  1. I have been taking digestive enzymes for years, even before I was diagnosed. The best ones that I have taken are from my chiropractor. They are Loomis enzymes that were developed by Dr. Loomis. They can only be purchased from doctors, chiropractor's, etc., who have attended the courses and have decided to carry the items.

They have helped me a great deal. I tried several others before finding what worked for me.

It seems that your body is not being helped by these particular ones that you have purchased. I hope that you are able to find something that will bring you relief. Starting out with lower doses may also help.

  2. Having recently diagnosed with gluten sensitivity, I began a gluten free diet 9 days ago. I have been a vegetarian for 30 years and a vegan for 7. New diet does pose somewhat of a challenge and I find that looking for baked products is difficult. So many of the products have white rice flour, potato flour, tapioca starch and other things that I have not eaten in years due to eating mostly whole grain, organic items.

Veggies and protein (soy, beans) are not much of a problem when cooking at home. I eat plently of beans and love veggies. The large problem seems to be with the baked goods. Does anyone know of any seemingly more healthy products. Since I am very new to this, I am quite sure that I simply don't know where to look.

Also what about vinegar in things. I use brown rice vinegar at home, but not sure what type of vinegar is used when we are out.

I am sure that I will have many, many questions in the coming weeks, months. Thank you for help.

  3. Thanks for all the info. I now have more understanding of the disease. I will continue to read and research.

The diet is difficult but managable at home. Don't know if family members had it, but Mom, Dad and my brother all had hypothyroid. My Mom died at 80, heart attack, Dad at 94, hit by a car, and my brother is 70 and still alive.

My husband and I have talked about taking a cooler (since we will be driving) when we go on vacation this year. That will help with breakfast. Restaurants are readily available and I am sure that I will be able to work this out.

Stomach is a little less noisy since I've stopped the gluten, but I am quite sure that it will take a good amount of time to feel other changes.

In about 3 months I will do another thyroid antibodies and see if the numbers have come down.

  4. Hi:

Still trying to process the last blood test I had done. Seems I am positive on Antigliadin IgA and t-Transblutaminase (tTg) Iga, but negative on Antigliadin, IgG, Reticulin Iga Ab and Reticulin IgG Ab.

I have Hashi's thyroid (since '99) with antithyroid antibodies over 500, IBS-D since the early '60's. I have already begun the gluten free diet. I will not go for the biopsy. I am a 30 year vegatarian and 7 years vegan. I also tested last year and found food allergies for soy, corn, corn gluten, sugar, broccoli, kale, osyter. Have put some back into my diet after being off of these for over 6 months

I guess my question is...........what is the difference, if any, between sensitivity and all out celiac disease. I know the treatment is the same.....diet. But what happens if you have some gluten? I ask because we will be traveling in October and I am not sure if I will be able to find something for breakfast. Because of so many limitations with my diet, just wondered if I eat one or two breakfasts with gluten, how far back that might put me.

Thanks for any feedback and suggestions.

  5. Bean:

Cannot thank you enough for your research and information on L-glutamine. I began taking it about 3 years ago for my IBS-D which I have had since the early '60's. Sometimes I go for years without any problems, but stress seems to play a very big role.

I recently had bloodwork done to see if I had any sensitivity to gluten/wheat and the results came back with elavated levels. Doctor is going to repeat the tests on Friday and add, I believe, another one and see what happens.

I began to have questions about the safety of taking the l-glutamine and am glad that I was able to find the information that you researched so diligently. I am hoping that because I have taken it for some amount of time, that it is already helping if it turns out I have celiac. I have used the Vitamin Shoppe brand for years. Is there any way to find out if this brand is okay? I use the powder form and take 1/2 tsp in the morning. That amounts to over 2 grams.

I am a vegetarian for 30 years and a vegan for 7, also have a soy allergy, so this will be very interesting to see what I am able to eat.

Again, thank you for the information.

  6. Thank you for all of your responses. I do understand the difficulty, especially being vegan.

I have become aware of some of my options, just makes it a little more of a challenge when I travel and when we go out to dinner, etc.

I will miss "real" pasta and those good Italian desserts.

    Thanks,

  7. Hi:

New to this board and this problem. Have been on the IBS board for years. Have had IBS for over 40 years and just recently diagnosed with celiac (though we will be doing another blood test next week).

Little difficult as my diet is already restricted. I am a vegetarian for 30 years and a vegan for 6 years. I also did a food allergy test last year and tested positive for soy, broccoli, cane sugar, and some other foods. Will retest later this year as insurance does not cover and it is an expense.

One of my questions is that I read somewhere that you cannot have mustard or ketchup and was not sure if this is correct.

I'm quite sure as time goes by that I will have many, many more questions, but right now, just trying to look at this as another food challenge and move forward. My husband is Italian, so the semolina pasta will be very difficult to give up. We eat out frequently, so another challenge.

Thanks for listening and please let me know about the mustard and ketchup.
