  1. You're right. I don't know why, when my husband and closest friends are encouraging me to make the best choice for my health, I care what anyone else thinks. I bought a load of gluten free flours at the store and I'm getting together with a friend who has chronic severe anemia this week to test some recipes. It'll be much easier since we have decided to...
  2. I was diagnosed with Graves disease at fifteen and my thyroid was irradiated. It's been AWFUL. I can't even tell you how many years I spent dealing with the fallout from that and, at thirty, am just beginning to get a handle on it. I'm not sure what the other options are but I would look into them. In answer to the OP question...I had great luck turning...
  3. I had a celiac panel done (second one in the last few years) and I wasn't surprised the results came back negative. CELIAC DISEASE COMPREHENSIVE PANEL TISSUE TRANSGLUTAMINASE <3 U/mL ANTIBODY, IGA Value Explanation of Test Results < 5 Negative 5 - 8 Equivocal > 8 Positive IMMUNOGLOBULIN A-282 I am still considering going gluten free...
  4. I got my blood work results in and I have no idea what any of it means. CELIAC DISEASE COMPREHENSIVE PANEL TISSUE TRANSGLUTAMINASE <3 U/mL ANTIBODY, IGA Value Explanation of Test Results < 5 Negative 5 - 8 Equivocal > 8 Positive IMMUNOGLOBULIN A 282 81-463 mg/dl I'm assuming it's negative. I thought there was another test, but I...
  5. I know I have really low blood pressure. The nurses would always do it twice and than ask me with raised brows, "Is your blood pressure always that low?" They made it seem like a good thing, but when I was diagnosed with adrenal fatigue they said that was one of the symptoms. Thanks for the responses. I always thought it was weird that the back thing happened...
  6. I've gotten a celiac panel and I'm awaiting the results but I was curious about something. Occasionally entire sections of my back will get all tingly, like pins and needles, and then go numb for a few minutes. Could that be related to a celiac induced vitamin deficiency? It's been happening on and off for about two years or so. Also, I cannot stand up...
  7. I feel so much compassion for you right now. I really understand your frustration and fear. Our symptoms, from the childhood OCD to the eating disorders sound very similar. I've also been burned by doctors not taking my symptoms seriously. I haven't been diagnosed with gluten intolerance or celiac- I've only just recently begun to make the connection-...
  8. This is an interesting thread. I was diagnosed with OCD after my first child was born. I've had pretty bad anxiety since I was about four, but it spun out of control after having my daughter. I'm not sure if I have "true" OCD, despite what my therapist said, or I just have a bizarre form of severe anxiety. Whatever it was, it was bad. I've noticed a reduction...
  9. I don't have medical insurance and bloodwork through a doctor is ridiculous...if they'll even do it. I'm looking at some of my options. Regardless of the outcome I am still going to go gluten free for about three months, but it would be nice to be able to, say, tell my mother at Sunday dinner, "Oh, I can't eat your pasta because my blood work indicated I...
  10. Thanks everyone, for being so supportive. I think I'm going to order the biocard test because it is so inexpensive. If it turns out positive I will follow up with a doctor. If it's negative I'm still going to go gluten free for a while to see how I feel. It's only around $40 and that's with shipping- much more palatable than the hundreds enterolab charges...
  11. Has anyone had any experience with this test? Open Original Shared Link It is affordable.
  12. How much time is enough? Will I have to be as strict as someone diagnosed with celiac? For instance, will I have to buy a new toaster, watch out for cross-contamination, buy new cutting boards etc? Maybe this sounds silly, but will my husband have to brush his teeth after eating a slice of pizza? The more I read about it the more certain I am that I have...
  13. LOL. You hit the nail on the head! That's me in a nutshell. I was actually diagnosed with GAD and OCD after my first daughter was born, so yes, I have difficulty making decisions and tend towards perfectionism. That's incredible that your relatives no longer needed synthroid. I've pretty much relegated myself to the fact that I'll be on it the rest of...
  14. I guess that's what I have to do. I actually don't have a problem being on a restricted diet. I've been, over the last fifteen years, a vegetarian, vegan, raw foodie, anorexic, and now I don't eat any processed food or sugar. So, yeah, I could easily stay on a gluten free diet. I think what worries me most is my ability to determine whether or not it is the...
  15. I changed my mind. I've read nearly every thread on this board on enterolab and I'm not convinced it's legit. Now I'm left wondering what to do. I can't afford, without insurance, to request blood testing or a biopsy from my doctor. I'm not sure I will have the will power or determination to stay on the diet with no proof that it's necessary. This is so frustrating...
  16. I think I'm going to order the celiac panel through enterolab. Not the one including genetic testing. That's too expensive and I'm not sure it's necessary to know what genes I carry. Do any of you know if the test telling you whether or not there are gluten antibodies in your stool is fairly accurate? I know it can't diagnose celiac disease, but if my body...
  17. I just found my lab results from the first time I went to a GI complaining about digestive complaints. The tests all look normal. They were taken in 2003. The Gliadin IgA was 3.0 and the IgG was 3.1. The transglutaminase IgA was 0.9.The reticulin AB, IgA was <1.5. I have no idea what any of that means other than the numbers are all normal. Does that...
  18. I guess I just want a definitive answer. I've been through the wringer this last year with my health and I want to know there is something I can actually do. I know that may not be possible...or even probable. My husband is very supportive and empathic, but I know he is going to have issues with me radically altering our diet (again!) without a reason...
  19. I'll try not to draw my story out. I've always had bizarre health issues and they all seem unrelated. When I was very, very young I began to get terribly mouth ulcers. I've always had digestive problems. Severe constipation as an infant and child. Bouts of diarrhea and constipation until my early twenties. I was diagnosed with Graves disease at fifteen...
