ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)
kkcarlton replied to AliB's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Hi Dawn - I had to reduce mine in 2.5 mg increments also and I was on 20 mg a day so I feel for you. It is very hard since your adrenals tend to be suppressed and then have to start working again. What about supporting your adrenals otherwise as you taper off with B5, licorice, etc. or a multi-supplement like Michael's Adrenal Xtra (Open Original Shared Link... -

OK, thank you. I am going to read a little more about Neem. I am taking so many things already. I want to get better, but I wonder if there isn't something else going on like SIBO, ileocecal valve syndrome, or other. Can anybody suggest a good digestive enzyme? Renew Life DigestMore Ultra seems good but SO expensive. -

Got another question - I am getting ready to order some digestive enzymes. The one I found says it has vegetable polysaccharides as a filler. Is that ok on SCD? Kristina -

So you took the TheraNeem Leaf Capsules? I may give that a try. DMarie - I took Cortef for a little while and it IS hard coming off of it. Have you had your other homones checked like estrogen, progesterone, DHEA, and testosterone? Mostly progesterone? Most of us have too much estrogen and when stressed, progesterone, which is a pre-cursor to cortisol... -

How did you take the NEEM? What form is it in? I think I have NEEM essential oil. Not sure if it's for consumption or not. I did have really bad disbyiosis on a test in January - C. Diff, toxoplasmosis, low good bacteria, high bad bacteria and more. Now reading the SCD book I can see where my occasional cheats may have made that worse although I was taking... -

In the past fasting has not helped but back then I think the distention was hormonal. Now I am not sure and Sunday I was going to try and fast. -

I just want to cry. I feel even worse this morning - still abdominal distention (day 25 today), very little energy, and swollen eye lids. Where do I go from here and what do I do without insurance? I am so depressed about all this. I make it through the day taking L-Tryptophan, L-Tyrosene, and DLPA to keep my mood up. I checked my blood sugar this morning... -

Hi ShayFL, I just had that checked, too. I don't think I posted it though so thank you for mentioning it. I am trying to rule everything out and I am slowly running out of money. They just found an ovarian cyst of 1.2 cm so no big deal. I'll keep plugging away. Something will eventually have to change. Kristina -

Hi AliB, Thank you for the post...but I am already familiar with it and taking Betaine HCl with Pepsin. Back in 2003/2004 I would have a distended stomach by mid-day. fluid retention, a lower backache, and fatigue. After seemingly endless searches a doctor told me about HCl. I tried it thinking it wouldn't help but it did so I have been taking it ever... -

There is something else I wanted to ask. It has been suggested to me to cleanse my liver and gallbladder and also to do an intestinal cleanse. This would involve juice and broth fasting along with taking supplements that contain ground psyllium mixed with apple pectin, citrus powder, and ginger. I have read that ground psyllium is NOT good for people with... -

Hi All, The ultrasound showed a few cholesterol deposits in my gallbladder and that's it. I am almost disappointed because I would really like to have an answer why my stomach is distended 24/7. In addition I have gone from a size 9 to a size 13 and it's hard to maintain my weight, let alone lose weight. I got the book today and will start reading it tonight... -

Hi, I had a colonoscopy in June and absolutely nothing showed up so I would think it's higher up. We'll see what they find tomorrow if anything. Kristina -

It's so nice to read posts by people who have been helped by the SCD. Basically I think I am already avoiding the foods that the book says to avoid, but I ordered it and can't wait to get it. I was hoping it would have gotten here today but it didn't. I also just found out that I have a mass somewhere in my abdomen. A doctor in August ordered an abdominal... -

Hi Mia, I am from Germany - a small town called Rechtenbach just north of Frankfurt (close to Giessen and Wetzlar). Is the curd cheese you are talking about "Quark"? If so, I love it but I am lactose and casein intolerant. I also don't live in Germany anymore but go back to visit my mom as often as I can. So you found a doctor who is familiar with gluten... -

I read that psyllium is not good for people with digestive issues but can't remember why. What works for me is 1,000 mg magnesium citrate at bed time and keeping my fat intake up. About 60 % of my diet is from fat, maybe 10% from veggies, and the rest from protein. With that I have a bowel movement every morning. Sometimes I do a coffee enema preceded by... -

I have not been tested for celiac disease, however, I have not eaten out in weeks and all my food is fresh - nothing canned, packaged, frozen, etc. I buy chicken, beef, etc. from a farm that pastures their animals, I buy fresh veggies, and I use olive oil, coconut oil, etc. When I am distended from food it usually goes away the next morning and then reappears... -

Thank you all for your kind welcome and for all the suggestions. I will look into the SCD some more. There are many foods I don't tolerate but I find it almost impossible to identify exactly which ones they are. I never noticed an actual reaction to gluten. I don't have diarrhea but am constipated however it's the same now as it was when I did eat gluten... -

I rotate chicken, beef, lamb, venison, ostrich, pork, salmon, turkey, and sometimes other fish like flounder or orange roughy. -

Thank you all for the info. As far as I can tell I don't eat any illegal foods. I eat protein, veggies, fat, and sometimes nuts. Only sour apples and not every day and usually not a whole apple at once. -

Great - thank you. Incidentally I just got my order of probiotics. I stopped taking probios last year because I kept having such a strong reaction to them. That was stupid. Maybe getting rid of the gut dysbiosis will help with my hormonal imbalance, too. Edited: OK, I looked at the list of foods on pecanbread.com. I was told with food intolerances... -
Hi, I wanted to chime in on the Elisa tests. Someone on this thread said there are a lot of false POS and NEG. I got those tests for years. Sometimes foods would show up that I already knew I reacted to and then there were also foods that I was supposedly intolerant to where I never noticed a reaction but I eliminated them anyhow. Then last year I got...

Hi All, The SCD was recommended to me and I was wondering if I have to buy the book or is the list of foods somewhere online? I think I am already avoiding everything I am supposed to since I live on protein, veggies, and fat mostly. Occasionally I'll have 1/4 to 1/2 of a sour apple, and sometimes I have some raw nuts (which I should probably soak). ... -
Hi GlutenWrangler (great name) - thank you for the reply. That makes me feel better about the fact that I got them because they certainly are not cheap. Where do you buy yours? Also, do you or did you have food intolerances and if so, did you see improvements when using Healthy Trinity? thanks ~ Kristina
-
Thanks - I ended up ordering Healthy Trinity by Natren. The probiotics in it are cultured on garbanzo beans - no dairy, soy, or gluten used anywhere in the process. It got great reviews. We'll see how it goes.
