  1. Lol! Nice view on things. I know what you mean, Im at the point where I know what I have to do to keep me healthy so that's what I'm going to do. My family is pretty understanding (I've always been a "Weird" eater, so I don't think it really phases them lol) Actually this diet isn't a huge switch for me (besides cereal! tho my cravings for it have gone.....
  2. I was wondering the same thing! (I live in southeast Michigan by the way, so not sure if it's in other states either) Let me know if you hear anything from them please.
  3. Wow our stories do sound a lot alike. I was completely shocked when I started researching celiac disease, and how many symtoms and complications it can cause. I still can't believe it is not as well known as what it should be. Even dr's dont seem to know what to do with it. I have come to the conclusion that I am at least gluten intolerant (becuase of the...
  4. I think there is one kind of puffins that are gluten-free (I think they are the honey rice kind) but I didn't react to them very well.
  5. My sister (she eats out a lot) runs into that problem too- she asked for no bun or no roll but they always forget- tho she thinks its fine to just take the bun off and eat it anyways. I don't eat out a lot (I'm a college freshman, don't get off campus much and I like to cook when I am home) but my family likes to go out a lot, so I do end up going out once...
  6. LOL I guess so! I think I would be nervous to order mashed potatoes at a restuarant (i dont really like them anyways, prefer baked). Who knows what restuarants add to things. Is rice usually safe at resturants? Do you eat out a lot?
  7. In the beginning of May, I'm going to Beaver Island (a tiny island in northern, mi that my college has a lab on) for a week long class with about 40 other college students. All meals will be provided in a cafeteria. However, im positive theyre going to be catered to the "typical" college student. I know for snacks at night theyre going to have stuff like...
  8. Thank you so much, you have been really helpful in this confusing time. I have actually always wondered about my thyroid or the possibilty of being anemic. I have tried to get the dr.'s to test me for it, but my family dr's office is quite frankly..horrible. I asked to be tested for anemia and they got all defense and were shocked that i would want to have...
  9. Yeah the cafeteria ingredients really concern me..glad I'll be done with that in two weeks! Its hard enough figuring out whats gluten-free, espeically when you can't see a label. Do you find that a lot of salad dressings are not gluten-free? Im kind of wondering about the salad bar and the cross containmentation issues there. Are they generally safe? Im starting...
  10. I think it would be hard to convince my family to get checked out for it (tho when we found out that my grandma had factor 5- a predisposition to blood clots? a lot of my family did get checked out for it- and quite a few have it). My mom seems to have issues with wheat and such too- she recently went on weight watchers so cut out a lot of junk food and avoids...
  11. Are all mashed potatoes gluten-free mainly? I was thinking of getting some ensure...are all flavors gluten-free? What flavors do you like?
  12. Are all broths gluten-free? My mom is on weight watchers and bought some broth to use when she makes rice, so I was wondering if i can have that when i get home. Also, i bought a healthy choice frozen meal (it didnt list wheat as an allergen- and it did on some of their other varieties) ..tho now im guessing it prolly isnt gluten-free? Also, are packaged...
  13. Thanks for the suggestions. Yeah oatmeal didnt seem to be sitting well either but I was desperate...I talked to the people in charge of dining, and they were really nice and gave me a menu and went over food on it that I can and can't have (they were prepared, but some of the stuff I wasn't totally sure of and it was questionable..) Also, I've worked at the...
  14. Do they make quinoa flakes in instant form? Like how it comes out with oatmeal? Ive seen irish oatmeal in stores, is that safe. Also, are there any mainstream cereals that are gluten-free? Ive heard of fruity pebbles, but I dont like how sugary they are. I like having cereal because its a quick snack, but i dont like how sugary a lot of them can be.What do...
  15. Yeah I know the food pyramid isn't exactly accurate ( I was a nutrition minor for a little bit, and even did a report on how bad it was..ironic..) I definately eat my fair share of fruits and veggies (my family always jokes that all i eat is "rabbit food" lol) and they're make up the most of my diet. The diet isn't a huge deal for me because I didnt eat a...
  16. Thanks for replying! This is all so confusing, so any help is wonderful. I never knew how much went along with this, I'm suprised that not a lot of people know about it (and a lot of dr.'s dont seem to know about it either). I can deal with the bland diet, and it would prolly help right now. Im defiantely able to eat the same thing all the time, I guess I...
  17. Ok I'm feeling sick again, and not holding food down all that well. Normally I don't get hungry, but now I'm starved and have no idea what to eat! Normally I love yogurt, but dairy is seeming to bug me now too! What am I supposed to eat? Any suggestions? On top of trying to avoid gluten and dairy..I'm a freshman in college living in the dorms so I don't have...
  18. Wow thanks for responding. Our stories do sound a lot alike. I never realized so many other disorders were connected to celiac disease until I started reading this message board. I have a family history of a lot of the connected ones- Both grandmas and dad had diabetes, my grandma died of lymphoma, some cousins have a peanut allergy and asthma, an aunt has...
  19. Hi, I've been reading through this message board for the past two months or so (I had one post about a month ago). I could really use some input. Ever since Ive been in college (I'm a freshman, tho know that I think about it I did have some stomach problems when I was younger) I've been having a lot of stomach problems. My sister (IBS, pancreatis, possbily...
  20. Hey Thanks for replying! Right now I think I'm just goign to eat gluten-free for a while, becuase it diffently seems to be helping, and I didnt eat a lot of gluten before (tho gluten is in some weird sources!) so its not incredibly hard..tho I do find it hard to eat completely gluten-free since the dr said it was negative..im just gonna assume im gluten or...
  21. Ok I am new to this site (i have been reading over the posts for a few weeks now, but just registered cuz I need some questions answered). I know you guys see the "Do I Have Celiacs?" a lot...but here's one more. I'm a 19 year old college freshman and I haven't been feeling good and I think it's getting worse. I get incredibly nausous, dizzy, very bad headaches...
