  1. Hi All, I am intolerant to all gluten. I am also sensitive to oats (thats what a naturapathic test showed, though they never seemed to bother me). I know there are "gluten free oats" out there (like Bobs Red Mill and others.) So, is it the actual oat that is gluten or does gluten get into the oats during processing. Very confusing. Would like my oatmeal back but not sure if it would do more harm than good. Any insights?

  3. Hello all, Does anyone have any ideas/recipes for a gluten-free/CF pizza? I have purchased the Amys brand gluten-free/CF rice crust spinach pizza and it is ok. I would like to make my own though. Any recommendations for a good crust or crust mix and also a cheese that is casein free and if at all possible soy free? Any input would be appreciated. Thank you.
  4. Hi, I have been gluten-free/CF free since August of this year. I have just noticed I have vertical ridges on my fingernails. I have heard this could be from a calcium deficiency. Any ideas? I otherwise feel good since eliminating the gluten-free/CF from my diet.

  6. Thank you so much for the info. That is so interesting with the sleep component of taking the calcium/vitd/magnesium. So what is it that helps with the sleep? The ca/mg or the vit D? One of my kids is such a restless sleeper in the first place, makes me wonder if he was deficient before we even went gluten-free/cf.
  7. Hi We have been gluten-free/CF for almost 1 month now. It is going well. My concern is that my children arent getting enough calcium due to the lack of dairy products. I give them the orange juice with the calcium, I put spinach in salads and omelets and even sneak it into fruit smoothies. I try to add some type of leafy green veggie into their diet almost daily. I would like to know if anyone knows of a supplement for children (maybe a multi-vitamin with calcium) or a supplement with just calcium-specifically for children.

    Urticaria And Celiac

    Thank you both for the input. I also have the intolerence to soy and corn as well. I figured I would eliminate gluten and dairy first. Then soy, and then the corn. It seems eliminating gluten and dairy is quite a job but I have been vigilent about it and am doing ok. Soy and corn seem to be in everything. I am avoiding them but havent eliminated them 100% yet. Maybe it is the intolerence to those two as well that could very well be contributing to the hives. I am also taking the multi-vitamins as well as other supplements-b-12, folic, etc.
  9. Hi I have cold induced urticaria. It started six years ago two months after I had given birth to my youngest child. I have never played in the snow with him as I will break out in hives after being exposed to the snow. Or wind or anything under sixty degrees. Or I will get hives if there is a slight breeze. Anyway, I have been searching to find the cause of this until earlier this year when I found a study done in Madrid. Basically it said that in a case of cold induced uticaria, celiac disease should be ruled out. Well, I went to a very reputable naturapathic dr. who found that I have a gluten and dairy intolerence. (as well as soy and corn). I have eliminated all dairy and gluten from my diet since august 5 of this year. After many nights of reading about celiac, I am so convinced I have found the answer to my hives-and that I truly am celiac. My family has a history of lymphoma as well. From what I have been reading, I know I need to be patient and that it could take months or years for my symptoms to clear. (I also developed eczema on my hands while pregnant-then the cold urticaria-then a year later, asthma). I am feeling good since going gluten-free/CF. I sleep really well now, am no longer bloated and have tremendous energy and am no longer lethargic. My question to those of you out there is how long did it take for your symptoms to clear? Has anyone had hives and celiac and has it resolved? After taking a walk this evening in the beautiful midwest in 64 degree temps, I had hives WORSE then ever. I am a bit confused. ( I have been tested for lupus and RA, both negative)

  11. Hi, I have recently figured out with the tremendous help of a naturapathic doctor (and previous family history and syptoms) that I am gluten and dairy intolerant. One of my children is also intolerent of gluten and dairy. We have begun the gluten-free/cf lifestyle/diet in our household of 5. Since eliminating gluten and dairy as of 8/5 of this year, I have been feeling really good. I have had more energy than I have had since my various symptoms began 6 years ago. I have been sleeping better at night and am no longer bloated or lethargic. The one "side effect" (if thats what you would call it) is that both my husband and myself have been experiencing hip pain. Neither of us have ever had hip pain previously. Mine started in the right hip now its both. His is the left hip only. Has anyone experienced this? Could we suddenly be lacking something? I am very consious of making sure we are consuming enough calcium. Any input would be appreciated.
  12. Hello All, I am new to the gluten-free/CF lifestyle...since Aug 5 of this year. I am feeling really good. However, I will be attending a wedding next month and am not quite sure how to handle it. The reception is at a large banquet facility so Im sure everyone will be having the same dinner. Do I just eat before I go? Calling the bride is not an option. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

    School Lunches

    I too am at the same point in time that you are! I am trying to figure out all the lunches X3. So far, I have thought of gluten-free peanut butter and Jelly on a rice cake. Rolled up gluten-free ham or turkey with a side of gluten-free crackers. (They can put the lunch meat on the crackers) Sides of raw veggies or fruit or applesauce. I have also tried gluten-free/CF waffles toasted with PB&J (they love that one) I know PBJ can get redundant but my kids will also eat almond butter and jelly. Or PB with banana slices on a waffle or rice cake. My kids also love the enjoy life snickerdoodles and kinickkinick(sp?) donuts ( you can cut in half-one is usually too much) for the occasional lunchtime sweet treat. For drinks yes we mainly do H20 but you can also do one of the 100% juices that are out there. Let me know if you can come up with more ideas and I will do the same. Oh I have also asked my kids if they would be up to an occasional hard boiled egg and they all said that would be fine. ( we like the cage free with omega 3's) Anyway, let me know what you come up with and I will keep you posted as well.
