ARCHIVED Gluten, Nut And Sesame Free Beauty Products
amahones posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've been gluten-free for a few months. I've noticed that my eczema hasn't really improved much - if anything, it's gotten worse in some areas. I've been using gluten-free products that come in contact with my hands and mouth (like hand cream, chapstick, etc.) but haven't paid a huge amount of attention to body wash, shampoo, conditioner or other hair products... -
ARCHIVED Chronic Sinusitis
amahones replied to Trtnop's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I've had chronic sinusitis due to seasonal, food, and environmental allergies. I've also had two sinus surgeries (but they were five years apart). I've heard of people whose sinuses and allergies improve on the gluten free diet, but so far I've noticed no difference. I've i've been gluten free for a little over two months though, and this time of year is... -

also, what you posted is only the active ingredient. It has inactive ingredients not listed on their website which I have at home on the box. -
ARCHIVED CVS Dye-Free Allergy Gelcaps (Generic Benadryl)
amahones replied to amahones's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
That's what I've done - I have no problem paying extra I was just wondering if it was gluten that was causing the problems I was having, or something else and thought someone here might know since CVS themselves apparently do not. -
ARCHIVED CVS Dye-Free Allergy Gelcaps (Generic Benadryl)
amahones replied to amahones's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Great question. Of course I don't have it on me, but when I get home, I will post them. I should have realized that would be helpful -
Did you have more energy? No, actually. Less. Did you lose/gain weight? I've stayed mostly consistent, if anything lost a couple pounds. Mostly, I FEEL like I lost weight because I don't have constant bloating and constipation anymore! Healthier skin/hair No. More regular bowel movements YES!!!! It has virtually eliminated bloating and stomach pain...

ARCHIVED CVS Dye-Free Allergy Gelcaps (Generic Benadryl)
amahones posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have been trying to get in touch with CVS about whether Open Original Shared Link is gluten-free. They've been going back and forth through me with email, but this has been going on for four weeks, and they've still yet to give me a straight answer. I used to take it all the time before going gluten-free, but since going gluten-free, whenever I take... -
ARCHIVED Is This What Getting "glutened" Feels Like?
amahones replied to amahones's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'll avoid plastic from now on. We do have a cutting board but I don't use it anymore (and to be honest, I don't think anything except vegetables were ever cut on there). I doubt the dishwasher has ever been cleaned -

Hmm...mostly plastic, except for silverware. -

I don't actually use the strainer either. For example - my boyfriend will cook pasta in a pot. It will then go into a dishwasher and then I'll use it to make my own chili or something. It's not one of those non-stick pots either, that gets scratched easily. It's stainless steel. I haven't been using any of the ones that scratch because I'm nervous about... -
ARCHIVED Is This What Getting "glutened" Feels Like?
amahones replied to amahones's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I do tend to avoid processed foods in general, even before going gluten free.. Rice chex (generic or brand) have been the one exception. I'll cut them out for now, and I'm going to avoid restaurants completely for a while. I don't even use a toaster! (But I do use the same pots that regular pasta has been boiled in. I'm not sure if that could be an issue... -

I have only stopped consuming gluten a little over a month ago. Is it too soon to tell when you've accidentally consumed gluten? I have been very diligent about my own foods, medications, beauty products, etc. I do eat generic rice chex - and I've read that some people have problems with Rice Chex in general. This weekend, I bought the real Rice... -
ARCHIVED Celiac With Additional Food Allergies
amahones replied to Iris court's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I really sympathize with you. I also have multiple food allergies (but have had them almost my entire life): shellfish, peanuts, most tree nuts and sesame. If you have a true allergy to those foods, it's super important that you avoid them as each time you consume them, your allergic reaction could get progressively worse and could ultimately result in... -
ARCHIVED Intestinal Pain Radiating/referred Pain To Back Pain?
amahones replied to ChristianGrey's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I often get back pain when I have bad stomach pain. I don't really know why, but it does happen. -
One of Benadryl's side effects is sleepiness and because of that, it's the active ingredient in most OTC sleep-aids, and in the "night-time" version of many OTC drugs (I think Zzzquil, Advil PM and others). I find with Benadryl that I am very groggy in the morning but that probably isn't a big concern if you're not sleeping at all. I've had reasonable...

ARCHIVED Anyone Recover From Chronic Insomnia After Going gluten-free?
amahones replied to carrieanna76's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I have had insomnia and vivid dreams and nightmares my entire life. I've only been gluten-free for about a month now and this is actually the biggest change I've noticed... I now sleep through the night, even without taking medication. If I do wake up, I fall back asleep quickly, and I no longer remember my dreams. -
ARCHIVED Gluten-Free Multi-Vitamin With Iron
amahones posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Does anyone have a brand recommendation for a gluten-free multi-vitamin WITH iron? Preferably one of the smaller, easy-to-swallow ones, or chewables. If you don't know one that includes iron, I'll take recommendations for ones without, since my regular iron supplement is gluten-free. Thanks! -
ARCHIVED Frustrated With My Diet That's Not Working
amahones replied to Bexxa's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I don't have any advice on what's causing the symptoms and without knowing your history, have you had your thyroid checked? For symptoms as severe as you describe, especially the suicidal thoughts/urges, I'd recommend getting yourself to a doctor ASAP. -
ARCHIVED Generic Singulair
amahones replied to amahones's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Okay I finally got a call back from the manufacturer. This is ONLY the answer for the version manufactured by Teva USA. The customer service rep said the starch in it is corn starch and it is gluten-free. -

amahones replied to amahones's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Wow, anaphylactic to gluten - very scary! Do you know which brand manufactures his? I just tried contacting Teva again, to find out for sure but had to leave a voicemail again. -
ARCHIVED Positive Blood Test, Negative Biopsy - So Confused
amahones replied to amahones's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thanks, Cara. From what I've read, there is a huge variance in how long it takes for symptoms to get better, so I will definitely give it a try for at least 3 months and get re-tested. How long did it take for you to notice improvement after going gluten-free? -
ARCHIVED Positive Blood Test, Negative Biopsy - So Confused
amahones replied to amahones's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Oh, thanks! Sorry - I didn't realize that was for comments too I'll figure this all out eventually! -
ARCHIVED Positive Blood Test, Negative Biopsy - So Confused
amahones replied to amahones's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I thought I already responded to you, but it doesn't show up for some reason! In any case, thank you for your response and for pointing out that the link did not work. I edited the original entry to include my blood work results, rather than having the link. I have only been gluten-free for a week and a half and I've been very diligent in checking... -
ARCHIVED How To Be Sure?
amahones replied to sapereaude's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I would ask for a copy of the results once you get them. It took me almost a week to receive the Celiac panel results from my GI doctor, and just a few days to get the result for a single test from my PCP. I have had a lot of the symptoms you've had and sometimes, like you, my anemia is debilitating for some reason. I think a lot of the symptoms in...
