  1. Hi, Did you go to the show? I went and found it quite interesting. It was nice to be able to just snack and not worry about things not being gluten-free. I ate way too much I knew about most of the products there but did get a few surrpises which was good and I also got to taste some things whichI havent bought up until now because they were expensive...
  2. Mushroom - that definately sounds like an interesting lunch!!
  3. Hello again Mushroom! you were so helpful last time I was here so thank you! My kids are all in the process of being tested atm, but my own siblings have been blaise about it. I guess being the first in our entire family has people feeling like I am the black sheep or something! My youngest is coming along quite well, he's now 6 . He has a diagnosis...
  4. Hi everyone, I'm back after a probably not so notable absence! I have a biopsy confirmed diagnosis of Celiac along with the confirmation of DQ2 & DQ8 genes and have been gluten-free for just over 3 weeks. I'm not struggling with my day to day cooking, but I'm very confused about label reading and so far have just stuck by the "if you can't confirm...
  5. I was wondering if anyone has a medical bracelet and if they have mentioned the need for Gluten free on it? What about in your wallet/purse? In your car? It just occurred to me yesterday that I have a sticker stating that my son is non verbal and has Autism for if we are in a car accident and I started wondering about gluten-free. Would the need for...
  6. I have 3 children and the pre-eclampsia has gotten worse with each pregnancy. I delivered my first 2 children (now aged 18 & 17) at 39 weeks. My last child (aged 5 ) was born at 29 weeks weighing 958 grams. Both of us were at deaths door. He was IUGR and required 11 weeks in a NICU. I think the reason my first 2 pregnancies were able to last so long...
  7. Thanks everyone. I'm still in two minds about it although I am leaning towards not having it done more than having it done. I am going to see my GP again and also a naturopath so things might be a bit clearer after that. I have also come across a dietician who has celiac herself so if I can get in to her i think it will be money well spent.
  8. Georgie thanks for the link - I will join up but I think I need a yahoo ID first by the look of it? I'm about to head off to work so I'll check it on it tonight. I've woken up with the worst flu like symptoms today - no sign of it yesterday and unfortunately this is the busiest day on my calendar. I'm a sales rep and this promotion comes up every 6 weeks...
  9. anyone?
  10. Georgie, I've actually just done a post regarding this in another thread. I'm not sure I even want to go through a biopsy. I'd rather just get some good advice and change my diet. Waiting for some feedback as to the pros and cons. I guess part of my concern is the doctor who diagnosed me making the comment "Oh, just as I thought, you are celiac..........
  11. Hello, looking for some thoughts/opinions similiar to a post that was just done about further testing (I didn't want to hijack that thread). I was diagnosed approximately 3 weeks ago. I cant get into a gastroenterologist for another 3 weeks, and then it would probably be another 3-4 weeks before he can do a biopsy. I am, after reading up a bit on Celiac...
  12. Breakfast is definitely a metabolism kicker - don't miss out on it. It must contain protein (as should all meals) to kickstart your day. I would not include protein in my snacks at all as your body really needs about 5 hours to digest protein. Having meals sooner means that your body may hold onto the undigested protein and convert it to fat. Maybe you could...
  13. Mushroom - I had my sons pediatrician runs a whole series of blood tests about 6 months ago - celiac was on the panel and he tested negative. Funnily enough Celiac was one of the tests I insisted on for him. I have tried to try to make his diet as gluten free as possible anyway. My 17 yr old daughter was tested yesterday, so hopefully we will hear something...
  14. I have suffered from swollen lymph nodes on and off for about 12 months. I was looking at having a lymphatic drainage massage.....got put on the backburner because I simply have been well enough to go for one. This forum is definitely a learning curve!
  15. Mushroom, I should clarify my first marriage was almost 20 years ago (I married at 19). I have two children from that marriage who are now 17 & 18. My 5 yr old is from my 2nd relationship. I suffered PND after my 1st two children (got no help) but funnily enough despite the stresses of having a premature baby i did not suffer PND this last time around...
  16. I have lost jobs because I simply couldn't put the effort in anymore. I have never been fired, but have always quit at that moment where it was obvious that i could no longer hide the fact i couldn't put in even a modicum of effort. I used to work as a family law paralegal but had to leave this job when my son was born prematurely at 29 weeks. After his...
  17. Liz, I'm not sure if this is totally left of centre from what you are looking for but have you heard of NAET therapy? I've used this for 5yr old ( not celiac) for help with some allergies (he was allergic to casien in milk). It's definitely one of those therapies that you look at and go "hmmm" but sometimes you are willing to try things that might not be...
  18. Thanks again Mushroom - lots of food for thought. My next visit is to the gastroenterologist so I guess that's something I can bring up with about (about my gluten intake). I am wondering whether a trip to a dietitian might be helpful although I tend to find that a good forum is more than adequate if you get some good advice. I'm about 2 hours from the...
  19. Mushroom, I maybe only eat bread once a week (if that). I tend to eat rice cakes, rice crackers, lots of potato chips, but no cake, biscuits and no rice/pasta. I suspect the gluten I am getting is from contamination and the things I haven't really looked into yet (like the gravy, soup, lollies). I make my own homemade pizzas using pita bread, it was just...
  20. Hello Mushroom - Thanks for the clarification re: products. I had suspected that gluten free in one part of the world doesn't necessarily mean that in another. I noticed from reading a few product lists from the U.S and when I went to look at the item here it had gluten........I was thinking "Am I missing something here" (I have a major case of brain fog...
  21. Hello from Victoria! My name is Michelle and I have recently been given a diagnosis of Celiac (through bloodwork). I am waiting a biopsy sometime next month. I'm very lost, confused, and grieving for a friend (aka food) that I haven't even had to give up yet. Very glad to have found a site catering to our end of the world . I'll be trawling through...
