  1. Skylark--have you found any oats you can trust?
  2. yay! Such great news!! Thanks for sharing.
  3. Hi. I was here several weeks ago. I'd had an off the charts saliva test saying I'm highly intolerant (dr. said 'allergic') to gluten. Soooo...I decided I just had to know if I'm celiac or not. Went to GI dr. He ordered bloodwork, unsure of validity of saliva testing. All bloodwork negative, including bloodwork of the same test I took by saliva. He...
  4. Thanks for this advice, all. I have a dermatologist appointment for her already set. I plan to have her go to a gastro ped. dr. as well. Hopefully we can find out if she has this or not. Thanks again for taking the time. I was very interested to hear about celiac in Japan. We lived there for a few years. My daughter is actually from Central Asia...
  5. Interesting. I did know that. For now, we homeschool, but you never know what the future holds and it may be helpful for her to have. hmmm... Do you know what the most accurate mode of testing is for kids and the best kind of dr. to see for it? My drs in my small town don't seem real up on this. Is there a list of dr's database or something with...
  6. Yep. Got that. Just trying to decide if I want to get her officially tested is all. But thanks for saying as much, as my dr. did not when I was asking for futher celiac testing. Though I'd done my research and knew. Thanks.
  7. Hi, all. I know this is not he pre-diagnosis area, but I"m not sure how many of you visit there and I am looking for some feedback from those who have 'been there.' My daughter is 7. For the past few years at least she has has what seems to be chronic constipation. She sits on the toilet A LOT. She tested negative on the top allergy blood tests. Dr. just...
  8. This is extremely helpful info. Thank you so very much. I think I might just take her off the gluten. She has eczema and chronic constipation as her 2 biggest symptoms. She is adopted with no family history in our possession. How imp. do you think an official diagnosis is for a child? ps she is Asian, and it is more rare for Asians, but not unheard...
  9. I have not had my daughter tested for celiac or gluten intolerance. Because she tested 'negative' for wheat allergy on a RAST test, I assumed she 'couldn't be'. But now I'm wondering if I assumed wrong? Thanks for any feedback. Vitamin D Girl.
  10. THank you again. Those numbers are bigger than I thought. I think I will try and have the biopsy done.
  11. PS would there be any other blood tests I could do before a biopsy that may give more ideas about if I have celiac? Like is IgG testing what some follow-up with? Thanks.
  12. Do you have any idea of any research (or just from being on these boards) how often someone with negative blood results of IgA Anti-tissue transglutaminase ad IgA Anti-endomysium comes back with a positive internal biopsy? Is it very common? Thanks for any leads you can give. You all are such a blessing to me!
  13. Ok, so they just called and I'm negative on the bloodwork. So, the odds are equal still that I could be celiac even with negative bloodwork? Is the biopsy the only other way to find out? Or should I ask for other kinds of blood tests? Thanks in advance.
  14. Ok, thanks for all of that. Very helpful! I did the gliadin test by saliva and I was very high. Supposedly my bloodwork above is 'in' now. I'm waiting for the dr's office to call with results. If they don't I plan to go pick them up from the lab myself tonight. Stay tuned, and thanks again for all of the 'newbie' support! Much appreciated.
  15. I love this thread. I'm so glad you more experienced one took the time to respond. People like you will help newly diagnosed ones like us get into it! I'm not officially diagnosed yet, but with my gluten levels so high as they are, I will officially be coming off of it when testing is over. You all are helping me to look forward to it, and to all of...
  16. So do some celiacs lose fast because they are having diaherrea? Or why is that? The past year I was 'trying' to lose weight and got to my smallest size ever. BUt now I wonder how much of it was by my trying, and if it's just because of the gluten? I do not get diaherrea though. Mine has been more constipation. I'm worried once I go totally gluten free...
  17. "Today the dr. ordered these blood tests: IgA Anti-tissue transglutaminase AND IgA Anti-endomysium antibodies." Okkk....I'm still a bit confused. The dr. ordered the above tests. If they are positive, I should for sure do the biopsy and it will show me if I have celiac? And if the biopsy is negative, does it mean I"m not celiac? And if the above...
  18. Thanks so much for responding. This really helps me out. I think I will take baby steps into this. Which feel HUGE. Like let's start with the food, and work our way toward products I use 'on' my body and my kids' bodies... Thanks again for your feedback. I'm glad to hear you're finding what works for you.
  19. Do Celiacs have to use gluten-free shampoo, make'up ,etc? Is that a debatable topic? Thanks.
  20. ps how many posts do we have to make before we don't have to go through the approval by the moderator anymore? Or are everyone's comments always moderated? Just wondering.
  21. Thank you for your response. I am not sure I quite understand all the testing. I guess I"m fearing I've not ordered enough or the right tests (by my dr). I mean, if these tests come back positive, it then means I probably have celiac, and only a biopsy could confirm? But if it's negative, I may still have celiac and should get a biopsy? If I...
  22. So I did a saliva test some weeks ago that showed I am off the charts positive on this test: Gliadin Ab, SIgA (Saliva). (Borderline is 13-15 and I was 62!)~ Dr. said he calls this a "gluten allergy". Sooooo yes, I will come off gluten, but I am still interested in learning if I am celiac or not so have remained on for now. Today the dr. ordered...
  23. Oh, this conversation has been SO informative--thank you, thank you. I am so blessed to have found this board! I am planning to do my blood checks and am supposed to eat gluten, too. I'm not anorexic, but that sounds like a lot of food to me to have to eat to make sure I'm well-glutened for a test. I'm just going to try and make sure that I choose more...
  24. More secondary symptoms have been: Low Ferritin levels High folates and high B6 Possibly low B1 anxiety
