  1. It's possible that the reason some people are gluten intolerant is that their digestive systems are not operating properly...due to absence of good bacteria, poor health or whatever. In that case the gluten intolerance wouldn't be causing the malabsorption--it would be a result of it.
  2. I recently went gluten free after a cascade of symptoms in the last year. Wheat has never really made my stomach feel great but it got worse recently. I went to see an ayurvedic doctor for another reason and mentioned my GI to her. It is her opinion (and that of her ayurvedic teacher, a prominent dr from India) that our guts suffer assault from shots and...
  3. Amazing. Well, I guess I'm not crazy. I am thankful I found this forum because the average person would never believe it. Especially because my symptoms/awareness got so much sharper after I went off it. Thanks for the replies.
  4. The other day I went to Wegman's and about halfway through my ears began to ache just like they do when I am exposed to gluten. I literally stopped in an aisle and thought of what I could have eaten but couldn't think of anything, plus the ear thing happens minutes after I'm exposed. So I was wondering if it could be the bakery there in the store? If...
  5. In my book dis-ease is a perfect description! I think the word has bad connotations that bring up all kinds of preconceived notions but it just means an organ that doesn't function properly or a condition that gets in the way of proper function. Our kids probably make less of a deal about the facts than how we as their parents react to the facts so if...
  6. I am waiting right now to get a blood test after testing myself this summer with no gluten and then going back on for this test... and feeling miserable. So all I know right now is that I don't feel good on gluten. Today my gyn found big fibroids in my uterus--like she says I am the size of 4 mos pregnant. No history in my family that I know of. (Haven...
  7. Within a half hour of eating gluten my ears hurt, even quicker than that. Extreme exhaustion sounds like my symptoms, sometimes a headache. The time period varies, I found. It probably depends upon many variables--for instance, what you ate before that, when you ate, etc. Our bodies are constantly dealing with our environment outside and what we put in...
  8. Thanks for your input. I am calling my ped. tomorrow. Almost did it today but I have to stop procrastinating...it's just that I dread the hassle I'm afraid I'm facing! You mentioned nose ulcers...I hope it's not too off topic. Almost every winter my nose cracks inside and is horribly painful. Of course I can't stop from trying to pick away the hard...
  9. I can't even tell you exactly what the markers were. I knew nothing of this back then so I didn't have knowledge of what they were talking about. The ped said he "looked like a celiac type" then sent us to children's hospital/philly. He had his blood taken twice if I'm remembering correctly, and they said the first markers--I'm assuming antibodies?--came...
  10. I don't have any answers but I am interested in hearing some responses to your question. My 14yo boy, at 3, had markers in his blood for celiac and they said he could develop it someday. He had horribly loose bowels then but doesn't have those types of problems now. He does have some symptoms I wonder about, though. He's 6'2" 145lbs and when I see the...
  11. Hi In the past few months I have had a few instances when my face suddenly felt on fire. Once my entire body felt like it was burning. I did not think it was food related but now I'm questioning gluten, of course. I've been back on it for a week and today my face began to burn. Like, I look in the mirror and expect it to be red but it's not. Secondly...
  12. Interesting too that you all have left ear pain! I have the pain in both ear/upper eustachian tubes but since your responses, I've noticed it more in the left. lol I suppose allergies also have ear symptoms, I just would never have thought that this would be my most prominent reaction, besides bloating....oh, it's killing me. I'm thinking about taking...
  13. Thanks for your response. For now I am planning to eat gluten until the end of September then take the test. Then I will go gluten-free again, whatever the results. I felt so good being off it. Interesting about the ears! I would swear it's gluten-related for me. It's a totally new feeling for me that only began after I was gluten free for a couple...
  14. Hi I'm new here. I just came from the doctors (my endocrinologist, for low thyroid) and she is going to (blood) test me for celiac. I have experimented with the gluten-free diet on and off and am pretty positive I am at least gluten sensitive or intolerant. I'm excited that she's testing me but I have been gluten-free for 5 weeks. She says this doesn...
