  1. Update: After just 3 days low-iodine, and 5 days being completely militant about avoiding cross-contamination, plus a few doses of niacin... oh and liberal use of Cliniderm lotion (that's Vanicream in Canada)... I am MUCH better already. Today is the least itchy day I've had in months. What a huge relief! At this rate, by the time I get in to see my doctor...
  2. That is not a title that anyone would want, cyclinglady! Poor you. The more I read the more I think this must be DH. The rash and itchiness has spread from my elbows up and and down my arms, and also showed up first on the insides of my knees, then the outsides and back, and then around my ankles. Always on both sides. Now a bit down the sides of my...
  3. Well I'm definitely not a pro, but I've looked at a lot of photos of late, and certainly it is consistent with some of what I've seen. That said there are a zillion types of rash out there that it could also be! Poison Oak can look like that, just to name one. Good luck with trying to figure it out! Get a biopsy if you can and don't quit eating gluten until...
  4. I had a full celiac panel... or as much as the doctor was willing to order 8 years ago. No genetic test. I know it's possible it was a false negative -- seemed likely in fact given that my total IGA was low. But I guess I am still curious -- is it even worth getting a biopsy if I haven't been eating gluten (other than CC) for so long? I'm not willing to do...
  5. Hi there, I've been struggling with weird itching for about 8 months now. At first it was my scalp -- like crazy most days for a number of months. Mostly there was nothing visible, though I could feel small bumps, like little pimples, occasionally. Not many though, just a few. My lower back also started itching like crazy -- and mostly looked pretty...
  6. I would still love to hear what any of the long-standing Celiacs on this board have to say about this... thank you!
  7. Hi there, Following the positive diagnosis of my two younger siblings, I also was tested for Celiac, about 2 months ago. My test results were somewhat inconclusive (low IGA) but I stopped eating gluten and have noticed many positive improvements for it. However, because I didn't have a conclusive diagnosis, I did what I'm sure many of you would have advised...
  8. Hi there, After my sister was diagnosed with celiac, I cut out gluten for 10 days as part of a cleanse and felt much better. So I went back to wheat for 5 days, and my doctor ordered blood tests. She would only test for ttG and IgA as she said the rest were outdated or something (which isn't what the general consensus on this forum seems to be). My...
  9. I just found this: Open Original Shared Link Pictures to make anyone feel less depressed about the options!
  10. I hear you -- it's hard to wrap your head around. On the plus side, you could choose to view it as a whole new baking challenge. You mastered the art of the "normal" chocolate chip cookie... now you get to master the art of the gluten-free one! (My first gluten-free baking attempt, two days ago, was not such a success. Hint: don't skip the xantham gum...
  11. Sigh... still waiting for test results! Apparently the lab waits until they have a bunch of tTG tests to do, and then does them all at once. It's hard to know what to think anymore. I have started eating gluten-free, to see how that feels.... and I can understand why people get hung up on having a diagnosis. There is this feeling like I am just being...
  12. Saw the doctor yesterday... she wasn't totally clueless, though it was obvious that I was better informed than her, after my three days 3 days doing obsessive research (mostly in here!) She ran the tTG one, but told me that the other two (AGA and EMA) were "old" and that people don't do those any more, and they don't tell you anything useful. Is...
  13. Thanks HappyGirl! I have had a wheat binge this weekend... it has made me feel terrible (at least, *something* has made me feel terrible and perhaps I'm just assuming it's the wheat when it could be anything)... Here's hoping I get accurate results this week, whatever they are!
  14. Hi there... So, a couple of months ago my little sister, after being dreadfully sick for weeks (and after years of suffering digestive problems before that) had a positive blood test for Celiac disease. (I don't know exactly what blood test she got, and her doctor didn't seem to know anything, but she has responded very well to a gluten-free diet and decided...
