  1. Thanks for your responses everyone. I am actually now going to spend the majority of my time in Vietnam now it seems.
  2. Hi guys, I am a recentlyish diagnosed celiac (4-5 months now I think) that has been gluten free since then. I am going to go on holiday to Thailand, and probably Cambodia and Vietnam over Christmas. I am not the sort of chap to stay in a nice hotel, I prefer a guesthouse and eating from street vendors (not as bad nor as dangerous as you'd think). However...
  3. Encouraging replies, thanks guys. The inflammation is always brought on by hard impacts / jumping from anything. I got it really bad last year rock climbing on a bouldering wall and jumping down from that. I am only 3 weeks gluten free though and i've had this inflammation problem for years, longer than my GI symptoms so I assume it might take a while...
  4. Hi guys, I am a newly diagnosed celiac (gluten free for 3 weeks). I have mostly had GI symptoms which seem to be getting better slowly which is great. However right now I am suffering from a very painful bout of inflammation in my sacroilliac joint, making it very painful to walk. It's happened 3-4 times before in the last few years mostly as a result...
  5. Yup good point, don't take this at the same time as a PPI or any other medication. On a side note I think I got my first glutening (after 3 weeks gluten free) last night. Woke up this morning with a stomach that was a lot more sore than normal, my guts felt a bit inflammed / bigger and had some real D when I went to the bathroom (I never get this normally...
  6. Hey guys, this site has already been very helpful to me so I thought i'd share something in case you didn't know about it. I was diagnosed a celiac because I have bad GERD / acid reflux and my doc did some biopsies during a gastroscopy. My stomach problems started badly when I had a 2 week holiday and went back home to my hometown and did a lot of binge...
  7. Hi folks. Newly diagnosed celiac here as of last friday, although my doc told me he thought I had it about a month ago - so i've been gluten free for 2 weeks now. I am being very strict about what I eat, but I live in a shared house with 5 other young professionals. I was wondering if cross contamination is going to stop me getting better at all in this...
  8. Hi Jakey, I am 25 next sunday and have been gluten free for 2 weeks too and have some of the same symptoms. Mostly painful heartburn and a hiatial hernia but also some joint pain (painful inflammed sacroilliac joint after anything more than light impacts.) I am maybe begining to realise I put up with feeling like crap and dealing with a lot of pain and discomfort...
  9. Thanks for the replies everyone. I understand I need to be totally gluten free I was just wondering if i'll get some benefit from massively reducing my gluten at first which is what will happen when I first do the diet (but probably have a couple of slip ups). Dairy wise I will go with lactose free milk which is the only dairy I have apart from cream I use...
  10. Wheatfreedude and bcoy posted some great ideas there. Eating lots more protein and weightlifting will pack muscle onto your frame. One quick way to get more protein into your diet cheaply and conveniently is having protein shakes (check for gluten obv) and eating tins of tuna. Tuna is very protein rich and very lean. You can bulk up your protein shakes...
  11. Hi guys, I have been suffering from bad GERD (very sore stomach / esophagus) for the last 2 years since I had a nice visit back to my hometown that involved a lot of drinking and ibuprofen for hangovers. The gerd has gotten pretty bad and is disrupting my sleep and i'm in pain 75% of the time. I also have been investigated for having Ankylosing Spondylitis...
