  3. Welcome to the forum I have been gluten free since October and it is hard to adapt too. I have been eating my whole foods and veggies with dinner and have been trying different kinds of rice. Luckily I eat an egg white & cheese omelette for breakfast everyday so I didn't really have to give up much for breakfast food (like bagels, toast, waffles.....
  4. Just the other night we got chinese food.. I order from a healthier restaurant that has an entire gluten free menu and my husband orders from a regular place getting all his favorite appetizers - including my all time fav crab rangoons.. at my restaurant I can't have any appetizers there, just meals and the rice options.. so we sit across the table from...
  5. I usually eat them every day at work for a snack.. and I recently bought some honey roasted walgreens mixed nuts and thought nothing of checking the ingredients (still adjusting!) I just figured.. they are nuts.. and then when I read the label it said "processed in a facility that also contains ... listed every kind of nut and then also listed soy, milk and...

  8. Thanks for everyones responses! I know most people have good intentions and my body feels so much better which I just need to keep reminding myself. I think the hardest part is feeling so different than everyone else around you.. everytime I even put my hand in a box of cheerios to give to my daughters I feel like I need to clean my hands! Hearing your stories...
  9. Thank you so much! This site is so helpful and it is great to be able to come here for info and support.. I spent so long being sick with no one who could really understand what I was going through and now I have a cure - while amazing - is also a (whole new) challenge!
  10. I have been eating gluten free since 10/2012 and feeling better.. (I have had some slip ups that have made me very sick - especially over the holidays since that was a completely new experience). I have been loving the feeling of eating and knowing I won't get sick. I have read a new book which gave me SO much information on how to read ingredient labels...
  11. Thanks. The only other tests I am waiting on are the HLA-DQ2 & HLA-DQ8 so I doubt they ran a DGP IgG.. I had them run those 2 genes because I thought that if it shows up that I don't have them then it would be unlikely that I have celiac disease (is what I was thinking). Right? Then I would think I may be leaning more in the direction that I have...
  12. Hi Everyone, I have gotten part of my results for a blood test I had my doctor run and I am totally confused... The woman who is my doctor's assistant right now is not very helpful in explaining what the results mean.. She gave me the result of my Immunoglobulin A resut and said it was 78 and normal is between 82-453. I asked her what that means and...
  13. Hi, I am new to this and have been reading what ingredients NOT to eat however I am confused when it comes to Maltitol for example in chewing gum. Is this safe? If I understand correctly I should not having malt products.. is this one of them? Thanks!
  14. Thank you - this is helpful!
  15. Oh.. I had a feeling it may have been a bad idea at the time but I thought as long as I didn't eat any of the crust. It was not gluten free, it was a "Tombstone" pizza brand. Lesson learned!
  16. Thanks Lisa I went to the doctor yesterday and got my blood drawn for HLA-DQ2, HLA-DQ8, Celiac panel (which I am hoping includes what you have listed) and the HLA-B27 (since I was already getting everything else done). I am not sure how long it will take to get the results back. I honestly felt like I had to be very pushy to get these tests done, the doctor...
  17. How many days do you think I would need to eat gluten before getting my blood tested?
  18. Thank you for responding. I am going to call my doctor to request to have some testing done. Hopefully I can some tests done. Does anyone know much about the gene HLA-B27? My father has a positive one and in the paperwork his doctor had given him a few years ago he had highlighted a section on Celiac Disease, which is also part of the reason I had suspected...
  19. Hi I have been having ongoing stomache pains for years. This year in January I was tested for gallstones, which I had none. So I went about my life and still dealt with the pain. Then after tiring of the constant pain I contacted my Dr. and she scheduled me for a HIDA scan (for my gallbladder) which, yes my gallbladder was an issue. They removed it and...
