ARCHIVED Please Help - Glutening
Juanitahoy replied to GFreeMO's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Although I have not monitored it, I also get really cold when I am glutened. I also have an autoimmune condition (or two...). I have fibromyalgia and have been suffering from autoimmune hives since early December. Interesting... Next time I am unfortunate enough to be glutened I will take my temp. I hope you feel better soon. So tired of "just take... -
ARCHIVED Not Sure What To Do.
Juanitahoy replied to Juanitahoy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You guys are awesome! Thank you all for the great advice and humor! I loved it all! I've been ok actually. A lot better than I expected. Not sure what curbed the effects, but I definitely wasn't slammed as hard as I expected with a reaction. Of course things are a little "off", but I guess I'm sort of used to that. How interesting about the l-glutamine... -
ARCHIVED Having A Hard Time..
Juanitahoy replied to Lalasarah2727's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have been gluten-free for around 18 months, and it is now to the point where I don't think about it 100% of the time anymore. I have gotten in a decent routine, and am pretty comfortable with it. That being said, I was glutened today with an amount larger than ever before and got scared and felt really alone. It was awful. I had gotten away from... -
ARCHIVED Not Sure What To Do.
Juanitahoy replied to Juanitahoy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks so much! They were a goldfish type cracker. I am usually so good about checking labels and things, but they were in a boxed lunch type thing, and I thought the outside of the box said it was gluten free. It turns out a different "flavor" lunch was the gluten free one, and only some items in this one were gluten-free. Oh well... The most frustrating... -
I was led to believe some crackers were gluten free, and did not find out until after I ate the entire snack sized bag that this was not true. Three weeks ago I had one piece of elbow pasta, without knowing, and it produced a week of GI symptoms and a rash on my face that I still haven't gotten rid of. I tried to vomit unsuccessfully, and am now having...

ARCHIVED Bokashi Composting For Use In Garden
Juanitahoy replied to Juanitahoy's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I will keep you up to date. I also have just read that you can buy the microorganisms seperately and add them to your own medium which often times is wheat bran, but you can also use sawdust, or rice hulls. Not sure where I would get these things, but might be worth looking into in the future. I am sure it would end up being cheaper too! -
ARCHIVED Bokashi Composting For Use In Garden
Juanitahoy replied to Juanitahoy's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
That is exactally what I was thinking, but thought I'd see if anyone else had some insight into it. I figure that the compost process will break down the wheat as well as everything else, so it shouldn't be an issue as long as I am careful handling it. My laundry room is right off of my kitchen, and seems like the perfect place for this sort of thing. ... -
ARCHIVED Bokashi Composting For Use In Garden
Juanitahoy posted a topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Ok, so first I apologize if this has too much to do with being gluten-free for this area of the forum, but I wasn't sure where would be most appropriate. I am looking to start a bokashi composting system in my kitchen for fertilizing my garden. The composter is ordered, and I can't wait for it to be delivered. Unfortunately I just realized that the anaerobic... -
ARCHIVED Endoscopy Yesterday!
Juanitahoy replied to Juanitahoy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
So, day 3 gluten free.. and I swear I feel lighter. Not like I've lost weight, just not as foggy and heavy. Pathology results came in today- negative. I don't care, I'm going to continue gluten free. I have to admit I'm a little disappointed at the results, but even the gastroenterologist said that it was possible for me to be negative for celiac but... -
ARCHIVED Endoscopy Yesterday!
Juanitahoy posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
...Waiting for the results. The doc said that he didn't see any clear evidence of Celiac, but we will see what the pathology results look like. Interesting that they also found a medium sized hiatal hernia. I'm now on day 2 gluten-free and intend on staying that way regardless of the pathology results. =) -
ARCHIVED Biopsy Results-Celiac &/or Lymphoma
Juanitahoy replied to cmckay's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
What is it about the report that makes you think that it's already progressed to Lymphoma? I have yet to have my biopsy, but I am a medical professional (not a doctor). I am used to reading reports, and based on the overall diagnosis listed, it sounds like inflammed bowel with signs of celiac to me. "Lymphocytic enteritis" is an inflammation of the... -
ARCHIVED How Do I Manage This Rash Until I Can Go Gluten Free?
Juanitahoy replied to Juanitahoy's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Thank you everyone for your support. I have started using the proactive refining lotion only since the whole line is too harsh for my skin. I have also started using hydrocortisone lotion a few times a day. It already looks better, and is definately alot easier to put up with. I also realized that most lotions and cosmetics have the ingrediants... -
ARCHIVED How Do I Manage This Rash Until I Can Go Gluten Free?
Juanitahoy posted a topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I am currently undergoing testing for Celiac, and have a endoscopy/biopsy scheduled in 12 days. I have continued to eat gluten, and have been making a point to eat some at each meal. For the last 3 months, my face has been breaking out (only on the right side) and I assumed it was acne even though I haven't had a breakout like this in years (I am 3... -
ARCHIVED What Now? A Little Frustrated...
Juanitahoy replied to Juanitahoy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
So the big day is tomorrow! I am finally going to see the Gastroenterologist. Any advice? Should I prepare a list of symptoms? Any questions I should be sure to ask? I'm not sure what to expect, but I'm excited to get this over with! =) -
ARCHIVED What Now? A Little Frustrated...
Juanitahoy replied to Juanitahoy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
That much I do know.. but thanks anyway nora_n! I was on it about a year ago for a few months and it stopped working, so they took me off of it, but now they want to try again. It's a bigger dose this time, and although I am good about taking it every night, the fatigue doesn't seem to be going away like it did before. It's been about a month... -
ARCHIVED What Now? A Little Frustrated...
Juanitahoy replied to Juanitahoy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thanks Sonja, I will probably cut out dairy as well when I cut out gluten at least for the first little while. Right now I'm trying to eat LOTS of gluten so that I'm over prepared for the testing. I want my body to be reacting as much as possible when I go to the doctor next week. I am actually amazed how much of a difference it has made to purposely... -

Juanitahoy replied to Juanitahoy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yeah... I think I should buy stock in gas-x! Thanks for pointing out water, I definately haven't been drinking enough (which is unusual for me). After this experiance, I am definately going gluten-free after the testing ordeal is all done. I don't care if it is negative... Anyone have any experiance with amytriptoline? I am on that for my fibromyalgia... -
ARCHIVED What Now? A Little Frustrated...
Juanitahoy replied to Juanitahoy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Any ideas how to relieve this feeling of fullness in my stomach? I feel like I have swallowed a balloon. I am trying not to take too many meds to help my symptoms because I want to be as reactive as possible when I see the gastroenterologist next week. I'm thinking peppermint tea? Feeling yucky, but fingers crossed that this will lead to an answer!... -

Update- So I have an appointment with Gastroenterology in two weeks! I'm very excited that they were able to see me sooner rather than later, because there is a 4-6 week wait for an appointment, but they were able to squeeze me in sooner. In the mean time, for the last week I have been eating as much gluten as I can find, and I'm MISERABLE! I have... -
ARCHIVED Gallbladder Problems
Juanitahoy replied to Joe0123's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The ultrasound can really only tell if there is something structurally wrong. It sees anatomy, not how something is functioning. I think that's why they did the HIDA scan. I hope your doctors can have some more specific information for you. From what you have discribed from the ultrasound though, if it was me, I wouldn't be worried. -
ARCHIVED Gallbladder Problems
Juanitahoy replied to Joe0123's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am an ultrasound tech. As was mentioned earlier, ultrasound is very good at looking at the structure of the gallbladder, but doesn't indicate how well it is working. A polyp is a small growth, similar to a skin tag, that forms on the inside wall of the gallbladder. This is a relitavely common finding, and not one to be worried about, or that would impact... -

Thanks so much everyone for the information and support. Although being celiac isn't easy, I think it would be easier than dealing with these symptoms and the meds (and all their side effects). I just recieved an e-mail from my rhumatologist and although he isnt' willing to do any more testing, he is willing to send me to see a GI specialist if I would... -

One other tidbit- One of the only treatments that has worked for me is trans dermal magnesium supplementation, so I guess my magnesium is low too. I guess there is no real way to test overall magnesium levels because it is stored in muscle as well as blood. Thanks again everone! -

Hi Everyone, Thank you for taking the time to read my post. I had gotten my hopes up that maybe Celiac was the answer for me, but my TTG ab IGA came back negative (0.37 of a 0-15 range) They did not run my IGG, but it was run last year and was also negative. My rhumatologist stated that while he would run the blood test, he only felt it was necessary...
