  1. My Zo bread machine is only for gluten-free baking. I thought I was being neurotic but I guess I'm not alone in worrying about switching back and forth. I just use the basic cycle for my gluten-free mixes and it has worked fine. I also got a recipe from the company (if you call them, they can guide you through finding recipes) and used the basic setting...
  2. Just wanted to thank you for that recipe, JenPen. I made a double batch for the French class yesterday and they were a huge hit. The teacher emailed me to ask for the recipe (I hope you don't mind that I gave it to her!) because she said they were some of the best crepes she'd ever had and she has a celiac friend who would love them. I can attest to how...
  3. Dulce de Leche is fine. Debbie, you really should call Haagen Dazs. You'll get your own list (and who knows, it may have even more flavors on it) and you might get COUPONS. To buy ICE CREAM. What could be better? Call 800-767-0120. They are very nice on the phone. If I had a xerox machine or a fax I would totally send you a copy. But I don...
  4. Wow, that is really interesting. That sounds like ME!
  5. Thank you for the info. I had the appointment last week and asked for some of those tests, plus a celiac panel (which I never had done before) but I will see her again in a few months and I'll ask for the rest. I am going to start to ask for copies of these tests, I think. It seems many people on the forum do that, and it sounds like a good idea.
  6. I actually contacted Haagen-Daz early on and they have many gluten-free flavors. They mailed me an info sheet in response to my phone query and some coupons, too. The flavors that DO contain gluten (in the superpremium category) are: Caramel Cone Cookie Dough Cookies and Cream Sticky Toffee Pudding The rest are fine. The light version...
  7. Hi Debbie, I am so sorry to hear how unhappy you are. I am only gluten-free for 3 months and I'm still pretty sad, too. My problem, however, has always been being overweight and that has not changed from giving up gluten. I guess we are all different in the way this disease affects us. Anyway, just sending some encouragement your way. Carin
  8. jberg, just wondering how you are doing. Did you get to see the doctor yet?
  9. I found a ton of books at my Barnes & Noble (in NJ) but they were all in the cookbook section, not in the Health section.
  10. My doctor told me when I woke up that he suspected celiac (which had not even been a possibility as far as I knew) but that the biopsy would confirm it. Which it did. It was easy, easy, easy. Best sleep I've ever had.
  11. I'm sorry I don't know more but I can tell you that in my case, I personally did not lose an ounce of weight and I still was diagnosed by biopsy as celiac. I had no symptoms beyond anemia. I don't know if it is different with children. I have a book that I have not read yet: KIDS WITH CELIAC DISEASE by Danna Korn. She says that "a negative blood screening...
  12. I am far from an expert but I do have a 13 year old who was just diagnosed by biopsy after positive bloodwork. I am sorry you are having such a rough time. We had a straight line from pediatrician's positive bloodwork to gastro's positive bloodwork to confirmation by endoscopy. But I had been reading all along on this forum and I have heard people say that...
  13. I can't thank you enough! I will give these a whirl. They sound great!
  14. My 8th grader's French teacher wants to have a monthly French food party in class. She is very open to accommodating his allergies (nuts, soy) as well as his celiac disease. I told her I'd search for a gluten-free crepe recipe. Anyone have one? I'd be very grateful. Carin
  15. I am having a real addiction to Kettle Corn (the sweet kind) and to Kozy Shack flan. Very high in calories, but gluten free!
