ARCHIVED Gluten-related Infertility Means Celiac?
Bell replied to mhb's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I think we lost a few posts here. I know I wrote to say I'd seen my GP who claimed to have never heard of the connection between celiac and fertility. Hrumphh. Interesting since I'd told him myself a few weeks earlier when I first came in after the blood test. He has promised to ask other experts for me and get back if it seems necessary, which does feel... -
ARCHIVED Uk Celiacs - How To Find An Informed Gp
Bell replied to Bell's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Thanks, you're right. I suppose in big surgeries, at least you can find out a little bit about each doctor, and try different one out. I'm trying to make an appointment with a different one regarding a celiac related issue, although I know he has also missed my symptoms for years! Now I just want to be referred to the right specialists. At this point, persistence... -
ARCHIVED Gluten-related Infertility Means Celiac?
Bell replied to mhb's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I do remember that my FSH levels were normal (over a year ago, though), which suggests against premature ovarian failure. I have made an appointment with my doctor again, and will mention all this. I'll tell him I want to get pregnant right away, and hope this gets things moving. Thanks for the research - it scares me to death though. I have been off work... -
ARCHIVED Uk Celiacs - How To Find An Informed Gp
Bell posted a topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
My GP isn't bad exactly, but the UK posters here have reinforced my suspicion that it's hard to find out what you are entitled to over here. I feel, like others, that I've been fobbed off for years by ill-informed doctors, or worse, ones that simply knew the exact allowances of their budget. Does it even work like that? I'm guessing it does, because my blood... -
ARCHIVED Gluten-related Infertility Means Celiac?
Bell replied to mhb's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Oh heck. I live in Britain, and our doctors are really reluctant to send you for test or do anything that costs money. Do you think I should push for something like that? I don't even know if it would be available. I do wish I'd bothered the doctors more along the way. I always felt like I was a hypochondriac. It was like groundhog day every time I went... -
ARCHIVED Gluten-related Infertility Means Celiac?
Bell replied to mhb's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I only just saw this post, after seeing you mention infertility in another thread, mhb. I have wondered about this too -you know it was only reading online by chance that amenorrhea can be caused by celiac disease that sent me back to considering it, years after a previous self diagnosed (and not very thorough) attempt at living gluten free for digestive... -
ARCHIVED What Veggies Are We Likely To Be Intolerent To?
Bell posted a topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I have a suspicion for myself that I don't digest mushrooms and cabbage and onions, though I'm not sure yet. Every time I have them (and I love them) I feel sick, and later poo them out almost undigested. (or occasionally vomit) Is this connected to my innards being affected by celiac, or is it something seperate? I hope it's something that resolves with... -
ARCHIVED Relationship W/ A "non-gluten-free" Person
Bell replied to ashylu929's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I'm glad this thread started up! I've been with my partner for 5 years, and he is very supportive of my new diagnosis. But in a way it's a different thing if you've met someone and introduce yourself from the start as being a tremendously attractive and witty person who happens to have celiac disease and is coping just fine thankyou, and presents a completely... -
ARCHIVED Celiac? Left Side Abdominal Pain, Sharp Chest Pain And More >>
Bell replied to jb1119's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I don't know about the spleen - and my pain is behind my ribs, but I got it today a few hours after a greasy lovely omelette, and then a few hours later 2 little coconut macaroons. Could it be related to fat? How do we know? BTW both times I've had it since this thread began it's been followed by painless (no cramping) diarrhea. ?? -I had been gardening... -
ARCHIVED I'm In A Quandary! (sp?)
Bell replied to Bell's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm beginning to feel less emotional about it now! I can certainly see the point of having the biopsy, regardless of its ability to confirm the celiac diagnosis. My gran died of some kind of stomach/bowel cancer, my nephews and nieces have allergies, my mum has a whole host of auto-immune diseases, my dad some kind of severe IBS that he won't talk about... -
ARCHIVED I'm In A Quandary! (sp?)
Bell replied to Bell's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thank you all, it's so informative on this forum. I would otherwise feel completely at sea. I am still unsure about how to proceed from here. I know it's a good idea to have the endoscopy, but eating gluten until then.... another matter entirely. It's not just feeling a bit rubbish while eating gluten as you all know. It's the sense of absolute mayhem... -
ARCHIVED I'm In A Quandary! (sp?)
Bell posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
First, I live in the UK, where I know the first advantage of the biopsy is that I get - woohoo!-some vouchers for gluten-free food. But I have had a positive blood test (antibodies, not sure which one) and have felt MUCH better being gluten free for the past month. I've got an appt with a consultant next month, who I suppose will probably book me for a... -
ARCHIVED Another Newbie
Bell replied to dsylve914's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I don't know the answer, because I'm a newbie too, but I read somewhere on this board that testing positive for an allergy to wheat or rye or other gluteny grains is unconnected to testing positive for celiac disease. I didn't quite understand it myself, but could anyone else explain? It was written in the opposite context of testing negative for an allergy... -
ARCHIVED New Here 12 Yr Old With Eating Disorder And Positive Igg
Bell replied to desccc's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It's an interesting point that there's no such thing as a false negative with bloodwork. The only advantage I can see (in the UK at least, and perhaps with insurance) is that the addition of a biopsy diagnosis allows us Brits to get some vouchers for gluten-free food. Personally I can easily live without "fake" bread, pancakes, porridge, etc and have something... -
ARCHIVED Celiac? Left Side Abdominal Pain, Sharp Chest Pain And More >>
Bell replied to jb1119's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I got it again yesterday night, after glutening myself (on purpose! just to see!) and the pain came back just as before. It's sharp, when I breathe in, in the middle of the ribs. It makes me gasp, because I forget it's going to happen and then sigh... OW! -
Thanks for the bannana bread recipe. I'm staying with my partner's family this christmas, and have only recently been diagnosed... poor things are already worrying about how to feed me. It will be wonderful to turn up with a big treat for us all, and one that tastes fantastic too. More recipes please! Bell

ARCHIVED When A Recipe Asks You To Make A Roux
Bell replied to Gibbo's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I've found that rice flour is fantastic, though not quite as smooth. You also don't need any butter to keep it lump-free, although it benefits from the rich & creaminess of it. Your superfine variety should be great. -
The brain fog has been one of my worst symptoms. Is it possible that some other things that give me the fog when I'm eating gluten maybe don't if I'm not? I mean if my gut has healed, perhaps I can eat a spicy nutmeggy gluten free biscuit or bit of mulled wine and not go completely blank-brained for a day or two? BTW it's actually kind of nice in its own...

ARCHIVED Iron Deficiency Anemia & Celiac Disease
Bell replied to milelj's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My mum has had chronic anemia for years. She also has an auto-immune disease called lichen sclerosis and sometimes alopecia and before the menopause she had awfully heavy periods, as well as painful fibroids. Her twin sister had severe Dermatitis and tested positive for allegies to many foods, which I'm pretty sure she can now eat again. I've only had a positive... -
ARCHIVED Big Appetite Anyone?
Bell replied to milelj's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Since going Gluten free, my appetite finally feels "normal". Before, I'd either not want to eat at all, or sometimes when I did eat, I would start to feel all wrong (sort of tension) inside, and actually feel extra hungry AFTER eating. I am assuming it was gluten related because it hasn't happened at all since about 2 weeks after going gluten free. I used... -
ARCHIVED Since Going gluten-free I'm Sleeptalking!
Bell replied to Bell's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
About 3.5 weeks so far. I've had other strange reactions - eczema got worse, then better, brain fog gradually getting better (Yippee!) lots of phlegm, which seems to be going now, strange changes in appetite, skin in general feels VERY soft, which is lovely. I find the detox symptoms fascinating because they suggest that parts of our bodies were affected... -
ARCHIVED Since Going gluten-free I'm Sleeptalking!
Bell posted a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Mostly I'm sleeping far better. I used to wake up insanely early, so I am grateful for the increased amount of sleep I get now. But at night I'm waking my partner up, rambling about nonsense. The worst thing is, I half wake up, am confused and try to clumsily justify my previous bit of nonsense with my half awake brain and end up feeling sillier the next... -
ARCHIVED Celiac? Left Side Abdominal Pain, Sharp Chest Pain And More >>
Bell replied to jb1119's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It's probably not useful, but I get the pain too. I'd always thought it was gas, but it's very sharp, and in both my chest and abdomen at the same moment. I get it sometimes all of a sudden when I bend over. Your symptoms must make you feel really worn down by them. I can't believe you've had no luck with your doctor. Maybe have a look at who else is available... -
It also feels shameful to reject food, even though it makes us sick. Maybe you are aware of possible reactions from other people? spitting food isn't the same as saying a genteel "no thankyou". It is an action that shows fear to the people around us. It makes us feel ashamed and vulnerable, and other people, well whatever they really do think, we all have...

Thank you, I've ordered both! xx
