  1. no coments on these items yet- haven't tried any and won't until I actually go gluten-free... but as to the oily crust.. pizza places place oil in the pan in large quantity then the crust, then top and bake! I worked at a Pizza Hut for a few years as a second job when I was younger...
  2. not positive yet- waiting on test results, but: the only irish in my background is having lived there.... my family background is from alsace lorraine (france/german) and other parts of eastern europe... mixed with native american.... again- the eastern european part makes sense for me....
  3. our meijers doesn't have a lot, but they do have the amy's meals.. thanks guys- I can still do frozen dinners for work if I don't have time to cook and pack a lunch! Once I actually go gluten-free that is.. I was going to, but talking to the doc, they want me to wait until after they do another test. I am assuming that is the biopsy but she didnt' want...
  4. My sisters friend in elementary school was allergic to wheat (maybe celiac many years ago) and his mom came up with this recipe which we love to use during passover and I think I'm going ot start using year round as a cake recipe... 12 eggs seperated 12 oz chocolate (iuf using bitter or semisweet- add sugar to taste, I don't like it really sweet so oftne...
  5. its not shortcake, but an old favorite of mine- and it would work as a type of shortcake... shamtorte is a german "cake" its a merengue shell hardened till crunchy, then filled with whipped cream and strawberries.. another option is to make flat layers of merengue and put strawberry in between them.. or any other filling.. it won't absorb it too much...
  6. another Crohns/COlitis link: Open Original Shared Link Mom is on their board. She has Crohns and I have had a diagnosis of it for years but my symptoms were not always consistant.
  7. I am waiting on blood work results after years of being told that either I had Crohns like my mother (but no test showed the appropriate ulcerations) or I had IBS.. they took me off all fats, and I was already off meats and dairy- I eat fish and poultry but other meats and dairy cause unbelievable amounts of cramping, bloating and other issues.... and added...
  8. I haven't tried this particular product and am not gluten free yet- BUT! I am a baker and make tons of icing.. some brands of powdered/confectioners/icing sugar (all names for fine sugar) have things in them to make them stay nice and powdery... these items vary, but from an icing making experience standpoint- the ones that work best are just pure...
  9. thanks for the information. I am going to start cutting back the gluten but not go gluten free.. just eating less of the bad things. Amie
  10. I wish I could go, but I'll be at work this Saturday from 5 Am to 2 PM.. one of the last weeks on that shift, but I still won't have weekends off under the new schedule..
  11. Sara- as being new to gluten-free and Jewish- I apprecite this- will have to try things here.. and I'll share what I find out, I love experimenting in the kitchen anyway. Most of my gluten-free recipes are things I make during passover anyway- tons of cakes, and sweets and things like that.. and I will have to try the gluten-free matza.. I still have...
  12. sounds yummy- I use potatoes and or onions sliced thin as a crust for quiches and other things like that.. hadn't thought of pizza... but had been debating trying it in a lasagna recipe... layers and all..
  13. I am learning to make gluten free cakes, and have been a cake decorator for awhile.. I'm in MI, but don't feel ready to do wedding cakes yet. BUT! I am part of a few online lists of cake decorators, several of whom only do wedding cakes and diabetic and gluten-free cakes have been a big topic recently- even before my diagnosis... At this point most...
  14. A few other options and I'm just starting out, but I had some other diet issues before... if you can find spreads or make sandwich fillings, another option is to use tortillas or endive as a carrier to eat it on... also I make a ton of fancy salads.. I can't have dairy products or fatty things.. and I was able to have wheat now that will be out too...
  15. can't help, but as a new gluten-free, and being that I spend time in that area a lot (my godkids live in Liberty, OH- near Youngstown, and my DH has family in Cleveland, and since we live in MI, we do spend a fair amount of time down there...

    ARCHIVED Fast Food

I am allergic to beef products.. BK is the one place I cannot eat.. I have never eaten at any of those without having a major reaction even to fried things. what it appears to come down to is a major cross contamination issue. even when they use a seperate section of the grill for veggie burgers- they use the same tongs, etc..

    ARCHIVED Zoup Soup

Thanks for this info- I'm in Ann Arbor, hadn't been to this particular restaurant, but emailed them for the gluten-free listing, when I get it, I'll share! I promise...
  18. Glad you posted this- hope its still accurate... not positive yet, but I am starting gluten free now... I think it will be positive when I get the results from the blood test back on Monday- I had never considered Celiac, but the more I learn the more it sounds like this is what I have! I never thought I'd be hoping for a medical test to be positive, but...
  19. Thanks for the list guys, I am now more certain then ever that the blood test that I took earlier this week will come back positive.. I already started the gluten free thing today- went grocery shopping for supplies and such.. I wasn't doing much gluten prior to this point... but some. I had been told years ago that I had Crohns disease like my mom.....
