettle brand chips since they said that they only contained potatoes, sunflower or safflower oil and salt (all of which I can eat with no problem). I really haven't eaten any pre-packaged foods other than that since starting the elimination...
  10. Thanks for the tips. Hathor, I saw in your sig that you are yeast and soy free and mostly avoid caesin and egg. Any advice on what you eat when avoiding all of those would be greatly appreciated. My list is similar -- no dairy, soy, corn, yeast, or egg yolk. I know that you eat corn but I am much better at figuring out if there is corn in something...
  11. Does this mean that the fries at RR are actually gluten-free? I would love to be able to find fries that I can eat at an actual restaurant. Fries are my one big weakness, I love them. Does anyone else know of other restaurants where the fries are safe?
  12. Thanks for the tip, I would never have known about the chicken broth. Is there a good pre-packaged brand that is gluten, corn, soy and dairy free? I've never cooked with chicken broth before.
  13. Thanks for all the advice. I will try to get my blood test results and post them up here. I can't get them until at least Tuesday since my Dr. is closed for the long weekend. I don't have a clue which 3 things they tested for but my dietitian and Dr. both work at my university health center and went to a celiac training session a week ago. It happened...
  14. I know that quinoa is not a gluten containing grain and that rye is. I didn't mean to sound so ignorant. I was told not to test rye since I told my dietitian that I HATE the taste of rye bread and she told me that rye is really only in rye bread. I also can not test rye by eating bread because of my yeast allergy. I have been able to eat a small amount...
  15. I actually realized that this was a problem. I have spoken to my Dr. about this (a different Dr. than the one who kept putting me on more and more antibiotics) and he was actually the one who insisted that I start taking probiotics. I have been taking them 3 times a day (as per the instructions on the bottle) for about 3 months now. I took them for about...
  16. Thanks for all the good feedback. I guess I'm the type of person who likes to know for sure so I would ideally like to have a biopsy. On the other hand, I've been so sick just after eating the oats that I'm dreading even having to test eating barley and wheat. If those make me this sick I will not be willing to voluntarily make my self that sick for a...
  17. I just registered and I am sure that there are answers to similar questions on this board somewhere but I am hopelessly confused at this point and in need of some advice. Here's (the short version of) my (long) story. I have been having very bad GI related problems since about mid-March. I was on antibiotics in increasingly stronger (an often overlapping...
