ARCHIVED Thryoid Question
nuttmegs17 replied to nuttmegs17's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Sorry for the late response, I had to travel and work has been insane so havent been online as much I'm not sure that he did anything special to put it in remission. Looking at the labs, I was on 120 dose of mythemozole (Spell?). It was knocking me out. He took me off all other meds i was on at the time (birth control, anitdepressant, beta blockers,... -

nuttmegs17 replied to MsCurious's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm with you - my new Doc blew off my celiac blood test when they failed to give a number and instead just said negative. He said, unless it's zero, if you have ANY antibodies present, you should consider yourself gluten intolerant...it would be like saying you are not pregnant when you take a pregnancy test - you either are pregnant or you are not....you... -
ARCHIVED Thryoid Question
nuttmegs17 replied to nuttmegs17's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes, thyroid problems are no joke. I remember as much when I had graves. The TSH controversy continues to facinate me. In anticipation of my appt with a new doc coming up this week, I had my Mayo Clinic records faxed to me. I saught treatment for my graves way back then (2002-2004) and they successfully got my graves into remission. I was curious... -
ARCHIVED Thryoid Question
nuttmegs17 replied to nuttmegs17's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thank you , Nora and everyone else! This is def very confusing. It's also confusing b/c somedays I have 99 of the 100 sypmtons and then other days some of the symptons calm down and it makes me think everything is all in my head. MissCurious - Its def worth a second look. i do believe everyone has a different normal range so you should go by your... -

I agree and in general i would be inclined to do that (diet and not procedure) but the new GI guy I saw (whom i really like), was highly suspicious of cleliac (he's an md at an adult celiac center at rush) but with my symptons is doing an endo where he is also going to look at other options (if it's not celiac).....i would like to definitly ruled in or out... -
ARCHIVED Thryoid Question

Yes, it feels good to know that i can trust my doc to some extend. i feel a bit like I wont have to study hard prior to a visit b/c he clearly knows more than i do which is fab. I'm going to talk to my boss about getting a day off even sooner. If it's the gluten making me feel worse/miserable, i'd like to get off of it asap Thanks, Cass! Your information... -
ARCHIVED Thryoid Question
nuttmegs17 replied to nuttmegs17's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
For those with thyroid info...the endo finally wrote me about my test results...said my ferratin was low but D was normal...she's half right anyways, she again stated I do not need treatment for hypo b/c "You do have TPO antibodies present, which are the antibodies present in Hashimoto's. Patients who have had Graves' disease often have these antibodies... -

i know, what is it with docs not running the tests you specifically ask for and blowing you off? as for the lipid panel, I think there is some link between fat and cholesterol and it indicating either hashi's or graves...however I'm getting fuzzy....its good to see your doc is thinking outside the box a bit though! i saw my gi guy at the celiac center... -

ARCHIVED Thryoid Question

so basically what i'm reading here (let me know if i am wrong) - leaving my hashi's untreated (even if it's w/in "normal" -whatever that means- range) could put me at risk for graves again?! Geesh! Is it possible to have both at once? How on earth do you treat it then?! I'm beyond irriated b/c I have been so proactive (At least I thought I was) in asking... -

Yes i was on a gluten-free diet for about 3 weeks less than a month ago (getting fuzzy here, I've been lightheaded for several days now so forgive me). I was thinking it would come back negative (as I've heard people here mention that false negatives are common) I will be happy if i do not have it, but of course, if I do, i want to treat my body right..... -

Wow, thank you guys for all this information. I swear if not for boards like this i dont know what I would do! I have been researching good docs to go to in my area who understand the intricacies of all these things - hard to find! i think I might have found one, but we shall see. That is a good point - i should be treated like a patient already on... -

ARCHIVED Thryoid Question

oh for graves I just took methmezole (spelling) for a couple of years, gradually decreasing until my thryoid levels normalized....haven't been on anything since...I went sympton free for over 7 years. now something is rearing its ugly head. -

Thanks for your quick responses....it's nice to feel as though I'm not crazy. i mean to be hearing "it's not your thyroid" despite the fact that i recognize the symptons from my past....ugh. And then to get tests confirming hashimotos and for them to be ignored....how is this standard procedure? Yes, both docs know about my graves which is why i'm kinda... -

Hi - I'm back it's been a rough go. I just continue to feel worse and worse. i feel soo lightheaded and dizzy most days and just down in general I had the TPO test which came back today as abnormal and which indicates Hashimotos (less than 30 is normal, I was 250)...in addition, my thyroid level jumped up quite a bit again (! - quite a huge jump... -

You guys are awesome - thanks for the support! I was definitely in need of a kinda of virtual hug that is for sure. Are there specific ones I should be on them to test or watch? you've mentioned antibodies? rervse T3s....if you can think of them, I'd like to... -
ARCHIVED Thryoid Question

Good advice. I am trying to get into see an endo now. The thing that is upsetting me is that I told my primary doc from the beginning that I had graves disease and was concerned about my thryoid - I asked for a full panel then (said this well over a year ago). She tested me and said they were normal and indicated she had run the full panel as requested... -

Ishy - in a similar boat....be sure to get the lab tests for that "normal" thyroid test. i'm reading a lot that some docs differ on what the "normal" range is (they usually print the range on the labwork...generally speaking anything over 3 is hypo) so it doesn't hurt to dig deeper...my primary says mine is normal as well, but when I pulled out my labwork... -

Hi I am getting so discouraged waiting and honestly becoming scared that I will not know why i feel this way and know HOW to stop this. I hear you on the "lose it" part...I lost it earlier when my thryoid tests came back normal....I sooooo wanted it to be my graves rearing it's ugly head again, as that treatment is relativly straightforward...I'm terrified I'll never get a good answer and be like this forever (can you tell I'm getting anxious?!) Good luck to you both! -

No I will def change my diet - felt better without dairy soy or gluten my main concern is finding out what is wrong...I was only gluten-free for a few weeks - not all my symptons went away....if I am negative then I will continue (or in this case start up agian) going gluten-free but will also continue to see other docs to figure out what is going on... -
ARCHIVED Should I Be Tested?
nuttmegs17 replied to JenHarris's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I recommend getting tested. If know that if I went gluten-free and felt better, that SHOULD be enough of a diagnosis, but I'm afraid of going gluten-free feeling MOSTLY better but still having something wrong....at that point going back on gluten would be a huge ordeal. Better now than never. I would rather just get the diagnosis one way or another...
