  1. We tried the gluten-free Rice Krispies today. My son loved them! He thought they tasted very similar to the original ones. I tried them and thought they were a little drier and not quite as sweet (guessing due to the malt being removed?). Overall, not bad, and they still snap, crackle and pop!
  2. My son is actually going for a blood test to check to see if he is GH deficient. My daughter is being treated for it. He had seen the endo dr. a year ago, but she wanted to wait until he was a year gluten free before doing any further testing. Hoping that gives us a clearer answer.
  3. My son who is 9 went for his 1 year check-up with his gastro Dr. yesterday. Quick recap- we found out he had Celiac accidently through bloodwork. He is a silent Celiac. The only real symptom he shows is that he is small for his age. At 9 1/2 he is 49 pounds and 49 inches. After 3 months of being gluten free, he had bloodwork which all came back clean, which...
  4. Well, my 8 year old had his 4 month gluten free check-up a few weeks ago. He appears to have gained a pound or so in 6 months and grew 1 inch. I didn't think this was very good, but the doctor seemed fine with it. Although we did not see much in physical growth, his bloodwork came back perfect. Forget the exact numbers, but they said if he were tested for...
  5. So my son had his first follow-up exam. He is still 46 pounds, same as he was back in February. Gluten free since July, no gain. He grew 3 centimeters since May, which is about 1 inch in 6 months. The doctor seemed to think this was good progress, where my husband and I felt completely discouraged. He went on to explain that it could take up to 2 years to...
  6. Hi Everyone- Well my 8 year old son has been gluten-free for 3 months now. Although he has adjusted well to the change in diet, nothing about him seems any different than before we started (he never had any visible problems, just short and thin). He has not gained any weight, and has not grown either. I have heard many people say how within a couple of...
  7. We have been through 2 bags of them already and the whole family loves them! They taste great, I think better than regular pretzels. My son who is the one with Celiac doesn't want to share them, they are that good. Our Wegman's has been carrying them for a couple of weeks now which is very convenient when doing my weekly shopping.
  8. Thanks for your input. This is the hard part- he shows no psychological/neurological signs at all. He is a really good kid, no behavior problems (except likes to argue with his sister, but think this is fairly common). Does really well in school, has a lot of friends, adjusts easily to new situations. Pretty even tempered overall, so really hard to know ...
  9. Well, we are a few weeks into the gluten free diet for my son. For the most part, the adjustment is going well. My concerns are starting to grow, as we were away over the weekend. Most people seem to know when they have been glutened, some type of reaction to something they have eaten. They learn and are careful not the eat 'it' again. With my son, he does...
  10. Thanks, Emily. I am getting a handle on the food, I think. It is great to see all the ideas you and others have provided as far as the better brands of food. This will save a lot of wasted time and $$. When we are home it is pretty easy. It's planning ahead for when we are away for a few days that takes some thinking. One more list I will be making!
  11. Thank you for all of your insight! I suspect my daughter has it as well, but it just hasn't shown up yet. She is doing great with her shots and showing a lot of progress, but I still think she potentially has celiac. As for the rest, I plan to be extremely cautious to avoid all possible contamination. I am thinking that once he is gluten free for a while...
  12. I have been hearing that I should not be using the same pots and pans to cook gluten-free foods in as I do for other foods. Does the gluten stick to cookware that it does not come off when washed? I know I am buying a completely different set of cooking utensils but wasn't sure how necessary the pots and pans are.
  13. These are all very helpful ideas-thanks so much! The one thing I wish he could have would be nuts. Our house has always been nut-free, as my daughter has a nut allergy. I am sure it will all work out, and hopefully by September we will have it down so we can start the school year off with ease. Thanks again- truly appreciated:)
  14. My 8 year old son was recently diagnosed with Celiac. At his 8 year check-up he hadn't grown much over the past year. My 9 year old daughter is on growth hormone therapy since she was growing slowly. She has been tested numerous times for Celiac, all negative. Being as she was so small, the pediatrician ordered a blood test for my son, expecting to see a...
