  1. My 10yo daughter came in not too long ago complaining of severe cramping. Cramping to the extent of tears. She has issues with not pooping enough so I asked if it could be that. I wasn't even thinking of food because I thought we were pretty good about avoiding gluten and dairy. Then my 14yo said something about us eating baked oatmeal for breakfast this...
  2. Ooooh!! Thank you!! I knew there was something about needing to add the xanthan or guar, but I couldn't remember how much and if there was anything else. Do you know if they will be approximately the same texture? What I'm really asking is, will I be able to follow those directions for rolling/cutting/baking?
  3. A way to make these Open Original Shared Link with a gluten free flour mixture  If I tried, what adaptations would I need to make?
  4. Two questions. 1) Can you share what you heard about the Rice Dream causing problems? Why, and what kind of problems? This is what we have been using and I had not heard anything negative. 2) If you don't feel that it was causing *you* troubles, do you really need to find another replacement?
  5. I know what you mean about electric!! We are striving to live simply here. Sure, I can go back to hand cranking my mill, though I don't know how I could ever give up my kitchenaid mixer or my food processor! LOL! I think you would be surprised though. I could crank my mill, as could my 13 year old daughter. I'm not saying we cranked fast, or that...
  6. You're right, a coffee grinder isn't going to work for grinding flours. And, there are a lot of different mills out there. You can sometimes find an old hand crank one on garage sales or auctions, that's what we started with. It's a lot more effort to grind your own, but IMO totally worth it. It's much easier to store whole berries in a dry storage, grind...
  7. I'll try to come back with a few more ideas when I have more time, but we are going gluten-free on a budget as well. We are blessed to have chickens that we raise for eggs and meat, we raise our own beef, and have a large organic garden so that does help immensely, however, we still need to keep costs low. We are a part of a couple great food co-ops...
  8. I put our whole family on a gluten-free diet about 3 weeks ago. My hope at the time was that I would see improvements in my three youngest children (11, 3.5, and 19mos), but I was too lazy to try to cook double meals all the time so everyone made the switch. Anyway, my 14 year old daughter is THRILLED because not only has her face cleared up immensely since...
  9. Wow! My 3yo daughter has had her lymph nodes swell off and on for the last year or so! They are swollen again now, along with this fever, 'allergy eyes', tummy aches, etc. I see that Live2BWell mentioned that she had fevers.....maybe this does all have to do with foods! I am SO anxious to get this figured out so I don't have to see my family suffering...
  10. She *was* better most of the morning and early afternoon. Then she became very sleepy again. Soon her fever was creeping back up, her eyes were all red, and her fever was back to 102*. At bedtime she was complaining of her tummy hurting again, and the feeling that she needed to throw up I guess I'll see how she's feeling this morning again. I really...
  11. Updating that this morning she feels better and her temp is normal.
  12. My 3yo daughter was complaining of a stomach ache all day yesterday, and her voice sounded 'groggy'. I chalked it up to post nasal drip, since she has been suffering from seasonal allergies this year. She laid on the couch most of the day, but still got up to play periodically, going outside, etc. By last night she was feeling warm so I took her temp,...
  13. Thank you. Do you think that popcorn is different from 'regular' corn? I had a friend tell me yesterday that her daughter will get diaper rashes from popcorn, but not corn in general. I did add the corn to the sloppy joe, though I picked his out.
  14. I recently changed our families diet to gluten-free/DF, hoping we would see improvements in 3 of our children that have various food issues, one being our 18mo old son. I suspected intolerance to dairy and wheat for him. Since changing over a couple of weeks ago I saw great improvement in his sleeping habits, as well as his stools. I had also had a couple...
