Took my kids to go strawberry picking this morning. All excited! Organic, no pesdicides, cheap, yada yada.
I noticed this weird grain looking grass growing from the ground all around the strawberry patches so I asked the owners what it is. I say, "is that wheat growing from the patches?...no...whew(I think to myself).....it's rye
She said it comes in the hay and grows from that.
So now what to do? Should I eat them? I could just give them a good rinse. Do I worry about cross contamination? Are ALL strawberries grown like this? For that matter, all fruits and veggies??????
Has anyone delt with this? I am just beside myself. I've been eating (store bought) strawberries a lot. I just don't know what to think!

Unfortunately no. I somtimes will get extra "gassy" when I've been glutened, but other than that Idon't get any other symptoms.
I did notice today though, that after I had already eaten 4 that my nose itched really bad and my lips were a little hive-y. I will have to see if that happens with the store bough ones too.
I am a FREAK about washing my produce, would washing these strawberries be acceptable practice for celiacs???
