    Thank you for your input. I asked the doctor if my daughter is lactose intolerant and he said, based on the biopsy, that she is not deficient or intolerant of anything. I'm wondering if I should take her off lactose on my own and see what happens. That would be milk, cheese, yogurt....anything else?

    The doctor took another celiac panel 2 months after being gluten-free and he said her levels were "slightly high" but lower than the first time. They took another panel yesterday and we'll see what it shows. I wonder if there's any chance that the celiac panel was originally a false positive???

    What I didn't mention is that we had the endoscopy done in December and it showed minimal inflammation of the lining of the small intestine but no damage to the villi, so the doctor says it's "Latent Celiac" which means we caught it before it did any damage.     My daughter has tested positive for the antibodies for Celiac. Does she really need the biopsy to prove it or should we go gluten-free since she has the antibodies?

    Something similar happened to my daughter. She was having terrible stomach aches for about a month and her pediatrician sent her to a GI specialist.     I have another question - her symptoms came on suddenly this past November. She never had stomach aches (except for the occasional constipation) prior to that. I've heard so many people say that their symptoms lasted for years before a diagnosis. I think that's why I'm in denial since this happened so suddenly. Is that strange??

    Her biopsy report states:"duodenal mucosa with mildly increased intraepithelial lymphocytes. Villous architecture is unremarkable. Plasma cells are present but there is no increase in lamina propria inflammation and no foamy macrophages. The findings can be seen in symptomatic, latent, or partially treated gluten sensitivity (celiac sprue)."

    My daughter tested positive for Celiac with a blood test, but her endoscopy biopsy was negative. The doctor said that she has "Latent Celiac" and that her severe stomach aches were not at all caused by Latent Celiac, but by IBS (irritable bowel syndrome).
