Just wanted to share this letter I got from Dannon. I originally asked about their yogurts because the ingredients listed both "modified food starch" and "modified corn starch". "Thank you for contacting The Dannon Company, Inc. We sincerely appreciate your interest in Dannon yogurt products and gluten. Dannon yogurt products are characterized as either...

ARCHIVED Family Doesn't Get Itcookiequeen replied to cookiequeen's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease I never thought about the travel sized mouth washes. Now that's good advice ! I'm sure he'd be up for it since he likes using mouth wash at home. We haven't been eating out as much because I don't think most of the restaurants around here pay enough attention to special requests (except for Spiral Diner, my favorite). I can't remember how many times...

ARCHIVED Celiac V.s. Gluten Intollerantcookiequeen replied to sugarsue's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs My blood tests also came back negative but I reacted positively to a gluten free diet. It took only a few days for some of my symptoms to diminish. My gastroenterologist said that it was probably an intolerance and to continue the diet. My GI problems keep improving every week.

bluejeangirl, It's great that you feel better eating the way you do. Do you not eat any soy products at all? Just curious. I never cook it myself but I'll eat it if served to me. I also drink soy milk. I've finally begun to get a little more versatility in my diet. I didn't realize how big wheat products were in my diet but now I'm not sure why I was...

I ran into someone who said that they went to Chili's with a friend with celiac. She said her friend asked for a gluten free menu and there was one available. I went to the website and there are allergen menus that can be downloaded, including wheat/gluten free.

ARCHIVED Family Doesn't Get Itcookiequeen replied to cookiequeen's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease abuse? Seriously?! Maybe if I've been gluten free for years or even more than 3 freaking weeks. He's been really supportive when we go grocery shopping or out to eat. He was even cool with me giving away foods that I couldn't eat anymore. He's been doing a good job at kissing my cheek after meals, with little reminders here and there. Like I said before,...

ARCHIVED Family Doesn't Get Itcookiequeen replied to cookiequeen's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease "Abusive jerk" is pushing the line! He may not understand the diet, as this is my 3rd week of being gluten free, and it is a learning experience for the both of us. I did speak with him about what happened and how I felt. I told him the same rule applied as if he had just ate meat (I'm vegetarian). I think we have a better understanding now. It's hard for...

Yeah most people freak out a little when they hear about my diet. My selections have gotten better, especially now that I'm trying to cook a little more. I'd say my meals have actually become healthier now that I've cut out a lot of the processed stuff. I will miss my morning star "chicken" burgers though...

ARCHIVED Looking For A Nutritionist In Nycookiequeen replied to tkm831's topic in Related Issues & Disorders I don't live in NY but I am a registered dietitian (RD). One of the best ways to find one is through the American Dietetic Association's website, eatright.org. You can search for one by location. Make sure you see a RD vs a nutritionist. RDs have certain educational requirements, many hours of internships, use peer reviewed & evidenced based nutritional...

My husband just finished a bowl of honey nut cheerios and insisted that he give me a kiss. I've been gluten free for almost 2 weeks and the smell of cereal was very tempting so I asked him to wait a while. His playful response was "What? No gluten kisses" then he laid one on me! Earlier today I was having lunch at Starbucks (I brought my own meal) and...

ARCHIVED Bookstores Suckcookiequeen replied to cookiequeen's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease I went back to Borders to see if they could order the book I want. I'm a registered dietitian and I like to keep reference book and other things that may be helpful so I figured I'd just purchase something. Turns out that they had more books this time on the subject and they even had both of the books I was looking for.

ARCHIVED Ice Creamcookiequeen replied to Laurad-'s topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications I went to Jason's Deli today and asked if the soft serve had gluten. It does . No wonder it got sick the last time I ate there.

ARCHIVED Overeating Causes Problems?cookiequeen replied to cookiequeen's topic in Related Issues & Disorders What type of supplements do you take? I usually take protein powder because I tend not to consume enough for my activity level (exercise 5-6 days a week, sometime with two-a-days). But to be honest, this last binge was mostly emotional. I wasn't looking forward to going back to work after a 3 day weekend. I've grown to dislike my job and I've been looking...

I had one of those days this weekend where I just couldn't get enough food. I just wanted to eat and nothing satisfied me. The night of overeating I was sporting my "I'm-not-really-pregnant-but-it-just-looks-like-I-am" bloated gut. I was pretty sure I didn't have any gluten as no new food had been purchased for a while. I went to bed with the bloated belly...

ARCHIVED Bookstores Suckcookiequeen posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease So I've had to follow a gluten free diet for a week now and I was curious to look at some books about it. I also wanted to get a book for my Mom since she gets worked up about what I can eat when ever I visit her. I went to Borders and Barnes & Noble but neither one had a good celiac selection. Barnes and Nobles actually said they didn't have any books...

I was vegetarian (lacto/ovo) before I had to cut out gluten. Now I find myself eating more nuts because it helps kill my now increased hunger. Anyone else out there follow this type of diet? I need a little help feeling satisfied with my meals without adding so much fat. I certainly don't need to put on weight.

ARCHIVED Nuts With Honeycookiequeen posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications The other day I went to Central Market in Fort Worth, TX and bought myself a little baggie of honey coated cashews and another of sugar free chocolate almonds. Both where from the bulk department and I used a small spice bag to control my portions. I was mindful of getting only a little of the sugar free candy since eating to much can cause diarrhea. Anyway...

ARCHIVED Anyone Out There From Dallas, Texascookiequeen replied to Lollie's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff Any good places to eat in Fort Worth? It was hard enough getting vegetarian foods that didn't have chicken broth or something in it. I used to go to Spiral Diner. Are there any sort of meetings in Ft Worth?

ARCHIVED Blood Testscookiequeen replied to cookiequeen's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms Yeah, I think I'll give up the Maalox. Who wants to keep that up ?! Yuck! I'll have to get a copy of the test result. It's supposed to be a "comprehensive" test. Should I expect all of the results to be negative or should at least one be positive? I think I'll hunt down another doctor too. No family history here, that I know of. I'm the only one with...

Anyone know of a gastroenterologist in Fort Worth, TX that will take me seriously? During my first visit to the GI doctor I felt like they were blowing me off because I'm young and must not know anything. They gave me a handout for constipation. Who has 3 yrs of "just constipation"

ARCHIVED Blood Testscookiequeen replied to cookiequeen's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms That's what I figured. The Dr (his nurse practitioner, actually ), insisted that my symptoms was just due to poor diet and constipation management. She told me to eat activia daily (which I'm getting sick of), take a stool softener daily, miralax or maalox daily, fiber, and plenty of water. That's been making me feel almost just as bad because now I feel...

Is it possible to have a negative blood test but still have celiac?
