  1. Is Chex cereal not available in Canada or is it just my small city that doesn't have it. I remember eating it as a kid but never thought about it until my son was diagnosed and everyone in the US is talking about Chex cereal! Is there any way we can petition them to sell it here too?? LOL! What other "normal" cereals are there in Canada that are gluten...
  2. I noticed their other bars had Oat listed in the ingredients but this one doesn't. Any help would be appreciated. I hope the link lets you zoom in on it a bit. Kathy
  3. I am wanting to insert a picture of the ingredients to have it double checked by the pros on here and it won't allow me to browse my computer files to select a photo. Why is this? Why must we insert a URL? Or is there something I'm doing wrong? I am clicking on the picture icon and then it tells me to insert URL.
  4. My son was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in 2004 and is in the process of being diagnosed with Celiac now. He has no symptoms of Celiac and was only caught last year when his Celiac screening (endo screens all the Type 1 kids) TTG came back high. THey scoped, it was negative. They did the genetic tests and he has both genetic markers. Did another TTG...
  5. I myself do not have Celiac and I have the same problem. I get to wear nice loose clothing (Scrubs) at my daytime job and then if I have to work at the community pharmacy later, I must change into slacks and dressier top. I am usually in so much pain by the end of the night due to bloating and the tighter waist (I even look pregnant). If I'm at home in...
  6. I made the original recipe listed at the start of the thread. I didn't have almond meal so I put almonds in the blender and used that. Put it in a 500mL glass measuring cup and cooked it on high for 85 seconds. I sliced it horizontally so we got circular pieces and then I put Nutella in between and we both ate it I have to admit I have to play with...
  7. HE ATE IT!! HE ATE IT!! HE ATE IT!! I made this simple recipe in literally 3 minutes from start to finish in a glass pyrex measuring cup. I put it in the fridge to cool for a minute afterwards and then cut it into 4 slices. I made nutella sandwiches with it and HE ATE IT!! My son, 9, who will be going gluten free after his scope in July actually ate...
  8. I'm just so frustrated!! I had to wait 4 weeks to get the TTG results for my son and once I finally got them was told they wanted to re-scope. No kidding, with a TTG of +>222.6 (normal being <20). I was told I'd hear back from the OR booking department at Children's Hospital within a week or two. Today is 3 weeks and I have left 2 messages on their...
  9. I am SOOOOOOOOOO glad to hear this! Our son is in the process of being diagnosed. He also has type 1 diabetes which is hard enough on him as it is. We decided that our whole family would go gluten free. My daughter, 5, does not have Celiac (that we know of yet, haven't had test results back yet) but she has extreme behavior like you have mentioned. I...
  10. Since finding out my son likely (99.9% chance just waiting for official scope/biopsy in June) has Celiac, I've been trying to make a bread that tastes and looks like normal bread. We have until mid June to prepare for the gluten free diet so I'm trying everything in advance to make sure we're ready to go! I finally just made my first ever loaf of bread...
  11. I have tried many many bread recipes over the last few weeks and ALL have turned out disasters. Not one of them rised like they should have and they were basically all blobs of hot dough in the end. I found a tip from someone that they blend the dough (hand mixer) for 4 minutes after it's all mixed together. I tried it this time.....it wasn't easy, but...
  12. Oh Darn it!! I just used potato flour when it asked for potato starch Hope my bread turns into something edible! Thanks Kathy
  13. I've seen lots of recipes ask for Potato Starch but all I have found is Potato Flour. Is there a difference or is it the same thing? Also, Tapioca Flour and Tapioca Starch. Same thing? Thanks, I'm new to this and am still learning Kathy
  14. The reason I wanted to make her go gluten free is b/c we are all going to do it and I feel her behavior may improve on a gluten free diet. I actually won't be surprised to find out she has it too just b/c of her behavior. I know this could be the behavior of any child but her outbursts at home are not normal in my opinion. She will just freak out at the...
  15. Would like to know which are OK. Thanks Kathy
  16. I've been fine since hearing the results of my son's latest TTG. It is so high they said he has Celiac but we are still waiting to hear when the scope will be for official diagnosis (I'm not fighting it, want to make sure ulcers have healed since last year too). So here we wait....one, for the call to set up the scope, and two, for the big gluten free day...
  17. I'm new to this and I'm wondering if Nutella is safe. It has sugar, modified palm oil, hazelnuts, cocoa, skim milk powder, whey powder, soy lecithin, and vanillin. I have found a few of the ingredients on the safe list but a few aren't on either list. Also, I'm trying to teach my son to look up the ingredients (he's 9) on the lists. For Corn Pops...
  18. EGG NOG Lattes......boo hoo I guess on the bright side that's about a million calories NOT going to my rear end several times a week during Xmas season. I wonder if one day I can truly break my coffee addiction completely. Thanks for the help! Kathy
  19. I drink Tim Horton's coffee with 1 cream and 1 splenda all the time. Are the gluten free? What about White Chocolate Mocha's made with skim milk at Starbucks? How about Caramel Machiato (sp??) made with skim milk at Starbucks? And of course my beloved xmas drinks at Starbucks....Egg Nog Latte's and Gingerbread Latte's? Need to know otherwise I might...
  20. My son's TTG was so high (222.6 with normal being under 20...he has been steadily rising over the last year) that we have been told he has Celiac and they want to scope for official diagnosis. They are booking for sometime in early June so we have until then to enjoy our normal lives with just Type 1 diabetes in the mix. I need to know everything we need...
  21. Update: We received the results the other day for my son and his TTG has gone up much higher again to +222.9 it said. I don't know if that's as high as the test reads and it means he could be much higher but it had the + sign in front of it. Normal is under 20. I spoke with the GI Clinic nurse and she said the doc wants to rescope him. I then asked her...
  22. Well, we got out bad news yesterday......he has Celiac History: screened for Celiac b/c of Type 1 diabetes, no symptoms at all, TTG came back 95 (normal under20), had a scope, negative but had ulcers, treated ulcers x 6 weeks, had another TTG (6 months after first and 2 months after scope) even higher at 149. Also positive for both genes. Waited another...
  23. Oh, also ask for the genetic marker tests. We had it done on our son and he has both markers. That does not mean he has or will have Celiac. What the test will tell you is you will NOT have Celiac if you don't carry any of the genetic markers. Kathy
  24. My son, 9, type 1 diabetic also, was tested last year and his TTG was 95 (normal under 20). He has no symptoms that we can see and his scope came back negative. They discovered duodenal ulcers and thought maybe that was causing the high TTG. Anyways, we treated the ulcers then the TTG was repeated and it came back 149!! This was 6 months after the first...
  25. Hi, I'm wondering if anyone noticed a change in food absorption time after being diagnosed with Celiac and going gluten-free. My son has not been diagnosed YET but I do notice foods like pasta (with plain spaghetti sauce), rice, and potatoes take a long time to hit his blood sugars. We will bolus the actual carb amount at supper yet he will spike around...
