Yes I know I'm not supposed to cheat, but you know what they say....healthcare workers are the worst patients, lol. No, seriously, I've been having a hard time accepting that I have celiac disease. My doctor told me that my blood work was "suspicious" for Celiac, and told me to see a GI doc. My Antigliadin AB IGA was 27, but all the the other blood work...

I have been having frequent urination recently, so today I decided to do a urine dipstick on myself to see if I could have a urinary tract infection. I work in the medical field so I have access to various testing supplies. When I did the dipstick, it showed no blood or white blood cells, but I was very surprised to see that my urine glucose level was...

Oh gosh, that's horrible, you've been through so much! I'm glad things seem to be stable now. I hope it stays that way! Sheila

Mel, I hope you're feeling better today! If you don't mind my asking, I saw in your signature that you were misdiagnosed with endometriosis. How did they misdiagnose you? Didn't they do an abdominal lap? Did you have the total hysterectomy because of that? Sheila Maryland

In my quest for bread that doesn't taste like my shoe, I was reading about bread made from spelt. In a nutshell, I learned that spelt does contain gluten, but the protein is different than that of regular wheat gluten, and is easier to digest and can be tolerated by some Celiacs. So I went to Whole Foods and got some spelt bread, and a loaf of tapioca bread...

When my son was in high school and not driving yet, I had to drop him off at school every morning (About a 20 minute drive). Having the intestinal problems that I did, I knew where all the bathrooms were along the route. Well, this one particular day, the abdominal cramps hit me suddenly, but I was already on the beltway and nowhere near a bathroom...

I was so disappointed when I realized that BBQ Fritos have gluten in them. I have always loved them! But I found a good replacement - UtZ BBQ corn chips have no gluten in them. For some reason, UTZ BBQ corn chips aren't as easy to find, though. Sheila Maryland

Ugh do I feel horrible. I had to take off from work today, I feel so bad. All day yesterday, I was really, really tired, and could barely function at work. Last night I started to feel really bloated, and even more tired. I woke up in the middle of the night with sharp, stabbing pains in the pit of my stomach, and kept feeling like I was going to throw...

I am not a great cook either, it's just something that I never got deeply into. I don't have a clue how to use a bread maker, but I am considering getting one, since this disease is going to be with me forever. Are they hard to use? Any brands that you would recommend? Will the process be different since you have to use gluten-free flour? Thanks...

I've never heard of them, but I will definitely check them out. Thanks! Sheila

I haven't found a gluten-free bread that I like yet. I tried to make a hamburger the other day with Ener-G white rice bread, and it was so godawful, I had to spit it out. Gross, but true. I have had gluten-free spaghetti, it was okay, but kinda mushy. I tried gluten-free elbow macaroni, and it was terrible. I put it in my dog's dish, and even she wouldn...

I will definitely check them out. I miss my onion rolls! Thanks! Sheila

I'm going through this stage where I am having alot of trouble accepting the fact that I have Celiac and can't eat my favorite foods. Not to mention the fact that gluten-free foods taste horrible. I just read the ingredients on barbecued Fritos. It has wheat glutens in it. Do you know how much I love barbecued Fritos?? I used to make a ham sandwich...

That's really neat! I need this in real life, lol! Sheila

I just found out that I have an Advisory Board meeting on Thursday night at a restaurant. It's either going to be at the Olive Tree or Olive Garden, I can't remember which one (left the directions at work). My work requires that I be there, since I am the Program Coordinator for which the board is advising. We used to just have these meetings at work,...

ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed Stress
Sheely replied to Emme999's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It's not easy at all in the beginning, and I've freaked out a few times myself already. I had a positive IGA, cancelled my endoscopy, and went gluten-free a week ago. I think I've freaked about 4 times since then, lol. On Saturday night we went to my father's house for his birthday party. He told me he was making meatballs. I know my father doesn... -
Thanks, I'll have to stop by Giant and see what I can find. Sheila

I have Peanut Butter Panda Puffs! That's what I ate this morning with lactose free milk. They're good, but I'm not much of a cereal person in the morning. I guess I'll eat the Panda Puffs until I find something else. Thanks! Sheila

I would just like to find out what you all eat for breakfast. I seriously need to start on my gluten-free diet, and what I'm going to do is pick a day to start, and I'm not going to look back. But, being the organized person that I am, I need to get some ideas on what to eat. I'm a picky eater, I've always driven my mother crazy because I'm so picky. ...

ARCHIVED Going To Cancel My Endoscopy
Sheely replied to Sheely's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Beverly, Did your blood work come back positive? I'm sorry you had such a hard time with the sedatives, but I know what you mean. I'm the same way. I always get so sick and I have a hard time getting it out of my system. Best wishes, Sheila -

ARCHIVED Going To Cancel My Endoscopy
Sheely replied to Sheely's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have Chiari Malformation. I was sick for a very long time, and had about 7 MRIs before it was finally diagnosed. The docs kept thinking at first that I had MS, but each time the MRI would come up negative for MS. That's when they would start looking at me with a raised eyebrow, then start asking me if I was having marital or financial problems. One... -
ARCHIVED Going To Cancel My Endoscopy
Sheely posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I went and saw a GI doc this past Tuesday, who scheduled an endoscopy due to a positive IGA blood test (it was 27). He also wanted to do a colonscopy at the same time, due to the fact that I have endometriosis. I had a hysterectomy a year ago, but he thinks it may have infilttrated my bowel. I have been stressing so badly about these tests. I don... -
ARCHIVED Seeing Gi Tomorrow
Sheely replied to Sheely's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thanks for your comforting advice, it's nice to hear from someone who's been there. Well I went to see the GI today, and he scheduled an endoscopy and a colonoscopy. He said that it's possible that I have Celiac, but he also threw irritable bowel in there too. I doubt very much that it's IBS. I would have thought that he would do further blood work, but... -
ARCHIVED Clairol Herbal Essence Shampoo
Sheely replied to Sheely's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I checked the ingredients, and I don't see wheat listed on there. Of course, most of the words are a mile long and contain every letter of the alphabet. Thanks! Sheila
