  1. Hi everyone So I've been diagnosed a whole 2 days now. My friends/family/coworkers have all been really supportive so far when I've mentioned it. They all get the obvious stay away from breads/pastas/etc... made with wheat, barley, or rye. But, they don't seem to get that ANY amount of gluten is bad. I was talking to one co-worker about how I think it...
  2. Thanks everyone! I stopped at the store on the way home tonight and was plesantly surprised by the size of the Gluten Free section in my local store-I've been shopping there for 3 years and had NO idea! I stocked up on some of the pamela mixes, pasta, gluten-free cereal (yeah Chex!) and snacky things like crackers. I grabbed a box of cookies-not that I...
  3. I'll be doing the great kitchen cleanout this weekend. What staples should I buy to replace the old staples? Can I get most of this stuff at a normal grocery store (I have a Smiths/Kroger in my town), or do I need to make the trek to Whole foods or Trader Joes. Is there a certain type of flour that works well as a replacement for the general purpose...
  4. Thanks everyone! Yes, I can eat eggs in bread/baked goods without any problem. Same with bananas actually, so maybe I'll have to find a gluten-free banana bread recipe if such a thing exists! Some great ideas to start with. Jennifer
  5. Does anyone have any favorite gluten-free cookbooks. Nothing very fancy, I'm just looking for ideas to replace my old diet!
  6. Thanks! I'll start with limiting dairy also. Is there a general rule of thumb as to how long it takes to heal, or how long I should wait before trying to add dairy back?
  7. I just found out today I tested positive for the antibody tests, so this is very new to me. I went to the grocery store on the way home and think I can tackle dinner pretty easily, but I'm not sure about breakfast and lunch (I noticed there is a lunch thread already!) Normally for breakfast I usually eat either cereal, toast, english muffin, or bagel with...
  8. Hi, I just got some blood work back. Endomysial IgA and transglutaminase both came back positive. Doctor wants me to start a gluten free diet. So obviously breads, flour, grains etc is out , but I'm not sure what else to worry about? Any tips on the adjustment? Jennifer
  9. I had blood for anti-endomyseal AB and anti-transglutanase tests taken today. I also had a few other tests run (CBC, CMP, ESR, TSH, lipids). I received a phone call from my doc this afternoon saying that my TSH was high (I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism several years ago). She didn't mention anything about the other tests, so I'm curious if they are...
