  1. Tounge and groove! That's the ticket! I love the look of it anyway! I know we are required to put up sheetrock over the foam insulation that we had blown in - so that's necessary. But perhaps we can avoid having to use the drywall compound on the joints, which, I think, is where all the dust comes from - by covering the sheetrock with tounge and groove...
  2. Yes, but it gets into everything - cupboards, blankets, etc. No matter how we tried to seal off the room we were working on, it still got all over the house. That dust is so fine. We cleaned and cleaned and still found it weeks later inside windows that hadn't been opened all winter. What a mess! And not good for us to breath.
  3. Anyone know if there is a gluten-free drywall mud/compound out there that is safe for celiacs to use when remodeling? I got so sick last time we used regular joint compound, I'm not willing to risk it again. I've been searching the internet and can't find a gluten-free one. HELP! Kritter
  4. As a matter of fact, I am having a very similar experience. I don't ever remember being as gassy or having as frequent D as I do now that I'm gluten free for two solid months. I am not happy that you are having this problem too, but I can say I'm a little bit relieved not to be the only one for whom this issue has worsened since going g.f. I was wondering...
  5. Funny you should mention this - I have developed (or maybe just discovered) some additional food allergies since going gluten-free. I now am allergic to nightshades (tomatos, peppers, egg plant, etc) Perhaps I was before, but I had so much going on and felt so bad all the time, that now that I'm feeling better, it's easier to notice something that gives...

    ARCHIVED Diarrhea

Jerseyangel, You really are an angel! I'm going to try your advise starting today regarding the calcium and magnesium! Sure can't hurt anything - and hopefully it will help! Thanks for reinforcing that I'm doing the right thing staying on the diet. I am gluten-intolerant according to my allergist, who refuses to believe that I'm not, even though...

    ARCHIVED Diarrhea

RiceGuy, I found that article helpful - thanks so much! On the magnesium topic, do you suppose that it's possible that the amount of magnesium I was taking before I went g.f.(which I haven't adjusted at all in years) is all of the sudden is a bit too much now that I've been gluten-free for two months? ARCHIVED Diarrhea

Jersygirl and RiceGuy, Well, at least I'm not alone in this symptom. Someone told me to just go off the gluten-free diet and I would get back to normal - but I don't believe that. That seems like bad, uniformed advise. What do you think? They reasoned that since the D wasn't so bad before I went G.F. - it would get better if I quit. Although - so many...

    ARCHIVED Diarrhea

Hello! Can any of the more experienced members help me with a vexing question? I have diarrhea worse now than I ever did before going gluten-free. I've been g.f. for 2 months, and in general I feel a lot better except for the increased, and worsening diarrhea. In addition to avoiding gluten, I do not eat soy, dairy, nightshades, sugar, citrus, or artificial...
  10. I don't know how many of you might already be aware of this, but my Allergist told me that potatos (thusly, also potato chips) have a lot of naturally occuring msg. This isn't the msg that is added - but the kind that occurs naturally in things like peas, mushrooms, potatos, and espcially parmesan cheese. If you are sensitive to msg in other things - maybe...
  11. Emily Elizabeth, I'm so glad you asked this question! I've been gluten-free for a little over a month now, and my belly is getting worse instead of better. I thought I was going nuts! Thanks for having the guts to ask this question!! (no pun intended!!) AliB's reply really makes sense to me!!!! I'm consuming lots and lots of carbs (even though they are...
  12. I tell people I'm "grain challenged." It adds a bit of humor to dining with friends and it shows that I'm not embarrassed to talk about it. I find the lighter I am in my approach (without compromising my dietary needs) the easier it is to explain to folks. This does not go for wait-staff or cooks in a restaurant, however. I need to be much more "serious...
  13. Thank you so much everyone! Should have know to ask you guys first! Kritter
  14. Hello, Perhaps I'm doing something wrong - I tried to post a question yesterday (3-9-08) about the ingredient Dimethicone - and whether or not Celiacs have to avoid it. The posting isn't up yet. Did I do something wrong? Kritter
  15. Does anyone out there know the real scoop on the ingredient "Dimethicone" ?!?!?! I'm confused about this one as I'm reading my cosmetic and toiletry ingredients. Do Celiacs need to avoid Dimethicone? Thanks for any help you can give me! Kritter
  16. Hi Chris, Here's a thought: what if your Mom could go shopping at the Whole Foods here in the cities for you. They have a whole list available right at the customer service desk of all the foods in the store that are gluten-free. They also have a handy little system of putting green gluten-free tags right next to the price tag on the shelving units - so...
  17. Thank you!!! Yes it does help!
  18. Can anyone help me make sense of this?!?!? I'm only 3 weeks gluten-free, and my head is spinning. I just went out and bought a bunch of Burt's Bees stuff that was listed as "gluten-free" on their website. Then, when I got it home, I noticed Tocopheryl Acetate as a listed ingredient on some of the labels. I thought Tocoherol and Tocopheryl Acetate were...
  19. Welcome! Nice to meet you! I'm pretty new here as well. I'm only 3 weeks gluten-free, but like you, I have a whole new outlook on life! I feel hopeful and encouraged for the first time in a long while and the people here are great! Something you said in your very first post has already been an inspiration to someone else (me) so that should also make...
  20. AmF, My Pharmacist recommended an acidophilus pearl. It is made by the "Leader" company. The reason he says the "pearl" is best is because it doesn't disolve in your stomach, like the capsules do. It stays intact and disolves only after it hits your intestinal tract - which is exactly where you actually need to good stuff (pro-biotics) to go. The box...
  21. I have noticed a big improvement in anxiety since going on the gluten-free diet 3 weeks ago. I'm much calmer, even a friend of mine who is a Psychologist (she does not treat me, though) has noticed the change in me. I realize that the length of time it takes people to improve after being on a g.f. diet varies significantly due to the damage they have already...
  22. Thank you so much! I checked this out immediately - very helpful! Sometimes I just need a shove in the right direction as I'm pretty new at this! Kritter
  23. Hello Everyone! I've been hearing a lot about how cosmetics and other products that I use around my home might have gluten in them. Is there a good resource - like a book or anything- that anyone can recommend that will help me determine which products (lotions, soaps, make-up etc.) are safe to use and which ones aren't? Kritter
  24. Mamasaidso, Thank you for this tip! We've been looking for a good pasta and haven't had much luck! There is a Whole Foods nearby - I'll be checking out Notta Pasta tomorrow!!! Kritter
  25. Thumper, I, too, am realatively new to this, and I also found I was really blue (almost depressed) at first and had NO energy at all. I just sat around for days on end. I could have cared less if I did one productive thing all day. I think it was part of the withdrawal that my body was going through coming off of gluten, which had basically been "toxic...
