ARCHIVED Tests All Negative - This Does Not Help Me!
cdog7 replied to cdog7's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
And you know, if he does suggest that I'll refuse - I think that's totally barbaric. Hopefully in time, most doctors will look back on stuff like this and agree! -
ARCHIVED Tests All Negative - This Does Not Help Me!

That's a great suggestion. I also talked to my Mom today, who was there with me after the endoscopy (and was more coherent than I at the time) - she said the doctor mentioned seeing a lot of inflammation in my intestine. So there 'tis, something's going on in there! thanks! -

You know, I asked about that pill-cam thing, but they just told me that was a 'totally different test'! I don't actually know how many samples they took, aside from 'several'. Maybe I should ask! Thanks, Carolyn -

ARCHIVED Recovery Time
cdog7 posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
So finally I am gluten-free, yay! It's only been a few days, but so far the first things to disappear are the brain fog, some of the bloating and about six pounds. But I'm still getting D pretty much every day. Is that normal? -
Hi Laura, One great thing about this area is the supermarkets -- we have several Whole Foods markets for instance, and a couple Trader Joe's, both of which have great gluten-free selection. And now there's a Wegman's, which I hear is possibly better! I'm still figuring out the eating-out possibilities, but I do know we have lots of sushi joints, and...

It's almost time for my endoscopy! Finally! My deal with myself is that I'm going gluten-free after the test is done, before I even get results. Because I already know it helps, I just want to see if I can get a diagnosis. My GI is going to do an upper endoscopy and a colonoscopy with biopsies, probably because my blood test was negative for celiac so he...

ARCHIVED Toughing Out The Gluten Challenge
cdog7 posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
So I'm still on a gluten diet so I can get the biopsy done, hopefully with near-accurate results if I'm lucky! This is just the pits. Hopefully it won't be much longer, but who knows -
ARCHIVED Disease Making Me Feel Isolated
cdog7 replied to Mac20elle's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I really sympathize, as I'm also very new to this, and also newly single (divorce pending). My celiac mother had some good advice for me regarding social events, though. First off, if it's a catered event or restaurant, you can call way ahead of time to find out menu options from them -
I'm so fed up with the whole idea of how celiac is diagnosed (especially after going through 3 doctors that had no clue about it), so now I'm considering the Enterolab test. I can't stand that I would otherwise have to damage my body on purpose, maybe for years just to get a dx, even when I have all the symptoms and a celiac mother. It's maddening! Here...

ARCHIVED celiac disease Affecting My Career
cdog7 replied to cdog7's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm still waiting to actually get the tests! I definitely plan to go gluten-free as soon as I get them. I had the blood test already, but it was supposedly negative. However, I really don't trust the doctor that did it and am not sure that his nurses knew what the heck they were doing (I think he just had them take my blood to shut me up). Bad experience... -
Ok, so probably the last place I'd ever want to cause drama or attract negative attention is at work. Unfortunately, because of my illness, I've missed a lot of work and been late much more often this year. The absences were mostly from before I had any idea what might be wrong with me, and really thought I was just getting the flu over and over. Being late...

I'm going to see a new doctor this month, hoping to get my diagnosis process rolling. Do any of you have advice on how to approach your doctor about Celiac? Naturally, my worst fear is that she could be as clueless about it as my last doctor. Should I come armed with newspaper articles? Already I've typed out a list of my symptoms, so that I won't...

Right back at you! You've all given me some good points to ponder, both in putting things in perspective and some actual strategy.

Yes!! I'm going! Can't wait. I live in Baltimore, so how can I *not* go? Carolyn

Hmm, *very* good points.

ARCHIVED Different Glutens, Different Responses?
cdog7 posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Anyone else notice that depending on what type of gluten-containing food you have, your reaction to it can be totally different? Is that, uh, right? I'm noticing this while I'm still in the pre-diagnosis phase and trying to keep some gluten in my diet for the testing.. Example -
That is awesome! Thanks for sharing that

So I'm newly single, and now is when I find out I have celiac disease and must begin a gluten-free diet! Eep! I think even more frightening to me than all the new eating restrictions is the prospect of trying to meet someone new and date while I'm ensuring my gluten-free meals. How do I *not* scare them off? I'm so afraid of appearing 'high maintenance...

Hi Ursa Major, thanks for the welcome! Yes, I'm still 'glutening' it up for now, though it gets harder to do. I used to love beer so much! But now it just feels like I'm drinking battery acid and starts turning my stomach fast. Pasta, too. I'm so glad there's gluten-free alternatives for both now! I'm trying to eat at least one gluten meal a day now, it's...

Hi Gina, thanks! I recently discovered that, and plan to go, myself! I think my mom might come too, we'll see. I guess this is a pretty good town to be in if you happen to have celiac disease!

Hello all, I'm still in the process of getting diagnosed, but I've pretty much figured out I have at least *some* issue with gluten. Since my mother has celiac, I'm just kind of expecting that's the deal. I never believed my mother that I should be worried about having celiac disease, because up until relatively recently, I had no noticeable symptoms...
