Hi Everyone,
I got the tests results back and everything is negative except for the fact that my 9 year old daughter has DQ2. Her Pediatrican is like "all those genetic tests do is scare people - it is nothing." I had the test done at Stanford and they said that it is nothing to worry about - just watch her. Everyone also says don't bother with the diet - too difficult - no reason to go on it. I took her today for a lactose test and it appeared that it was going to come back negative. I won't know until Monday but the nurse acted really surprised that she had no symptoms during the test. I am beginning to feel stupid. I just don't know what else to atribute her terrible gas and fatigue to. She does present very healthy - no weight problems or skin problems.
I am thinking about having her do the test through the Enterolab but maybe I should just stop.

We are in the process of getting everything sorted out with testing. But I was curious one of our twins tested positive for the gene DQ2. She has some symptoms of terrible gas and fatigue. Her twin brother has had a whole host of problems growing up (almost 10 years) and doctors could never put their finger on what is wrong with him. Now, I am wondering if he doesn't have celiac. It would explain a lot. But my question is that he has always craved pasta. I mean to the point where he would have rages he doesn't get it. He is a very picky eater. I have heard that cravings like this might be a symptom of something. Has anyone else experienced or heard of this?
Thanks for the replies.

My 9 year old daughter had the blood test done for celiac and the tests came back negative but she does carry the gene. What does this mean for her? She does have some symptoms of fatigue and horrible gas. But the GI thinks that it might be milk allergy related. Can anyone explain what I should be doing? Thanks for any replies

I took my daughter to the GI because she has the worst gas (terrible!!) and it is getting worse. She also complains of being tired a lot. He didn't think that she has celiac because she is so healthy looking - tall, not weight problem. He did a blood test to rule it out just as a precaution. The tests came back negative but she does carry the gene. I also believe she has a milk allergy. SHe has premature and had to stay in the hospital because of severe bloating. Put her on soy and she was better. Anyway, the doctor does not want to do a bioposy (sp) and I don't want to put her through any more tests. What does everyone think of our situation. Can you have the gene and not have celiac?
Thanks for your answers

Thanks for the replies. We have not tried any diet changes yet. I wanted to get the test results back from the Lactose tests first. Her pediatrician thought that we should just treat her symptoms - constipation (by cleaning her out and) and fatigue by giving her Melatonin. I still have this nagging feeling thats finr but it isn't treating the main underlined problem. Anyway, I think I will try the diet and get the enterlab test done. I am going to have her brother and I tested as well because I have bad IBS and he has other symptoms that could be.
