  1. For years I had all kinds of health problems. My doctors ran test after test and found nothing. They said I just suffered from stress. Turns out that I had a lot of food allergies (as well as TMJ and a hiatal hernia, and required foot surgery - it's amazing how much pain your body can suffer just from a bunion). I pretty-much had to find this all out...
  2. I lost about 10 pounds within a few months of going gluten-free. This usually indicates an allergic response, and that your body was in a constant state of inflammation because it was constantly being exposed to the allergen. Now that the allergen is gone, the body can release all that fluid/mucous that was causing the added weight.
  3. I used to have many of the same symptoms as Punt. Doctors never could diagnose me with anything, even after numerous tests. They just kept saying, "it's stress." Well, after ten years or so, someone (not a Dr.) suggested I might be allergic to wheat/gluten. That was what it was. I dropped the gluten, and felt great right away. I should add that...
  4. The Visicol JoEllen referred to and the 20-pill prep are the same thing. Actually, they're supposedly not marketing it under the name Visicol, anymore, as it is now called OsmoPrep. That's the pill prep I referred to earlier in this thread. HOWEVER, there is what's called a Black Box warning on this prep. It has been known to cause kidney failure...
  5. 18 months!!!!! I just said "To heck with it!" and went gluten-free without the test. I don't have much faith in the medical profession, anyway, and I refused to wait -- and it would have only been a few weeks for me (I'm in the States). I felt so much better after going gluten-free that there was no freakin' way I was going to start eating again just...
  6. Oh, and I'm curious to know how your appt goes today and what your doc says about using the colonic. Hopefully he/she will be receptive to the idea and won't discourage you from getting one, as my doc tried to do with me before admitting that so many other of their patients have them and they work fine for the prep. You know, I'd fast for two days if...
  7. Leiana: I completely agree with you. I have dreaded the colonoscopy for years for the simple reason that I didn't want to do the prep. I'm so glad I learned about this little "secret" that so many doctors don't share with their patients. In my experience, though, doctors aren't big fans of natural remedies. My dad worked in the pharmaceutical business...

    ARCHIVED No Time, No Problem

I've been exercising since I was...well, since forever. I got serious into gym workouts and lifting weights and doing cardio in my late teens, and now I'm 39. I subscribe to a magazine called OnFitness, and they are truly on the cutting edge of what works and what doesn't. This magazine is aimed more at trainers than the every-day average Joe, and since...

    ARCHIVED Post Workout Snacks

As an avid weight lifter for many years, I believe that you take the protein BEFORE and DURING the workout when you're lifting weights (I would only take protein during the workout if you're heavy-duty and lift for a long time), and then you eat a snack of simple carbs AFTER any workout (whether it's lifting or cardio). Simple carbs would be fruit or juice...
  10. More than likely you'll have to get it done elsewhere, but some are fortunate enough to find doctors who perform the colonic and then go right into the colonoscopy. My dream is that someday, all docs who perform colonoscopies will also perform colonics and the lax prep will be a thing of the past, where it SHOULD be. Beware of asking your doc if a colonic...
  11. Everything I've read and seen (and my doctor even told me) says that you need to be back on gluten food for at least a month before getting the endo/colonoscopy to test for Celiac. I know you were only gluten-free for two weeks, but the body could have healed enough to make it a moot point to do the endo/colo right now. I know the worst was over for me...
  12. I also learned today that people who have the worst side effects from a colonic are those who can't relax during the process and are very stressed over it. I guess the tension puts undue stress on the colon, and that's why people can feel nauseous afterward. The more you relax before and during the colonic, the easier the recovery. I'm looking forward...
  13. You're welcome. I continued my colonics research today and found another site where someone stated that doctors who perform colonoscopies are happy with how well colonics clean out the colon before the procedure. One person said that he chose the colonic prep, but that his doctor never offered it as an option - he had to figure it out on his own ...
  14. I think the polyp could cause post-nasal drip. And it will probably continue to grow larger until it is removed. I'd get it out now, because the bigger they get, the rougher the surgery is. I know. Mine were huge and I ended up having bad bleeding after the surgery. And, yes, you'd have to eat "normal" again for at least a month before a test to search...
  15. I went through a rough patch for the first few months after going gluten-free, too, but nothing like the first to posters. My theory is that perhaps your body is finally beginning to work like it should and is still ridding itself of all the inflammation and toxins that had built up over time. This leaves you more susceptible to illness because it's still...
  16. johncgaiser: You both have to give. If she expects you to do all the compromising, it won't work. She needs to understand that with a few precautions, you and the kids can eat gluten-containing foods, and she can eat gluten-free. However, your job is to ensure and re-ensure her that you and the kids ABSOLUTELY WILL NOT CROSS-CONTAMINATE HER FOOD WITH...
  17. I, too, had sinus issues for years and could not figure out why. Here are a few suggestions to look into, as they have helped me: 1) Obviously, gluten. You can't just go "sort of" off it. You're either off it or you're not. When I went gluten-free, it took weeks to completely clear my body. I had drainage out of every orifice as my body released the...
  18. Oh, and the old Phosphosoda/Fleet preps were the worst. I guess people simply couldn't get them down and barfed 'em right back up. Very yucky - the taste, the consistency, everything. Here's my advice if you are set on doing a laxative prep: Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! Probably 2-3 days before your prep, start drinking a ton of fluids/water. Eat...
  19. Some people have a very bad reaction to the laxatives. My dad never vomited, but my mom dry-heaved. I guess it's not uncommon for people to become extremely nauseous with the laxatives and throw up. Some people puke several times for hours. When I was doing my research, I kept reading people's accounts of how the prep made them very sick. Miralax is...
  20. Nadia: There are sooooo many things you CAN eat. When I first went gluten-free a little over a year ago, I wondered the same thing, though. What can I eat? Just start doing research. You can find lists of ingredients to avoid and lists of which ones are safe. I took my lists with me to the store, as well as a gluten-free grocery guide and...
  21. I know that many gluten-intolerant/celiac patients undergo the often-uncomfortable and much-unanticipated colonoscopy prep. I'm sure you all look forward to it about as much as you look forward to having your toenails pried off with tweezers. Maybe there's a more comfortable way to prep that won't make you dread it so much: I was scheduled for a colonoscopy...
