  1. There are indeed less severe cases of celiac, consult your doctor. I am in no way encouraging people to eat gluten, as I stated EAT GLUTEN FREE. There does have to be a realization though that you are going to screw up without even knowing it. I can eat something and not feel a thing, but I know what is being done, so I won't be doing it again. You...
  2. I'm sorry to hear of your aunt. Before replying, you quoted me at saying... "Eat Gluten Free and live happy" at no point did I say "Take your chances, you'll be fine". I've read and read, I know what Celiac does, and I haven't experienced the dramatic effects of it as some here have.
  3. Well, I'm back. I started this topic last week and had no idea I'd come back to 3 pages of replies. I started this topic after reading topic after topic of people saying... "I was just diagnosed, I feel so helpless." My intention was certainly not to say If you don't get sick, you can eat it. I know this is not the truth, and I won't be eating the cheese...
  4. So I guess you are a mild case like me? You can 'eat the stuff' and survive for a few days? It does come in handy in a pinch, but certainly not doctor recommended.
  5. Trips? I have thought about this a lot, and there is no way to be sure other than to take your own food. It sucks, yes it sucks. Recently I went to visit a friend at college, not knowing what they would have to eat I whipped up some plain rice and chicken and took it along. I spent a good deal of the weekend eating... Rice and Chicken, but I wasn't sick...
  6. I'm here to tell you that Celiac disease is not the end of the world! Some people on here sound like they are dying, and sure, I'm sure they are worse off than me. Maybe you were recently diagnosed? Well its important to know that there is a very wide spectrum of symptoms and tolerance levels. I for one, am not sick all the time and was only sick for ...
  7. Here's my story: It came out of the Blue. Diarrhea, throwing up, and no explanation. So my mother who cares very much for me puts me on a restricted diet. Sandwiches, soups, and crackers. (Those of you that know Celiac are smiling while shaking your head) Luckily my mom works for a gastroenterologist & nutritionist. When eating nothing but wheat...
  8. IT TAKES TIME. Thats the bottom line. If you can find a good gluten free cookbook. These are excellent (Open Original Shared Link) Make some Gluten Free sweets or buy them, and don't let anyone else eat them! You can't eat their cookies, don't let them eat your's! The desire did go away some for me, but it can hit you hard when you don't expect it...
  9. For me, the key was finding out what I can tolerate. YES, eating gluten is bad for me, and does damage to my system. As I venture on my Gluten free life I find it gets easier and easier. I desire that cake a little bit less and worry about it all less. I fill my house with Gluten free and know that I can always go there! I lived in a littled box eating...
  10. Luckily I've never experienced this, at least I don't think I have? You're not all getting glutened on a few Beers are you?
  11. Definitely consult your doc! Sometimes its hard for your doctor to know what to do for Celiac, but ask if he can order bloodwork. We ALL hate bloodwork, but you sleep and/or lack of energy problems could easily be a vitamin or mineral deficiency. Anyone that has absorption issues should be on some vitamin supplements! Your doctor should be able to take...
