  1. Hi, I'm new to the gluten-free diet. I'm trying to heal up a horrible rash that looks and acts like DH, but which has given me negative biopsies. I've been gluten-free for a little more than two weeks. The rash began to heal beautifully after I started the diet, but in the past few days, I have broken out all over my body. Again. Sigh. I'm miserable. I'm...
  2. Finally heard back about my 5th skin biopsy for DH. It was done correctly this time, taken from healthy skin near a lesion on my bum, and immunoflourescence to look for IgA was used. Result: negative for DH. Tissue taken from actual lesion came back as lichen simplex chronicus. Dermatologist said this was an eczema-like rash. NOT TRUE, as I found from a simple...
  3. I don't know much about shingles, but perhaps this site will help you. It has a description and some pictures. I think (but could be wrong) that a shingles rash will be one-sided, unlike DH, which tends to occur symmetrically on the body. HTH! Open Original Shared Link Michelle in Tn
  4. So I went back to the Derm. today to get my FOURTH biopsy results for this DH like rash. Normal tissue sample came back as, shocker, normal tissue. Sample taken from lesion came back as eczema. But then the doctor noticed that it didn't specifically say that immunoflourescence was used on the samples to test for DH. So she calls the pathology lab to check...
  5. Given the role iodine plays in DH, I'm trying to reduce my intake. I have always taken a daily fish oil supplement to get the good omega 3 fatty acids. I use a high-quality product (Nordic Naturals), and as I checked it's gluten-free status yesterday on the bottle, I noticed that it said not to take it if you are allergic to iodine. I'm assuming the fish...
  6. Thank you, Ravenwood...I did find that article, printed it up, highlighted the section on proper biopsy, and took it to the doctor. She barely glanced at it (Grrrrrrr....), but she DID listen to my whole story, agreed to do a biopsy of unaffected skin and perilesional skin on my bum, and sent it to a lab better known for doing DH biopsies. It's the best I...
  7. I decided to try and get one last biopsy of my skin done. The last one done for DH was done incorrectly (taken from lesion directly instead of from unaffected skin near lesion), and I just have to try one more time to see if I can get a correct biopsy and a positive result. I'm nutso, I guess. It's still bothering me that I've embarked on the GFD without...
  8. Mmmmm...you're making my mouth water! LOL! I can't wait until I'm proficient enough at gluten-free cooking to be able to make all the things you're describing. For now, as I start out, I'm just sticking with whole, unprocessed, naturally gluten-free foods, and some store-bought things. Wish me luck! Michelle in TN
  9. Thanks so much for the replies. Now I know that I need to commit to this for several months. I finally got all of my personal care items gluten-free today, after two different trips out and tons of online research. Very frustrating and very expensive to switch everything over. Ugh. But if I'm going to do it, I'm doing it all the way. I hope that going gluten...
  10. I've decided to take the plunge, go gluten-free, and hope that this DH-like rash will disappear. Question is, how long should I give it? A month? 3 months? Longer? Can others please share how long it took to see healing of the rash after going gluten-free? I'm not taking any other meds for it, and I'm even putting off acupuncture treatments so I can see what...
  11. Bev, THANK YOU! That's exactly the information I needed, and I appreciate you sharing your footwork with me. I'm trying to get gluten-free as quickly as possible in order to STOP ITCHING with this DH. But I don't have all the time I need to thoroughly research everything I eat. I wish that there was a book that had a comprehensive listing of gluten-free...
  12. Ah, I see. That clarifies things. Thank you for the info. Michelle in TN
  13. My apologies. I did not intend to post duplicate posts. I'm new to the these boards and still trying to figure them out. I posted my second post when I did not see my first one go through. I waited overnight, and when it didn't show, I posted again. Again, my apologies. Did not mean to do that. Is there a technical reason that I'm not seeing my posts after...
  14. Hi! I'm going gluten-free because of suspected Dermatitis Herpetiformis. Can someone tell me if the Zone Perfect Bars are gluten-free? I accidently posted this question in another forum on this board, and the answer I got said they seemed fine, but I wanted to check here, too. I've searched the boards and Googled it and just can't find anything definite....
  15. Just wanted to add that last night (Sunday), I noticed the little itchy bumps on the site of the iodine patch. It was that insane, burning itching, and just the tiny little bumps that I get with it. My outbreaks never look like the pictures I Google on the internet...they're not large, fluid-filled blisters, just small bumps, which I immediately scratch and...
