  1. I just got my bloodwork back from my primary care dr. She said negative for celiac, much to her surprise and mine. I have read on this Forum that a person might get a false negative for celiac if they are IgA deficient. How would I know if I were IgA deficient???? Thanks for any help you can give - I have a GI appt. at the end of the week. Nicole
  2. Hi David, I thought stool testing could be used as part of a diagnosis of celiac. I've seen others on here write about Enterolab regarding stool samples. Now I'm curious! Nicole
  3. David, Thank you for your post. This is exactly what I was looking for! Your story (after so many visits to unhelpful doctors) can really help me. When I go to my GI and have him look over the bloodwork that my primary care dr. said was negative, I am going to ask about more bloodwork including this gene one you talked about. AND, it's perfect for my...
  4. Actually for me, I am hoping to find out for certain if I have celiac disease. To me there is a difference between seeing a correlation between eating gluten and my GI symptoms and making a choice to avoid gluten and knowing that I MUST be 100% gluten free or else I am doing damage to my small intestine. Also, I have a two year old son. I'd like to...
  5. Well...I thought I had celiac disease. My primary care dr. did too. In fact, I got a call from a nurse that the testing was positive. Well...there was an error (wrong person's bloodwork it seems). The nurse from my primary care physician's office just called me and told me my bloodwork is all back in and it is negative for celiac disease. I asked...
  6. Hi - I just joined two days ago when I got my diagnosis and started to be gluten-free. So far I've just been eating fresh veggies, fresh fruits, fresh meats and fish. I bought a gluten free salad dressing. I'd like to mix up a salad for myself for lunches this week. I'll put some chicken in it, but wondered about black olives (from a can) and chick peas...
  7. I'm new here and had not realized people actually replace kitchen items when diagnosed with celiac disease. I understand about Teflon pans. I'm wondering if dishes and silverware are believed to be safe from cross contamination if they are put in the dishwaher. People talked about not using the same toaster, colander, pots and pans...but what about for...
  8. Hi, I'm new here - just diagnosed Thursday and just started gluten-free lifestyle. My symptoms actually started this past July, but I believed it was a bout of IBS (for which I had been symptom-free since 2005) due to being about to return to work after being home with my son for two years - and having to then put him in daycare. Anyhow, I assumed...
  9. Thanks for the info. on soy sauces. Regarding our long "pregnancy" our paperwork was officially logged in in China on March 6, 2008 (that's after 6 months of paperwork, social work visits. etc.) and our wait is about 22 months (from log in date) and that is actually SHORT because we are being expedited because my husband is Chinese/born in HK. For people...
  10. Hi, I was just diagnosed on Thursday with Celiac. I started the gluten free lifestyle on Saturday (after a delicious homemade lasagna and bread on Friday - my "last supper" of my old life!). Anyhow, my doctor had advised me to also cut out all dairy for the time being as it can be hard to digest while the villi are damaged from the gluten. Darn it - he...
  11. Thank you all for the suggestions and information you have shared with me so far. I'm a teacher and on vacation next week, so planning to sort through the pantry and fridge. I told my husband he has about a month to use up the gluten foods (mostly pastas and crackers) in our pantry. My husband gave me this very nice labelling device for Christmas which...
  12. Thank you all for your suggestions and information you have shared. Having just been diagnosed, just standing in the grocery store seems overwhelming, and then when my husband asked about the trip to China next year, I thought Oh No, what am I going to do? So your suggestions are much appreciated. We won't know what part of China our daughter is from...
  13. I was just diagnosed with Celiac on Thursday. Obviously this is life-changing, and I'm trying not to get overwhelmed , and I realize it is manageable (as all of you are proof of). However, we are adopting a daughter from China and will be traveling to China for two weeks next year around this time. Now I was already worried about traveling halfway around...
  14. I'm new here. Just received my diagnosis. I'm curious how people have coped with meals at home when there is a family involved. Seems easiest (for me!) to convert our household to gluten free for meals. Then, I would just be making one meal, rather than one for the family, separate one for me. However, I'm questioning this as we have a two year old who...
