  1. This may be totally stupid, but I want to ask anyway. I got allergy shots for 10 straight years as an adult. They were mainly for pollen and environmental allergens like dust mites. I never had allergy treatment for food, although I have always been allergic to melons and fresh cherries (lips and throat itched). Do allergy shots wind up changing your...
  2. It's interesting that you would say that L-Glutamine would cause depression, when it is a pre-cursor to Seritonin. So in theory, it should help depression, not cause it. Yes, I do have a tendency towards depression. High EPA Fish oil has helped me a lot in that regard. It's hard for me to totally judge my mood right now, because last week I learned that...
  3. My Naturopath wants me to take L-Glutamine between meals to help repair my gut. But I have read that the body converts L-Glutamine into Glutamate, and that you shouldn't take L-Glutamine if you have a reaction to MSG. I know that MSG gives me a headache and makes me feel drowsy and awful. I don't know whether this information about L-Glutamine is correct...
  4. Thank you for the reply. I still have a headache today but am not dizzy. It almost feels like a bad sinus headache, but my sinuses are not stuffed up. My face just really hurts and my ears are ringing more loudly than usual. I have also been dealing with a bit of brain fog, finding it hard to think straight. The more I think about it, the more I am...
  5. I have been gluten-free for 2.5 months and dairy-free for 1 month. I have not done a food challenge yet since going gluten-free and DF, so I don't know what "being glutened" might feel like. As far as I know, I don't have Celiac, but I definitely am gluten-sensitive. Wondering whether I experienced my first time "being glutened." Last night, we had Ethopian...
  6. I was FINALLY able to get through to Pur Minerals. They said that none of their products contain gluten but they share production lines with other companies and cannot totally guarantee, yada yada. However, when looking at their lip pencil, one of the ingredients was hydrolyzed wheat protein, so they were wrong about NONE of their products containing gluten...
  7. Does anyone here use Pur Minerals lipsticks? There seem to be no gluten ingredients in the lipsticks, from reading the ingredient list. I am trying to get in touch with them but am having a very hard time. Nobody ever answers their phone and they are not returning my voicemails. Their gloss says Gluten Free on their website. But that claim is not made...
  8. I figured that someone on this message board may have posted it previously, but wasn't sure!
  9. I stumbled across this video today. I don't know if it has been posted here before, but it is so tongue-in-cheek, I wanted to tell you guys about it. I think it's terrific that the woman in the video is the owner of the company (whose entire family has Celiac). She should put a link to this video on her website, IMO:
  10. I use Philosophy's Purity Made Simple face wash. I wrote to the company to ask about gluten in their products and this is what they sent me: thank you for contacting Philosophy! we are including our full list of gluten free products below: purity made simple hope in a jar microdelivery peel booster caps microdelivery exfoliating face wash shelter...
  11. Does anyone here use Trader Joe's rice milk successfully? Do you know whether it is made by the same company that makes Rice Dream? (Private label foods are often made by big manufacturers and just re-packaged under other names). The reason I ask is that there was a thread on this message board about Rice Dream not really being gluten-free, even though...
  12. Thanks to everyone for posting this information. I think that if everyone who reacts to their "gluten free" product wrote to them and copied the FDA, they might change the wording on their packaging. It is just plain EVIL to not disclose allergen ingredients on a label. I hope they get sued and it teaches them a lesson.
  13. The continuing saga of gluten-free lipsticks... I got my Ecco Bella lipsticks today. The color Napa Grape is very close to Bamboo Pink. However, I find the lipstick to feel very heavy and chalky on my lips, not nice and light the way the Clinque lipstick was. Also, it is very very matte, so I have to put some gloss over it, or it looks chalky. I also got...
  14. Every so often (before going gluten-free) I would make Manischewitz Potato Kugel as a side dish for dinner. Now that I'm gluten-free, I'm not sure whether I can eat this product anymore! None of the ingredients are gluten, yet the packaging does not say Gluten Free, and this product is not on their Gluten Free list on their website. So I wrote to then...
  15. I am probably going on a trip with my family to southern France and Barcelona in a little more than a month, so I'm still fairly new at this. You guys have told me, in a different thread, that I shouldn't be too worried about eating out in Europe. I barely eat out here at home anymore since going gluten-free (which is awful because I'm a bit of a "foodie...
  16. Well, I bought some colors of gluten-free lipstick from Ecco Bella online. When they get here, I will let you ladies know which one seems to be equivalent to Bamboo Pink by Clinique. There are also some colors by Afterglow that look equivalent, but their lipsticks cost twice as much as Ecco Bella's. I might buy one or two eventually to see how they compare...
  17. This is an update, February 13, 2011. I called Abbott Labs today. This is the information I got: Abbott Labs (1-800-633-9110). They told me that they do not put any gluten ingredients or gluten derivatives in any strengths of Synthroid. They gave me the usual line of not being able to guarantee that their suppliers don't have them in the raw ingredients...
  18. Thank you, that was very helpful!!!
  19. Maybe taking L-Glutamine would help it get out of your system faster? I haven't taken it myself, but have heard others say that it works for accidental "glutening." I agree that none of the ingredients seemed suspicious. If fact, I bought the liqui-gels because (being new to this and not knowing) I ASSUMED that the liquid filled ones would have a smaller...
  20. If you call Pfizer and tell them about this, they will send you coupons for free Advil. Like I said, the regular brownish red tablets and caplets are gluten-free. But the blue gel-filled Liqui-Gels are not. I told them that their bottle should say "contains wheat ingredients" or "contains a wheat derriviative." The consumer person I spoke to said...
  21. I just called the company and they said that the tablets, brown gel caps and original caplets do NOT contain gluten. But the blue liqui-gels DO. They said that the wheat-sourced gluten product is "polysorb." (Polysorbate?) That's all the information they could give me. They said that their tablet products are safe, but their liquid-filled products...
  22. I AM SO ANGRY!!!! I take Advil Liqui-gels all the time for body aches. I have been gluten-free for one month. Today I thought that I should make sure that none of my medications contain gluten. And I come to find out that the one I take the most is not good for me: From: Open Original Shared Link Q: I am allergic to gluten. Is it all right for me...
  23. Every so often, the cuticles of both thumbs (at the bottom corners) get irritated and start peeling off. Could this be a gluten reaction? It seems rather mysterious to me. I don't get manicures (I do my own nails). I never use ANY nail polish or put on fake nails or anything....my nails are totally natural. All I ever do is file and smooth them ever week...
  24. I've been using Clinique Long Lasting Lipstick in Bamboo Pink for many years. It's a great color for me. But I just found out it has gluten in it!! The last time I wore it, I noticed that it made my lips a bit chapped. So I think I was reacting to it and should stop using it Does anyone else wear that color, and have you found a good substitute for...
  25. Got the gene test results today from Entero Lab. Wow, am I glad I got this done! I have one genetic marker for Celiac and one genetic marker for gluten sensitivity. They told me that this means that it is strongly suggested that I avoid gluten. Also, my kids will have inherited at least one of those genetic markers, but there is now way of knowing which one...
