  1. Thanks for your replies everyone! I did mention to my GI that I had had oral thrush for a while and she said something along the lines of "that's interesting, you can have candida lower down too which can cause symptoms like yours." She didn't actually comment on whether she would test for it or not though. I guess I'll just have to wait and see when I...
  2. Does anyone know if endoscopy biopsies can detect intestinal candida? I had my scope done this morning, but with so much going on, forgot to ask the doc about it. I've heard candida symptoms can mimic celiac.
  3. Brain fog for me is one of my worse symptoms. I have a very repetative job, that I should know how to do off by heart. But it has gotten to the stage where I have to concentrate extremely hard to make sure I correctly do tasks which I have probably performed hundreds of times. It's frustrating because I often make simple mistakes that just shouldn't be made...
  4. Immunologists specialise in all aspects of the immune system, this includes both allergies and autoimmune disorders. They often work closely with other specialists too, mine has referred me to dermatologists, gastroenterologists, nutritionists etc. But I think an immunologist is a good place to start. good luck, hope you can track down the right person...
  5. Thanks for your reply! So white bread is highest in gluten? I guess the whole idea is to bombard your body with as much gluten as possible, so that would make sense. Why no sour dough bread though? I'm sorry to hear you had a hard time with your GI, thats so frustrating to have to go through everything involved in a gluten challenge and endoscopy, only...
  6. hi everyone, Just a quick question... I've read that when doing a gluten challenge you have to eat 3-4 slices of white bread everyday. Just wondering if it has to be white, or if wholemeal/wholegrain/multigrain breads will do. Also, is it necessary for me to do a challenge if I've only been off gluten for 2 weeks, and have a biopsy scheduled for 3...
  7. thanks for the replies everyone I was under the impression that if you have celiac disease, gluten damages the villi of the intestine, but if you are non-celiac gluten intolerant, you don't actually get the physical damage to your intestines, it just makes you feel unwell. Likewise, if you are celiac, then eating even small amounts of gluten WILL cause...
  8. It may be celiac related, or it may be something entirely different. To me itchiness/hives sounds more like an allergic reaction. Wines contain a sulfite, which you can be allergic or sensitive to. I'm not sure about all the fine details, but from what I understand people react in different ways to it. For me, if I drink more than a glass or two of wine I...
  9. Since my blood tests for celiac were negative, the doctor told me I do not have celiac disease but may just have a wheat or gluten intolerance. She said that I should try cutting back on wheat a bit and see if that helps my symptoms. My question is, will just "cutting back" be enough to give an improvement, or do I need to cut it out totally. My Doc says...
  10. Hi guys, I was hoping the more experienced people around here might be able to provide some advice on my test results? IgA 1.52 g/L Gliadin IgG <1 U/mL TTG IgA <1 U/mL firstly, I already know they're negative. The doctor told me that much, she didn't give me any details or explanation though. So what kind of range...
  11. This is probably a stupid question, but I thought I'd ask anyway lol. I know that part of the celiac thing is malabsorption of food nutrients. But could malabsorption of medication be an issue too? Has anyone started taking vitamin supplements and not noticed a difference? Or the same thing with actual medication? The reason I ask is that I seem to...
  12. Just wondering if this is a common occurance? Have many people here experienced this? The reason I ask is that my blood test was negative and I'm trying to decide the next step. Just wondering if a biopsy might actually show up with something.
  13. I'm so glad that others feel the same way. As for prescribing medications for it, I think that's aweful. It's only masking the symptoms, not treating the cause. Some doctors seem to have no idea. My dad has always had digestive issues, had all the testing done years ago (including celiac) and everything came back negative. So of course he was told he...
  14. Hi everyone, I was just wondering what your thoughts on IBS are? My doctor mentioned it to me, and after doing some basic research on it, I'm not sure I feel like this is a true diagnosis. It seems to me that "Irritable bowel syndrome" is just the name given to a group of symptoms. But I am finding it hard to find anywhere the cause behind the symptoms...
  15. Thanks for the information and warm welcome everyone, and I really appreciate the advice! It's just nice to talk to others in the same kind of situation. No I didn't get vitamin B testing, but I think it's worth noting for next time, so thanks for mentioning it. The other thing I forgot to mention is that I got the same vitamin testing about a year...
  16. hi everyone, This is my first time posting, but I just wanted to say that I've spent a LOT of time around the forums and have learnt a lot, so thanks for inadvertently helping me haha! I really would like to share my story though, and would love any incite you may have... About a week ago I went to the doctor with problems that have been troubling...
