Yes, the doctor ruled it out based on the ttg. He said the gliadin test isn't very reliable. My son's total IGA was normal, so he is not IGA deficient. The doc said we don't have to test further because the ttg was negative. From everthing I have read, I'm wondering if I should ask for and endoscopy. Has anyone else had conflicting results like that?

My 11 year old son with history of mild to sometimes moderate stomach aches, off and on for about a year now, had deamidated gliadin iga level of 67 (>20 positive). Was sent to GI doc and he drew ttg iga which was negative. He ruled out Celiac. Why is one test positive and the next negative? Where do I go from here? Thank you!!

Thanks so much for the information. I am going to talk to the GI doc at more length about early stage celiac when we see him in November. I just think something must be going on if his gliadin IGA is high. Thanks again!!

Little background. My son, 11 years old, complain of stomach aches off and on since about beginning of year. Went to pediatrician and she ordered deamidated gliadin peptide IGA result 67 (<20). Referred to GI doc. Ordered total IGA which came back 184 (64-246) and TTG which came back <1. Didn't tell me range for that but can't get much lower than ...

Thanks for your replies. He did not order any nutrient tests and he didnt offer any explanation to the high result if it isn't celiac. He pretty much blew off that he thought it could be celiac, but he said we needed to "contend" with the high DGP. He did very briefly mention that if the tTG comes back negative, he may do a biopsy, but he said it so quickly...

An update from last week. My 11 year old son, complaining of stomach aches for several months, to most of the year went to pediatrition last week. The only celiac test she did was Gliadin IGA antibody (deamidated peptide) with the result of 67 (<20). Got in to see GI today and he said this test is not reliable unless it is drawn with the tissue transglutiminase...

Thank you so much for the information. I think that's a great idea to have those tests done prior to seeing the GI doc. And you are also correct about the endo biopsy, it would be nice to see if there is any damage yet. His stomach aches have been going on several months, probably about most of this year off and on. He is not doubled over in pain or anything...

Thank you for the information. I have not tried removing gluten from his diet yet as I am trying to do some reading and research. I am a little hesitent to start a gluten free diet in case the GI doc wants to run more tests. Thanks again!! This is alot of work, doesn't seem to be very simple diagnosis.
