  1. I think it should be mentioned to those who want cake at a gluten-free party that ice cream cakes are generally well received by children and adults. This way a cake and candles are presented to the Happy Birthday song, the child gets to blow out candles on a cake, and even attempt to slice the cake (It usually needs to be left out for an hour before cutting...
  2. I am not a doctor, but I do not think the results have anything to do with age. Is the doctor to whom you are referring a pedi GI? I do not know if that makes a difference, but maybe it does. I just do not see why two pedi GI's would have different information. This is why people get second opinions! I would think specialists would have the same, current...
  3. Yes, actually you are supposed to go along, or at least except without maligning the Church, with everything to be a good Catholic. That is the whole point! You seem to think of religion as a government that has elections, impeachments, etc. It is not! You are to accept the teaching of the religion. People become members of a particular religion because they...
  4. My daughter LOVES Philly Swirls! She also LOVES that "Gluten-free" is printed right on the box. We found these about one year ago and she has been eating them ever since.

  6. I just posted and then read what gapspan wrote. Because I never had a problem with the teaching on Communion I'd never thought about a Spiritual Communion. You are absolutely wonderful to suggest it! I also like what you wrote about people of other religions worrying about Catholics. They don't need to worry about us. Thanks!
  7. If you do not agree with the teachings of the Catholic Church then please go find a different religion to complain about!!! There are TWO species of communion available and one is gluten-free! My daughter made her First Communion three years ago and we have never once complained that she is not able to receive under both species. When we are on vacation,...
  8. My gluten-free daughter likes the following: bacon, mayo, tomato on toast grilled toast made w/ lots of butter bagel w/ lots of butter or cream cheese different cereals sausage premade muffins, donuts from health food store toast, sometimes w/ pb bacon, but you do not think it's a breakfast food-sorry! frozen hash browns waffles-the blueberry are...
  9. Often times, toddlers graze rather than eating complete meals. Eating 6 small meals per day is actually better than 3 large. My daughter was 4 in January and wears a size 2T. She is perfectly healthy though(her sister is the celiac). Because of rude comments about her size, I did question whether or not she was eating enough. When I really looked at her...
  10. I want you guys to know you are great. I did not know if anyone would care, but I thankfully I was wrong! I think what that website is doing is criminal. Thanks for caring.
  11. It really isn't a matter of making money because it is not like the site is trying to sell anything. This is what I think is weird. Do these people actually believe this or what? The site seems to push colonics as a cure-all for everything, even AIDS and cancer. It just seems so wrong to me that people can do this to other people.
  12. I just came across a website that disturbed me. It is curezone.com/dis/1.asp?CO=80 the site claims celiac disease can be cured by, among other things bowel cleansing, liver cleansing and dental cleanings! This seems unrealistic to me. If true wouldn't more people, especially a GI, know about this? I worry that someone could get hurt by following this and...
  13. I hope this helps. I have been told the biopsy is the "gold standard" in making a diagnosis of celiac disease. In fact it is the only way to truly diagnose it. Taking your son off gluten before doing the biopsy can cause a false negative result. If your son is a celiac you really should know positively. I do not know your situation but I think it would be...
  14. I have gotten the Wellshire Farms chicken nuggets in a few stores. If anyone does not know they were out of production for a while. They are now available. Anyway, I have gotten them at Whole Foods. The other stores are local and I live in Rhode Island. I do seem to find them in most health food stores though. Most stores will look in their books (order...
  15. I seem to have had a very different experience than the other posters. For me, it is much easier to spend the extra money on the prepared foods, rather than make everything myself. In some cases it is actually cheaper to buy prepared. I found that the foods I made were just getting stale too fast. I know that freezing can be a good option, but I found it...
  16. I do think it seems odd the parents in questioned sued, but the article was not clear about why. Was the earlier start time in relation to the suit? And what does that have to do with celiac disease anyway? I am fed up with my daughter's school, so I can see why some people would sue. My daughter was told to bring in her own food for consumer science class...
  17. I agree with celiac3270. When my daughter was diagnosed 6 years ago, her nutritionist suggested I get Against The Grain, and like a fool I did. I think Lowell is a moron. It seemed to me she is simply trying to break out on the comedy circuit (although she is NOT funny she thinks she is) rather than trying to put out any useful information that would actually...
  18. My 11 yr. old is a celiac, diagnosed 6 years ago. Her only physical complaint was stomach pain. She was, and still is very small for her age. My 4 year old is 27 pounds. She is smaller than her sister was at the same age. Howver, and I guess the point is, my youngest daughter has always been close to the fifth percentile in her weight. She is the classic...
