  1. Ok, so my MIL asked me AGAIN today if I was sticking to this "diet" and why her neighbor down the road can't eat gluten either but will occasionally have a bowl of pasta when they go out and just say that she has to be good for awhile now - like it was some high fat dessert or something *rolls eyes*
  2. I am sorry about your losing a friend. That said, why do you turn down social invites? Either just don't eat (eat beforehand so you aren't hungry) or bring your own safe food. Don't isolate yourself because you will lose a lot more friends than this one if you do BTW......{{{{{{{{{HUGS}}}}}}}}}
  3. Mu MIL said to me at Easter, "Oh! You are still doing that?" in reference to my not eating gluten. I said, "Yeah, it is either not eat gluten or die so I choose gluten free forever!"
  4. Can someone please explain the above statement in bold to me? I can't have casein either and now I can't have WINE because of it???
  5. I just bought a big bag of Lay's salt and vinegar the other week and it did not say wheat on the ingredients list.
  6. I had someone tell me a few weeks ago that they have Celiac Disease too. They also claimed that they can not eat casein (just like me.) Just earlier that evening this person had been eating cheese stick and she regularly eats things like cookies and even regular pizza. Um, you do NOT have celiac disease unless you are one of those that has no symptoms and...
  7. I was very angry when I put all the peices together too. I have never had a "formal" diagnosis but I don't need one. You do become less angry over time but it takes awhile. Just try to focus on the positive that you finally have some answers and you can look at the doctors that doubted you and say, "IN YOUR FACE!!!" Oh, and I ran a low grade fever every...
  8. My Dd went gluten free about a month after I did because she has had sever stomach pain since she developed a severe bacterial infection from a ruptured apendix when she was 13 (she is 18 now.) Well the other day she ordered lettuce wraps from PF Changs. She had never eaten there in her pre-gluten free days so she just assumed that the only lettuce wrap they...
  9. When I first went gluten free I didn't care what I put in my mouth as long as it was gluten free. Figuring out that I was not able to eat gluten at least made me stop GAINING weight but it was not until I cut out all of the gluten free substitutions and eventually ALL grains that helped me to start LOSING weight. I follow more of what they call a "Paleo"...
  10. I did the food sensitivity testing which was the IGg testing. It tested something like 180 foods and spices and I also came back positive for almost all fish/seafood, egg whites and both bakers and brewers yeast (which means I can't even eat gluten free bread)

    ARCHIVED I

UGH....Is April "Be a bad friend" month ot what? This is one of many "friends who don't get it" threads I have read in the last few days. We just have to be careful what we put into our mouths people! It is not like we have a communicable disease or are drama queens/kings for gosh sakes!
  12. I just don't get why people are like this about those of us that can not eat gluten. You would never be so rude to someone with a peanut allergy. I know celiacs is not an allergy but just because we do not experience or troat closing up does not mean it is not a real health concern. If I were you the next time they started belittling your dietary concerns...
  13. I was very angry when I figured out what was wrong with me. After reading a site on celiac disease I had practically every symptom and was very angry that not one doctor I had seen over the last four years had put the pieces together. I went gluten free on my own and was feeling like a normal person again after only one week. It took me months not to feel...
  14. My very first symptom four years before diagnosis was hip pain. By the end every muscle and bone in my body hurt. It all went away after going gluten (and eventually casein) free.
  15. Oats do not contain the same protein that make us sick but most oats are cross contaminated so unless you find a dedicated manufacturer then it is best to stay away from them. I myself react to all oats so that isn't even an option for me.
  16. I had such a positive reaction to a gluten (and now dairy) free diet that I never went back for a formal diagnosis. To me it is just not necessary since the only thing they will tell you to do is go on a gluten free diet. My levels must have been sky high though because I still tested positive for gluten, wheat, barley and oats even after not consuming them...
  17. This reminds me of the time when I was vegetarian. My MIL told me one Thanksgiving that she had left some of the stuffing out of the bird just for me. I felt so loved until I took my first bite. I said, "This tastes like meat." and she replied, "That's because I put sausage in the stuffing!" UGH!
  18. I react the exact same way to casein as I do to gluten and body aches are my first symptom.
  19. It made me sick but I'm pretty sure it was just because it is a HORRIBLE excuse for a pizza
  20. I can't use it anymore because it has yeast extract or something like that in there and I can no longer have yeast. Maybe you have a candida infection in your gut and are reacting to the yeast?
  21. Crap! I was thinking Aces had probably closed their door Thanks everyone.
  22. Thank you CeliacAndCfsCrusader
  23. My DD is getting married in Vegas in July and can not eat gluten just like her mom. Does anyone know of a gluten free bakery we can order the cake from? I googled and only really came up with Aces Up bakery on Hualapai Way but the webisite is not operational and nobody answers the phone. Any suggestions?
  24. That was never one oif my symptoms. In fact, the opposite was true - I was chronically constipated. Now I poop darn near every day for the first time in my life. I still get happy about it like I am a little kid...LOL
  25. Add me to the list of people who had this prior to going gluten free and have not had it since.
