Orca Bay Foods of Seattle, WA is recalling 4,450 lb. (356 cases) of 10 oz. retail box Trader Joe's brand Gluten Free Battered Halibut SKU 00503822, because it contains undeclared wheat and milk allergens. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to wheat and milk run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product...

Hoisin Sauce
Scott Adams replied to Bharvi's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've never tried Dynasty. Does it say "gluten-free" on the label? I would only try it if it was labelled "gluten-free." Lee Kum Kee sauces are very good about labelling their products "gluten-free." -
Also, I gliadin is the toxic portion of wheat that we generally refer to as "gluten." The sequence is also in rye and barley. Oats are complicated as there are verities that some celiacs react to, even if they are not contaminated by wheat, rye or barley, and oats are often contaminated. Some people can eat certified gluten-free oats, while others cannot...

The general recommendation is to avoid all processed foods for a while, even certified gluten-free ones. This isn't easy to do, but studies have found trace amounts of gluten in foods that are labelled gluten-free, and I believe even in some that were certified gluten-free.

We will be doing a summary, and this is very interesting news. Certainly any available option like Tryptophan that could help those with celiac disease heal up faster, and perhaps even help maintain a healthy gut, is good news.

I believe that Manischewitz does make gluten-free mixes, but you would need to read the ingredients/label to be sure. Also, quinoa might be a good substitute for the barley.

Of course we can't officially diagnose you with just this image, however, it does look a lot like the small spot of DH that I had on the back on my hand (until it was horribly sunburned and never came back!). It would be important for her to get a celiac disease blood screening, and see a dermatologist for a skin biopsy that looks specifically for DH...

Itching!!!
Scott Adams replied to Sarah Fisher's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes, it would be helpful if you could share your blood test results. You may have recorded antibodies just below a level the indicates celiac disease, but this could still mean that you are gluten sensitive. Knowing more about your results would be helpful. -
We do not know, but will post a summary of any research that follows this up.

“Non-celiac disease”
Scott Adams replied to Luna21's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Does it say what type of test this was? Was it ttg? Also, is the normal range for this test shown? Knowing these would be helpful. -
Shampoo & Conditioner
Scott Adams replied to Wisconsin woman's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yes, I agree, since there are so many that are now labelled "gluten-free," why not just go with one that you can be sure won't cause you any issues? -
Although the standard spiel from medical doctors would be to recommend getting a formal diagnosis, having DH I can fully understand why you might not want to go that route, due to the fact that DH symptoms can be unbearable for most. In the end it is really your call on whether or not you need a formal diagnosis to stay gluten-free.

Are McDonald's Latte and Coffee Drinks Gluten-Free?
Scott Adams commented on Scott Adams's article in Gluten-Free Foods & Beverages
In the USA natural flavoring is considered gluten-free, and it would need to include wheat on the label if it contained wheat:- 7 comments

DH looks like tiny clear blisters that are super itchy, and usually surrounded by redness. If you can't get to a doctor and get a celiac disease blood panel, another option is ordering an online test kit, but keep in mind that to be tested for celiac disease you must continue eating gluten daily until your tests are finished.

Seasonal Allergy Symptoms + More
Scott Adams replied to KatieM's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I had severe seasonal pollen allergies until I was diagnosed when I was around 27. I used to have to take both food and pollen allergy shots. My nose was more or less permanently clogged during much on my youth, but I didn't have obvious symptoms from the food allergies, beyond the constant nasal drainage issues. My allergist told me back then, long before...
