  1. What is a Neem? (Sorry I'm new here so don't know that term/name) But yes..if badly gluten poisoned I do this..it cuts down drstically on healing time for me. In fact the first day or so I only have liquids. I'm rarely hungry after an attack anyway..my tummy just 'sounds' like it's hungry with all the grumbling noises it makes!
  2. I don't have mush of a problem with dairy.. But..having said that when I went gluten-free over 5 years ago I decided not to have milk just in case. I kept off it for about 2 years, then found some lactase drops by Biocare which take out/reduce the lactose in milk..so I stuck with that if I wanted milk. Now, 5 years down the line I can drink milk, normal...
  3. ^^^that's it exactly! At the stage you are you body is still recovering..and..yes..you're right I am loads better in many ways than I was..I do get ill when I cheat - but it's really important to say I'm wheat intolerant and not coeliac - ..but if I do cheat I p ay with pain..but there isn't the build up like there has been with all teh other symptoms...
  4. Doh! My apologies! I've never heard of grits so just read it as Quaker Oats. ETA: ahhh...just went to have a look..and yup some are fine..some not..again I misinterpreted and read too quick..oops!
  5. *waves* Helloooo all!! I'm from Berkshire. I only joined here today while looking up some info for a friend on another forumbut have been gluten-free for over 5 years now..so pretty clued up and used to it now.. Good to see you all here!
  6. The only reason for getting tests is to get prescrption foods..I had to do the tests to get that. ut absolutely..if you are ok without prescrption foods (in the UK they are so expensive to buy) then just go for it and do what your body likes. I give in to cravings too..currently suffering from a slice of garlic bread last Sunday...grrr! My own...
  7. Seeing this has made me feel all warm and fuzzy! Bear in mind I am always open and clear..upfront about this..saying.. 'I can't eat wheat products with wheat, oats, barley and rye in them.. but I've had.. What? Why can't you have pizza? What is in pizza that you can't have then? 'Oh just have one sandwich..it won't hurt your diet' ...
  8. I fear she may not come back too. However..if we are honest I think most of us (?) have been through the same kind of stage. A different post reminded me of mine today (only been on here a few hours too!)..my tum shut down..I'm not even diagnosed as Coeliac..when my tum shut down I had major doubts about my wheat intolerance diagnosis...but..it's there...
  9. Beth, for me it's because I've been gluten free for 5 and a half years now and I know the symptoms so well. I cheat sometimes if I have a craving really bad..then just wait..for the reaction to happen..usually 7-8 days later. Otherwise it will be if I have gone out to eat..thought I was safe and it turns out I wasn't
  10. First off..don't worry..if it were me I would take my own lunch with me..just in case.. I have always been up front about it at interviews and they are always more fascinated by it that shocked or worried. If I were to partake in one of the cakes my dept bring in...well..then they would worry! Good luck with the interviews! That's a long old interview...
  11. I hope you don't mind me quoting you there Jersey..but..well spotted for one..and.. Oats contain gluten full stop..part of the four to avoid..wheat. oats barley and rye so that product will have caused you a reaction..plus the less gluten foods you eat..and then you have some..your reaction cn be much worse than when you were eating gluten all the time...
  12. Woobet..I totally sympathise with all that you are going through.. You think you may have an answer and then something else crops up. This is only a suggestion..but I will tell you how it all happened for me..it might help you. For one thing..as we all know..stress affects your stomach.. I did the 6 week (which is the time we are given) of eating...
  13. I agree with the above few posts..and if it was a couple of days after writing the original post..that means you went ut and ate those things on about 26th August..today is only 30th..my symptoms can take anythng up to three weeks to appear if I get 'gluten poisoned' as I call it. If you have been diagnosed then you do have coeliac. Liek Shay said....
  14. My symptoms can vary in the time they appear anywhere between a dau or two to three weeks. I have been off gluten now for 5 and a half years so I can pretty much pin point when I get ill to what I have eaten. My reaction time is much quicker if the gluten is in liquid form..like a reaction to the malt in vinegar for instance..but then also subsides...
  15. I'm in the UK so the situation may be different where you are..but in the UK you can only get prescription foods if diagnosed as Coeliac or wheat intolerant.. The only tests I could have was a set of biopsies..even then only 3 were ok to test but I came back negative. Luckily I was given a diagnosis of wheat intolerance so I do have prescription foods....
  16. You should go get biopsies done. (In the UK this involves eating the equivalent to 4 slices of bread a day for 6 weeks prior to the biopsies being done..then they take 4 biopsies to test) In the US I believe they take more biopsies..and I did see on one post from a long term member on here that the length of time to eat the 'evil' foods is 3 weeks, not...
  17. Hello, Newbie here..was browsing for some forums for a friend on coeliac (I'm an undiagnosed Coeliac with wheat intolerance too). I spotted tis thread and just wanted to add something..Quaker oats are oats so have gluten in them..they are part of the four nasties..Wheat, oats, barley and rye. Also the cheerios have wheat in them so will also contain...
