ARCHIVED Sensitivity Vs Celiacs
KarenFe replied to KarenFe's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I finally got a call from my doctor and he said my biopsy was fine and that I do not have celiacs. As mentioned above, my gluten sensitivity test was positive. I will be having a colonoscopy next to see if there is anything else that may be causing my diarrhea. He really has me confused though. He said celiacs is rare and that because it's in the... -
ARCHIVED Looking For A Happy Stomach
KarenFe replied to KarenFe's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Thanks for the reply. Yes, It was Rice Dream I had (and it was for the first time). You and others have problems with Rice Dream? This food selection is tough. I'd think one would be good to go if it was gluten-free and lactose free. I'm still learning. I'll wait a few days and then have eggs again. Hopefully it is the Rice Dream and not eggs. Thanks... -
I have been gluten-free for the last 3 weeks starting the day of my biopsy. I have not had some improvements as I was hopign and decided to go a few days without milk or milk products. Up until dinner I was thinkign my stomach felt "smooth" and "happy." In other words, it did not seem bothered at all today. Then for dinner I had eggs and for dessert some...

ARCHIVED Rapunzel's Vegetable Bullion
KarenFe posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Is Rapunzel's Vegetable bullion cubes (no salt, salt, and herbed) a gluten-free product? I can't find the information anywhere and the contact phone number is non-existent (I get disconnected messages and wrong number recordings). I've heard it's a great product and would like to try the bullion cubes. Thank you, Karen -
I use, and love, Burt's Bees Beeswax Lip Balm. I found this list however am not sure if the Beeswax Lip Balm is gluten-free. It lists the other lip balms as gluten-free, but not Beeswax. Is this a gluten-free product? Their "contact us" web page is down so I can't ask directly. I don't know what the "tube" is either. Is it the hard cylinder I have or...

ARCHIVED Sensitivity Vs Celiacs
KarenFe replied to KarenFe's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thanks everyone. Since almost 2 weeks have passed since my biopsy and I haven't heard anything, I was starting to think all was well. I know I shouldn't do that because they said the test results could take 1 to 3 weeks. You have reminded me that my blood test results are real and they can reveal a lot too. You also reminded me that even small amounts... -
ARCHIVED Sensitivity Vs Celiacs
KarenFe replied to KarenFe's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thanks for the replies. I really appreciate it because I know my questions have been answered here before many times before. Momma Goose, I will check out those links as soon as I finish this post. During the 2 months waiting for my biopsy I did lots of research, but I could certainly have missed something. I have taken the toaster off the counter... -
ARCHIVED Sensitivity Vs Celiacs
KarenFe posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I had my biopsy almost 2 weeks ago and should hear from the doctor soon. His initial evaluation of my stomach and whatever else he saw was that everything he saw looked normal and I showed no typical signs of someone with celiacs. The biopsy will hopefully prove this. If it reveals celiacs, I will know what to do - a full fledged gluten-free diet from... -
ARCHIVED Black Tea
KarenFe replied to KarenFe's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'll have to pay attention to the caffeine possibility. I have coffee, but it's decaf. Except on Mondays when I treat myself to 2/5 caffeine. I haven't noticed any difference on Mondays, but I will be on the lookout now. It could be milk, but I have cream in my coffee. Thanks for the ideas. I'll pay much closer attention to what happens and when with... -
Yesterday I had some black tea (Republic of Tea brand) and immediately my stomach started acting up. On the can it say it's gluten-free as do all the teas I have by this brand. Is it possible to have issues with black tea? It just seems like such an odd thing to give me issues. Thanks, Karen

ARCHIVED Brands Of Certain Products
KarenFe posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It's so hard finding gluten-free brands when I hear certain products often have gluten hiding in them. Could someone recommend some good gluten-free brands for: curry powder dry mustard tomato paste confectioner's sugar brown sugar I'm definitely gluten sensitive and had my biopsy yesterday to see if I have celiacs. It's tough when I think somethign... -
ARCHIVED Masa Harina
KarenFe replied to KarenFe's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I got a very speedy reply (about 20 minutes after I sent my question to them). This is what was said: Good morning: Thank you for your question. MASECA is made from 100% selected corn, and corn is naturally gluten-free. The package has a gluten-free symbol on the panel with the nutritional information. We do not process any... -
ARCHIVED Masa Harina
KarenFe replied to KarenFe's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thank you! I went to the web site: Open Original Shared Link I did not see anything mentioned in the Tortilla Industry section but did find a mention of gluten in the Cracker Industry FAQ section: Does corn masa flour contain gluten? No, corn masa flour is gluten free. This is the product I am looking at: http://www.(Company Name Removed - They... -
I really like making my own corn tortillas from masa harina. Is there any masa that is gluten free? I have searched and searched and can not find any with a statement saying it is a gluten-free product. It seems like a product that would easily be gluten-free. Thank you, Karen

ARCHIVED Purple Jasmine Rice
KarenFe posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I found a recipe that uses this Purple Jasmine Rice that I want to use. Open Original Shared Link The write up about it mentions it being "glutinous" so I wrote the company and asked about it. I got this reply: Thank you for contacting ALTER ECO, Our Purple Jasmine rice is gluten-free. It is indicated on the box that it is glutinous (as in sticky),... -
ARCHIVED I Go To The Gi On Thursday
KarenFe replied to KarenFe's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Searching, I suppose. The blood test I had revealed a "gluten intolerance" with numbers that were high. The nurse who called me with the results said I have celiacs disease, but I know she was a bit ignorant on the issue. She also told me to eat gluten free but I can have gluten if I don't mind feeling a little bad. -
ARCHIVED I Go To The Gi On Thursday
KarenFe posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am going to the GI doctor on Thursday and want to make sure I know everything I need to ask about. I will ask about a biopsy, calcium levels, vitamin D levels, iron pills to take (I am anemic), and my diet. These are good things to ask about, right? Is there anything else I should know to ask or discuss? Thanks so much! Karen -
ARCHIVED Lactose And Casein Intolerance
KarenFe replied to KarenFe's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The yogurt I've been eating is organic, lowfat, and plain flavored. The ingredients say: cultured pasteurized organic lowfat milk, pectin, vitamin D3. Then it says: Contains our exclusive blend of six active cultures including L. Acidophilus, Bifidus, L Casei, and L Rhamnosus. If milk (or icecream) bothers me, I haven't noticed much of a difference... -
ARCHIVED Gi Appointment Next Month
KarenFe replied to TearzaRose's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I can understand why you wouldn't want to go through what you've been through after eating gluten, but from what I've read here, elsewhere on the net, and in a few books, you want your body to be nice and "sick" for any tests. I'm going to my first GI apt on Thursday and have continued to eat gluten containing foods. If your tested and haven't been eating... -
ARCHIVED Lactose And Casein Intolerance
KarenFe posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
This Thursday I have my first GI appointment and hope to get many answers there. I'm trying to figure out why it is I seem to be able to handle drinking milk (in cereal or icecream) yet when I eat yogurt I do not handle it well at all. From what I've read, a person with a lactose intolerance problem may be able to eat yogurt, but my issue seems to be the... -
I just made a double batch of chili and looked at the tomato can ingredients. I assume diced organic tomatoes, the tomato sauce, and tomato paste are all gluten-free. I'm not talking about flavored anything, but just plain diced, sauce, and paste. Am I correct? The ingredients are fairly straight forward, but there's always the one or two ingredients...

My husband and I just celebrated our 18th year anniversary. We had planned on going out to dinner together as we do every year, but the kid's activities postponed our plans. Then I found out I can not have gluten and we have not gone out yet. We really wanted to try this restaurant that has gotten good reviews. I am not sure if there is anything I...
