ARCHIVED B12 Limit Question
katrina500 posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hello, my earlier post explained that I had accidentally had gluten about a week ago. My symptoms are also telling me that my B12 is also low. My blood tests always come back as normal but just within the normal range. I also drink too much alcohol about three or four nights of the week and I know that, coupled with celiac disease, hinders absorption.... -
ARCHIVED Accidental Gluten Intake

Thank you! It took about a week from the gluten intake for me to actually get sick. Is that 'normal'? -

I've been gluten free for two years. I accidentally had some about a week ago and am feeling tired, headaches, leg weakness, tinnitus etc. How long does anyone think it will take to leave my system and any tips on how to get rid of it quicker? Thank you. -
ARCHIVED B12 Confusion
katrina500 replied to katrina500's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Thanks so much for your comprehensive response and the trouble to do so. I'm not sure where you live, but I'm in Ireland and they don't say mgs, but a percentage of your recommended daily allowance (RDA). I only drink wine and the occasional spirit, I don't drink beer or Guiness unfortunately. I'll up the supplements I think, but I just get confused as... -

Thanks for your reply, I've had all the thyroid tests and I'm actually hugely underweight which, as I understand it, is not something associated with thyroid issues. I'm 5'9" and only weigh 9 stone. I was average before diagnosis and then of course, the cakes and buns went, so I lost weight, but am trying to put it back on. I'll ask my GP for further tests... -
ARCHIVED B12 Confusion

Hello, I've been gluten free for around 12 months after an endoscopy and blood test. My initial symptoms were never gastro, but dizziness, fatigue and headaches. Those symptoms now come and go still (apart from the headaches which have happily gone for good it seems). However, I still get very debilitating fatigue. My B12 levels have always come back... -

Thanks so much for taking the time to reply, and what you say makes so much sense. Feeling a lot better today. Have cut out everything apart from retaining a sense of humour! Thanks again. -

Wow, leaky gut causing the leg pains. That makes so much sense. Huge thanks for that. I really need to detox properly. No Irish nectar for me anymore Glad you like our country, I think New York is paradise! Sl -

Thanks so much, yes I do plan to stop smoking, in the next week or so. I find it harder to not drink and smoke when I feel so down as it gives me some crumbs of comfort (not gluten crumbs of course! ). But I know it's something I must do, will get myself some nicotine patches. Thanks again (ps: I have an Irish heart too, well in fact my whole body... -

Thanks to both of you for your kind and helpful comments. Since I was diagnosed, my partner has become gluten free as well. We retain the old chopping boards and wooden utensils from when we used to eat gluten, but they've all been scrubbed to within an inch of their lives and indeed even put in the dishwasher. Is it necessary to buy new ones even... -
ARCHIVED Scared - How Long Does It Take To Feel Okay?

Hello everyone I was diagnosed by blood test and then by biopsy in October 2010. I have been gluten free since then and made a few mistakes, but can say since at least February 2011, even cross contamination would be hard, I am exceptionally careful. I continue to have the following problems: 1. Exceptional, exceptional fatigue to the point of collapse... -
ARCHIVED How Does Your Body React When Ingested Gluten
katrina500 replied to sickly's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hello, I think people react differently when they have gluten. For me, it seems to take a few days and then I become extremely fatigued and have dizziness, headaches and muscle pain. I used to get really stressed about it which made me worse of course, now I accept that I've done something wrong and try and get back on track knowing that it will go away... -
ARCHIVED Day 3 Of Elimination Diet (Gory)
katrina500 replied to Crash's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Crash, it took me two months of eating nothing but meat, fruit and veg until I started to feel better, then I started on the processed gluten free meals and I felt terrible again, so stick with it, it really does take a while; our intestines are very long to get it all out. As for the alcohol, I'm quite a big social drinker and I'm finding it really hard... -
ARCHIVED Help! Gluten Free - Not Working!
katrina500 replied to PunkyBean's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hello, I don't have DH, my celiac symptoms were all neurological with some stomach pains. I went for two months on just plain food; rice, chicen, meat, vegetables. Then I felt I was doing great and started eating processed food which was marked as gluten free and I've been really ill again. I think just try really plain, completely unprocessed food and... -
ARCHIVED Symptoms Went And Then Returned
katrina500 replied to katrina500's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi there, no I just took paracetamol. Looking back, I was so excited about the ability to buy gluten free products, that I think I just stuffed myself with all the crisps, cakes, curries etc that said they were gluten free but were full of additives. I'm finding it a bit hard I guess to really adjust my eating lifestyle and I need to eat plain food. It... -

Hi there, thanks so much for your reply. It's talked me off the ledge as it were! I think I got a bit 'cocky' and started feeling great and then buying loads of ready made meals that professed to be gluten free but were full of additives and preseratives. I felt my best when I was eating plain food. Can you recommend vitamin companies that are completely... -
ARCHIVED Symptoms Went And Then Returned
katrina500 posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hello all. I was diagnosed by biopsy in October 2010. I have been gluten free since then. After going gluten free I experienced significant vertigo and dizziness, that went too. Everything was going along marvellously and I developed a rather bad cold about a week ago. The cold seems to have gone, though I am now, again, extremely fatigued, feeling dizzy... -
ARCHIVED Severe Dizziness
katrina500 replied to katrina500's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi there and thanks for replying. I think I've been super strict in the diet, but maybe I did make mistakes. I'll try the supplement you suggest (though have never heard of it!). How long did yours take to go away if you don't mind me asking? -
ARCHIVED Severe Dizziness
katrina500 replied to katrina500's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Thanks so much for your reply. I have no idea what my B12 levels are and am just getting used to questioning my Doctor. I was just told they were fine, but now I'll ask and will start a liquid iron supplement in any event. Most of my food is unprocessed, but I'll be even more strict. Do you think excess alcohol could contribute to the dizziness? I'm... -
ARCHIVED Severe Dizziness
katrina500 replied to katrina500's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Any comments appreciated. I fell over today in the street on account of dizziness which was most embarassing. I have three days to go before I absolutely have to go back to work, and I'm a bit scared to tell the truth. Thanks, and Happy New Year to you all from sunny (not really) London, UK. -
ARCHIVED Severe Dizziness
katrina500 posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I was diagnosed with celiac disease on 27th November and so have been gluten free for around 5 weeks. The majority of my symptoms were, and remain, neurological. More specifically I am suffering from the most awful dizziness to the extent that I have to suddenly grab onto something to stop me feeling over. It seems to be made worse by exercise (a light...
